>use AI to generate amazing new thing / company / product / program / movie etc.
>can't actually copyright it in the USA
XD

Why do you want to copyright it when anyone can gen exactly the same?
Only when you make your own model with your own training data you would be entitled to every creation, that what disney is doing.

Only pure AI output is public domain. If there’s human involvement then it’s your work and can be copyrighted. Otherwise the use of any tool would render your project public property.
Prompts are also copyrighted.

This isn't how it works though, not from what I understand.

If I prompt an image and I re-draw it then its mine to copyright, because I drew it. Of course while the end result doesn't overlap with someone else copyright.
Smart people use ai to prototype character sheets, animations, styles, etc and just redraw the relevant characters and background so they count as yours.

>AI generated slop for profit
Lame, and Indian-coded. Just make your own smut like a normal person. Average consumer doesn't want AI in their shit.

Lately I've been thinking about how copyright is just government NFTs, but we're encouraged to think these are good, instead of just as stupid as the crypto ones

Seems it’s being refined in court right now

You're just talking by analogy, the courts haven't weighed in super extensively on AI yet, that one case with the authors reached a settlement, not a verdict.
