even if an algorithm is polynomial time it may still be impractical to compute, like if you can show a problem is solvable in O(n^999999) time, that's cool but not helpful

From what I've read, we have no idea how to even approach this; if AI does it (without stealing someone's ideas) it would indeed be a proof of superhuman intelligence. But also the consensus among those in the know is that P=/=NP.
