Why can no one compete against cuda? I'm not talking about userbase and ecosystem. I'm talking about performance.

Nvidia likes to employ dirty tactics. Like when they purchased physx to make it nvidia exclusive, then paid developers to incorporate it into games.
At one point they tried to bar vendors from producing AMD cards, but that fell through.

It's called monopoly abuse. Normally companies doing this get forced to licence the tech to avoid monopolies
