why did "they" completely kill hobbies like overclocking and PC building? what's the endgame here?
>>109766822Neither of those were ever valid hobbies.
Emily Youcis made some based online cartoon making fun of trump and jews, so jews decided the goyim can't have nice computers anymore, so they jacked up the prices of everything and used "AI bubble" as an excuse to do so.they will then get the goyim to use hardware terminals to use cloud computing where everything will be monitored
cpu and memory overclocking/tuning is very fun on the latest intel architecture and provides noticeable real world improvements. I think you are just a jaded old boomer who got left behind
>>109766839This.>pay 50% more for an overclockable MB/CPU/GPU that runs hot and constantly crashes >gain 10% theoretical performance that doesn't make any difference in real applications>get mogged by the next generation of poorfag hardware
>>109766896>on the latest intel architectureSo, priced out?
>>109766839True, that's a micro-niche, of a sub-genre of hobbies. I.e.:ComputersFunctionGamingHigher frame ratesOverclocking more frames function more frames overclockYou can tell it isn't a hobby by how cyclical it is and how unrelatable it is to average people (that is, no use-case). Overclocking old hardware to meet a minimum spec for a game isn't cyclical. Hobby function gaming overclock for better gaming experience end.Half of /g/ is people trying to find merit and validity in cyclical micro-niches. You naturally feel disgust at seeing someone's riced arch linux setup because it is unrelatable and serves no function other than itself.
>>109766822OC is now factored in the CPU itself, you can still do it if you're bored but it is not practical anymore.
>>109766896>overclocking Intel CPU’senjoy the house fire
>>109766822PC building is still an affordable hobbyGo look up how expensive hobbyist RC cars or RC airplanes are and thank the lord for PC prices
Hobbies are for midwits
>>109767260>$5000 every two years because modern devs can't optimize for shitwe've reached a point where audiophilia is a cheaper hobby. Price of a midtier PC gets me Susvaras
>>109767262Good morning saar
>>109767297bro you HAVE to spend $600000 every ten seconds, PC gaming is so expensive
>>109766958its not that bad, they drop their retarded prices after like 6 months to a year, you can get good deals. overclocking on Intel at least in my experience gives you noticeable gains whereas on amd it was very minimal, gpu wise though I got good results overclocking/undervolting my 9070 xt with LACT on Linux because they let you get the full 2x8 pin and pcie power limit somehow
>>109767307a PC that runs games with the standards of 2026 (NATIVE 4K at minimum 60Hz High-Max settings) costs $5000
>>109767331And you bought a $5000 PC this year intending to spend $5000 again in 2028?
>>109767370nope. I'm done with gayming. it's way too high maintenance plus I don't have time or energy for it since I'm an adultspent the money on some Focal Utopias. at least it's a one time purchase and I don't ave to updoot all the fucking time.
>>109767420????
Haven't CPU clocks been pushed to the max from factory for a while now? What do you people want, 300 stage pipelines so they can clock up to 10Ghz?
>>109767513>Haven't CPU clocks been pushed to the max from factory for a while now?Yup. I remember overclocking an 8320e and a 4790k and when I eventually came to build a new PC I went with an 1800x and quickly realised there was a bare minimum of headroom to improve clock speed on the CPU. Clocking ram speeds and timings became much more important to overall system performance for me then.
>>109766822local AIs are as good as cloud models so the big 5 AI companies + the DoW have performed market capture pricing hardware out of the consumer market so that we can have this gay command economy to lose to china in terms of freedom and culturesam altman and donald trump legit want america to get nuked, they are pro china
>>109766896>overclocking intel cpus>2026
>>109766822overclocking wasn't killed, it just became less worth it because stock CPUs got better.Extreme over-clocking is still a thing, just not as culturally relevant.
>>109767681>break a $1k chip>potentially buy 3 of them for $3000>break $200 chip>potentially buy 3 for $600you are a brain dead shill for the market capture and price gouging of consumer hardware, even if youre a rich bastard and $3k is just rent to you, thats not the kind of money you blow on a whim to stay rich
>>109766822We're now at the point where a chiller is more affordable than a PC
>>109767953overclocking heavily declined before the serious price-gouging even began
>>109767007I feel that way about peoples' lawns and gardens
How the fuck is pc building a hobbyIt's a utility>my hobby is building chairsdumbYou build a chair because you need one and then you stop and sit down.
>>109766822>like overclockingno one killed anything pc building is still fun and affordable, overclocking is harder now because cpus and gpus automatically overclock themselves
>>109766822these all vanished
>>109769459>she doesn't upgrade her gaming chair when she upgrades her pc
>>109767331lul, isn't that the price of the gpu alone?
>>109766822you can still OC and build PC's you fucking faggot
>>109770029>>109766958
>>109770666Half the fun of overclocking was taking some low end cheap POS and making it competitive.
>>109766947>pay 50% more for an overclockable MB/CPU/GPU that runs hot and constantly crashes You littler zoomer shit this is exactly what the OP is talking about, they didn't use to sell locked/unlocked versions of CPUs
>>109770741Yes they did larper
>>109767260you can get nice chinky radios for around ~$200, probably get a basic foam beginner plane kit for ~$100, another couple hundred for receivers/battery/chargers/motor/esc/servos. as long as you're ordering chinkshit online and aren't going full FPV racing meme it's not that expensive.
>>109770772Now you're being a pedant, pre-sandy bridge you could overclock any chip by adjusting the FSB
>>109770845FSB overclocking is for LOCKED CPUs holy shit why are you so stupid
>>109770741They only sold locked ones before the unlocked CPUs were invented as something to charge a premium for.
>>109770958No it wasn't, final clock speed is FSB x multiplier. On chips with an unlocked multiplier you'd adjust both. You're still being a retarded pedant though, the point here is could could overclock any chip you bought, you didn't need to pay a premium.
>>109771100Chips with unlocked multiplier didn't exist before Intel decided to make it a premium feature after FSB overclocking became unviable.
>>109771100An unlocked CPU can overclock with multiplier or fsb, a locked CPU can only use the FSB.
>>109769977disgusting slop
>>109766822You can still build retro PC's, try to salvage old tech.
>>109766861they act exactly like jeets
>>109766822>open graphics driver config tool>lower GPU voltagewow, great hobby
>>109766822You can still build a retro PC, anon
