Depends on what you're looking for. If you want to understand how radio works, looking at Wikipedia articles about radio waves and electromagnetism are always the best place to start. After that I think the best thing would be actually working in it yourself (e.g building a foxhole radio receiver, or getting into ham radio)
TLDR:

>Shortwave has the smallest frequencies, and then above it is (massive over simplification) AM, FM, and antenna TV
>Higher frequency means better quality, but the higher of a frequency something has the more it has to be line of sight (the transmitter and the antenna needing to see each other without too many obstructions such as hills or buildings in the way)
>Hence, shortwave can be heard around the world with just a handheld radio whereas being 50 miles away from a TV transmitter requires a strong outdoor antenna

There was a crazy sale on Eton Executives the other year, so I have one of those along with a much smaller one for on the go DXing.

For the home, I mainly use my SDR with a 9:1 and longwire.

what's really annoying is I went to a high school that specialised in electronics but I just couldn't get myself to care at the time we even went over radios but the only thing I really remember is my teacher at the time telling us how he and his friends were trying to tune into western bloc broadcasts on a radio they put together guess I'll look into some wiki articles then might look into some proper books later if I manage to stick with it this time

I do have this one older radio that I got few years back, I'm not sure if it's a shortwave radio, I think it can do short, mid and long waves if that's a thing. It's a bit of an odd duck though. I've not been able to catch a single local station on it but I did catch ones from seemingly really far. There was a russian radio, I believe a french one, got an english broadcast one time so I assume that was from the UK. The strangest one I managed to find was in chinese I have no idea where it could've been broadcasting from but they were 100% speaking chinese. I don't have an external antenna I wanted to get one but it just hasn't happened yet I don't even know where to start with that sort of thing, another thing I'll have to look into but I'm guessing it has some little internal one since it has caught something I'll try to get some photos or recordings of it later
