It is cheap and safe.
You setup a cheap set without anything truly owned by the company, you are not risking any undesired asset, even the clothing and accessories of anyone on set is brand new or a rental. They don't give a shit about the appearance, but rather have a proper CLEAN set to record a message, so at least nothing that isn't approved is shown.
The other reason is to supposedly identify with the middle class aesthetic, which we all know is bullshit, but whatever, is not damaging them as much to change the current way the do these things.
