Audacity sucks now
>>
>>109770999
Audacity was never good at anything except being free anyway, it doesn’t suck “now” it simply never stopped sucking.
>>
>>109770999
Was always shit, but whatever.
>>
The logo is the smallest issue.
The main issue is all the bullshit they build in to sell your shit to advertisers

Just use ocen audio

https://www.ocenaudio.com/
>>
What's wrong with it?
>>
My software center thing brought up Tenacity when I searched Audacity so I just use that now. Seems to be the same exact thing without whatever bullshit they started doing recently. Sucks just about as much as before, but not any more.
>>
what is the mental illness where you do anything possible to avoid picking up an actual DAW
>>
>>109771592
actual DAWs are bloat
>>
>>109770999
tried to open some random multiple hour long youtube audio track and it converted it to multi gigabyte temporary file, no idea what for, such is open source, uninstalled this shit right away
>>
uh Sneedacity bros?
>>
>>109771063
this. maybe for the most basic tasks like peak normalizing a file it can be fine, but my god is actually using audacity horrible for any real audio editing.
>>
>>109771526
they changed the logo
>>
>>109770999
they just abandoned GTK for Qt, it's better than ever
>>

Failure project.

>booting up a daw just to trim a wav file
lmao, do you also boot up an IDE just to edit your notes?
>>
>>109771526
It doesn't look like a Windows 3.1 app now.
jokes aside they did somehow lose some features in the GUI transition, but I'm not one of the people who used those features so I don't care.
>>
>>109771592
I don't want to open my whole DAW and select a new input source just to record system audio, which my audacity is set to do by default because that's all I use it for.
>>
>>109771526
It looks like a sickle poking at a semicircle. Not headphones
>>
>>109778517
Seize the means of audio production.
>>
Well it's a bloody good thing I finished this project in the span of 2 days
4.x isnt packaged yet thankfully
>>
>>109770999
man, thats genuinely one shit logo.
>>
>>109778540
Things like this tell me they have a bunch of women in the office taking up time with useless make-work.
>>
>>109770999
~> LANG=C paru -Qi audacity | rg "Version"
Version : 1:3.7.9-1

Not my problem
>>
>>109770999
why are nocoders always so hung up on the logo? is that because it's the only thing they could possibly contribute?
>>
>>109771592
I want the MS paint of audio tools. Cropping and basic effects.
>>
>>109770999
It really is. I tried to clip an audio file for a loop and they completely change the controls.
>>
>>109770999
I haven't updated Audacity since that announcement that they would put spyware in it and I've kept the original installer for that version ever since. How is Adobe Audition?
>>
>>109771592
>using some fuckoff huge program just to make a quick edit
By the time a full DAW finished loading, I could have already made an edit and exported the file in Audacity. Waste of time and resources.

Do you also whip out one of these when you need to cut a sheet of paper?
>>
>>109771592
DAWs are overly complicated slop for studio engineers. I don't need all those fancy features and gizmos
>>
>>109779611
Its not just the logo, the entire UI has been overhauled and looks worse
>>

Thanks for sharing, anon. I always found Audacity frustrating but this OcenAudio thing feels like home for the old Cool Edit user I am. And it still works on Win7.

>picking up an actual DAW
It's like using an atomic bomb to kill a fly.
Also all DAW are heavy bloated shit nowadays, and none is free anymore.

get this instead.
>>
>>109771542
I think the snapping feels better, but that could just be in my head.
Regardless yeah, Tenacity does what I need anyway, for the rare time I have to make sounds or whatever.

The logo, yes
The actual functionality is a straight up improvement over 3.7 or whatever it was before 4
>>
>>109781881
It's literally better than before
>>
>>109782427

Musescore:
>take over foss project
>build a proprietary cloud storage for sheet and rendered music
>build a proprietary site for sheet music integration
>build a proprietary store for paid instrument sounds
>insert an ad when you save to let you save to a "free" cloud storage instead of locally
>insert instrument store ad when running the program
>make the default page the login page for your proprietary account system
>break midi out to incentivize lazy people to buy instrument packs

Audacity:
>take over foss project
>build a proprietary cloud storage for your audio files
><<<you are here>>>
>>
>>109771513
Seems good. For some reason, Audacity takes like 10 seconds to load on my machine, and I haven't even downgraded to whatever OP is talking about.
>>
>>109782504
Literally every change in audacity 4 is for the better. Stop being obtuse
>>
>>109782594
i pity your lack of pattern recognition
