Is Libre Office better than Microsoft's
if you think the office web apps are bloated pieces of shitwait till you try the bloated Qt garbage that is LibreOffice Calcshit takes a full second to update the ribbon UI after moving between cellsthe error messages are even worse than excel when you fuck up an inputpivot tables use fucking java for whatever reason
>>109768061>>109768073I've noticed it's extremely slow to open which I hate
it's not bad if it's all you use, but it has basically no compatibility with other software. if you try to open an office document it will fuck up the formatting.
Open source has NOTHING that approaches what Excel can do
>>109768073Don't use Java and LibreOffice is fast.
It's usable and can write a document. And it's free. That's pretty much it.On the other hand, Office has gotten bloated and it doesn't really have any great new features since the old days. They just added fancy transitions to editing and ribbon menus.Heck today you could write a doc in an electron app. Same shit.
>>109768061Yes, but retards cant deal with it, becase no Clippit to help them.
>>109768061Lower quality and slower, but with how quickly microshaft is enshittifying microsoft office might unironically be worse in 10 years.
>>109768061Almost. Give Microsoft one more version to fuck up their software and Libre Office wins by default.
>>109768061>is eating used syringes in a dirty alley better than four-course meal in an upmarket restaurant
>>109768061onlyoffice is better imo>>109768143excel is dogwater, cant even export to csv properly. Everything you do in excel could probably be done in much easier way in free software, its just that people dont want to learn those tools. In university i was working with a guy that was spending hours doing some schizo excel magic to a spreadsheet when he could have just vibe coded a python script to achieve the same result in like 5 seconds.its the same problem with people trying to recreate windows in linux and then complain that linux sucks
>>109768385Excel is probably the most misused software. Many corporations still use it as a database.
>>109768401Yep, and 10 seconds doing anything even slightly complicated with Excel shows you why.Excel (indeed, every spreadsheet) is effectively a programming language - and your *.xls* file is your "binary". If you keep everything inside the xls*, you've made a completely portable "program".And we love portable programs. Everyone does.
The last offline MS Office (2021 LTSC, I believe it was) is brety gud. Use ODF instead of OOXML for better compatibility with other office suites, including LibreOffice. If you can't use ODF, then you shouldn't really be using LibreOffice either.>>109768116Clarification: OOXML (.docx) documents are likely to have their formatting fucked up when you edit a MS Office document using LibreOffice. This doesn't happen when you use ODF (.odt).
LibreOffice can still be used and installed local, no cloud AIDS, so it's good for privacy. Open up writer, write whatever you want, and no one's going to AI scan it for anything seditious or whatever.
>>109768061It still can't do bibliographies or in-text citations. But maybe a decade from now its middle click scrolling won't be sluggish.
>>109768061No, because>it's way slower than MSO>MSO newer than 2010 is slower than MSO 2010
>>109768073>>109768099What??? It opens instantly for me and is as snappy as Windows 7
>>109768061>Is Libre Office better than Microsoft'sYes, it doesn't spy on your documents
>>109768061Worse than windows 3.1 era office.
>>109768061I've been using it for years, but it's still worse than the free Excel I remember from university. My biggest beefs are lack of Google Sheets function for creating multirow tables with one input like FILTER and broken webcall implementation. I had a really big sheet with lots of fields converting prices from parsed API calls and after abut 20 sheets random data coming from webcalls got corrupted. The same formulas worked fine when copied to smaller documents but returned empty values in the big one.
>>109775224but better than a expired license.
>>109768073LibreOffice Calc is a piece of shit, it can't even come close. Its like this Excel > Power gap > Google Sheets > Power gap x 10 > LibreOffice CalcIn fact I could probably vibe a better Excel alternative than Libre
>>109776415I might add google sheets has some specific advantages over Excel but it doesn't handle as large datasets in the spreadsheet well
>>109768338>slowerhow? it's native compared to microsoft reactslop
>>109775224Excel from that era breaks if you use dates past 2019
>>109776415good thread, just as I was considering using a sheet calculator to keep my finances in checkso basically libreoffice and openoffice excel equivalent are not even worth using?
>hourly freetard permavirgin incel seethe thread
>>109768061In my casial experince they're about the same
>>109768482It's worse than you think once you look under the hood, it's all XML
>>109768061Calc/Excel I can excuse but why are writer apps slow as fuck in the big 2026? There are versions that run on browser they should be super optimized by now
>>109768061No. They updated it and it fucking BROKE like every single fucking piece of GARBAGE FOSSHIT LOONIX SHITWARE. Shame on me for trying to use this crap
>>109768061Just use OnlyOffice.
>>109768073Not my experience at all. It works fine for me and better than Excel. I don't use a ribbon and I disable Java like >>109768149 says.LO gets slower when you have more cells than Excel does. But for most purposes it's fine.>>109768359>Microsoft (or Libreoffice, for that matter)>four-course meal in an upmarket restaurantlol>>109768143If there was something I needed done with columns of data I couldn't do in Calc I would use awk.
No love for OpenOffice huh
