I was talking to a lad today who told me the older CRTs are superior to modern flat screens. He says the response time is zero and the colors are more vibrant. Is this true? If so why is nobody using them anymore? Anybody here still using an old school CRT monitor?

Almost any decent modern display has an absolutely negligible amount of processing latency (100µs range), and QFT video modes allow modern displays to beat CRTs at equal refresh rate by eliminating the scanout delay (but since literally nobody in /g/ except CRT nerds has ever heard of QFT; none you are using it).Though I wonder how the instant 10k lumen flash vs slow fade-in affects our biochemical response times.

I would love to use a CRT again. One of the high-end high-res high-refresh units. I am holding out for a premium unit at a reasonable price.

I used to be an SE working in the corporate environment and I’ve installed a lot of 21” monitors over the years FOR OTHER PEOPLE. I remember when Sony monitors of this size, but with poorer performance, cost $3,000. Yeah ok, I’m an old guy. On that point…if you wear reading glasses, you can crank the res back to 1024 x 768 and take you glasses off. I usually run it at 1152 x 870 for PhotoShop and Illustrator, however. The tube even looks great at 1280 x 1024 but you want to make sure that your video card can manage at least an 85 Hz refresh rate. I know it will manage even higher resolution, but the icons become too small for my taste. At all resolutions the text is crisp; and the colors really pop. Remember, this is you window into all of your work and the Internet. The screen is where your mind interfaces with the machine. In my opinion, if you buy this monitor, you will be a very happy user. I continue to love it day after day. Maybe it was a fluke, but newegg had it to me in 5 days using standard shipping

I started looking for a CRT in 2019 and it took a whole year before I obtained my first 21"-class CRT, and that was by checking local marketplaces and classifieds several times every day for that whole year. And this in EU where such monitors are much more abundant than in the US. You don't seem like someone with the patience to even read this post, let alone commit to scouring through listings for a CRT the next couple years. Start with some random piece of shit you can get free-to-$20 locally. That's what I initially had too.
