Business people misunderstand the nature of software/tech productivity. They think it's like everything else they've been taught, a product, factory work, measured in gross output, lines of code, etc. This incorrect assumption naturally segues into the next mistake: if I can hire these guys to pump out the same "output" (gross amount of code), for 1/3 of the price, why not? And from there it's a feedback loop as everything degrades and enshittifies.Early stage tech companies understand the artisanal nature of the work but after the money comes in, it balloons, and swells with business folk who need to prove their own "value", they start looking at the engineering side to corrupt.
