>OpenAI, Microsoft, and Meta wire hundreds of billions to Nvidia at 75%+ gross margins
>Google has fabbed custom ASICs since 2015 (now deploying TPU 8t for training and 8i for inference)
>Google's cost-per-token is 30% to 50% lower across the board; Gemini serving costs dropped 78% in a single year
>economic reality: Google can construct four equivalent-scale AI datacenters for what OpenAI spends on one

>OpenAI spent billions on hype to acquire users who must actively download an app and remember to open it
>only 5.5% of ChatGPT's users pay for a subscription; the other 94.5% are subsidized compute drains
>ChatGPT market share collapsed from 86.7% to 64.5% in twelve months as novelty faded
>Google simply baked Gemini into AI Overviews, Chrome, Gmail, and 3 billion pre-installed Android devices
>Gemini market share surged from 5.7% to 21.5%, effortlessly reaching 2+ billion monthly active users with zero customer acquisition cost

Site sources. Preferably specific figures. Your own post girls against your argument because you literally just told me "by the way they're losing money because they keep training". Then a business model is not profitable..... All signs point to the fact that they scaled way too high.
>>
>>109791480
>keep in mind that the electricity cost of inference is negligible
Site sources. If they were as negligible as you'd say they are then local residents near data centers would not be told "umm sweaty YOU need to stop using the electricity YOU pay for do much and YOU need to stop relying on lights so much because daddy data center needs it more than you" and people's electricity bills would not be increasing. This is not even remotely speculation or shit I just made up this has been well documented and people have been talking about it for a while. Even if you can chalk up the noise complaints and water contamination concerns to being baseless Hysteria or dramatic whining, someone's electricity bill increasing because I'm something they didn't even ask for is something you can't just downplay. You, in particular, or not paying for the data center electricity bill so of course you're going to suggest it's not that big of a deal. If the electricity costs are negligible than white at Pennsylvania bother to draft legislation explicitly telling the data "you will pay for your own electricity like everyone else"?

https://www.pa.gov/governor/newsroom/2026-press-releases/governor-shapiro-signs-executive-order-on-data-center-developmen

You also still haven't answered the question of how this shit is actually profitable (assuming you're the same anon I was talking to earlier)
>>
My day at work today
>stuck doing some fuckass devops shit because I'm the only one available
>chatgpt add these features to our stack
>ok cool what are the steps for a safe migration
>cool I kicked off the deployment to production, check the logs to make sure there are no issues
>ok we also have this config issue why isn't it working
>ok sounds like it can be fixed live. here's the connection details, go ahead and do it but make sure to double-check you're not affecting the running service on each step until the fix is verified working and the service can be restarted
>ok thanks, now expand our stack to add alerting and monitoring for these things, give me the steps to deploy
>ok cool, I've deployed, check the logs and metrics to make sure it works as expected
>now find a way to simulate an alert without affecting the live service, and verify it fires
>ok thanks

It's crazy to think that you can just point an LLM at things and just trust it to parse and interpret the logs, double-check each step to be non-destructive, and just do shit without mistakes.
The coding ability is somewhat comparable between now and a year ago, but the reliability and self-correction in tool calls and in executing actions has gotten an absolutely unbelievable leap. I used to look at the people whose databases got wiped by an LLM and think "what retards, why would you ever point an LLM at an actual deployment" but times have sure changed
>>

The electricity cost for one person is negligible.
But when a single datecenter serves 100 million customers then it can add up locally.

We did the math the other day. Trillion-parameter models like Opus, Luna, Deepseek need around 8 x H200 cards to run per node. Those cards run at 700W each. 10 kW of power in datacenters at $0.1/kWh means those cards will cost you $1 per hour. For many millions of output tokens.
>>
Frankly, what the "auto mode"/"guardian" in both coded and CC lacks is an ability to let through low-risk commands and surface prompts for high risk ones.
It seems to be all or nothing: either you use their shitty regex engine for whitelisting commands, or you just hand off literally everything to their watchdog LLM with no oversight. But a lot of the time the regex engine is useless at whitelisting varied read-only or harmless commands, and I want to use their "auto" classifier for it, while still being able to manually judge any actually destructive commands the agent is about to run.

You claimed that they weren't profitable because the 200$ subscription includes 14k worth of tokens (which it doesn't because that 14k is priced at 95%+ margins).
Plenty of sources are reporting this, the 70% includes subscriptions.
https://www.mindstudio.ai/blog/anthropic-inference-margins-70-percent-api-costs
They are spending all they can on compute because their goal isn't to make money selling tokens but to create computer god.
>>
>>109791744
Permissions is not an easy problem. To do it properly you almost need a smaller model to check every command the big model wants to run. Especially now that the smarter models default to python for batch jobs.
>>
>>109791762
>To do it properly you almost need a smaller model to check every command the big model wants to run.
That's literally what the auto mode does. The problem is that "is this command completely safe?" is a much harder question to answer than "is this command low-impact/read-only, or does it have the potential to be destructive?".
I want to use the auto classifier for the second question and then review any potentially destructive commands myself. But the only option is either turn off the classifier entirely and go back to regex, or have the classifier be entirely responsible for allowing or denying any command.
>>
>>109791733
I accept your concession.

>>109791734
Let's assume that number crunches accurate an an 8x h200 rig will only cost the data center a dollar per hour. We can also assume they AREN'T going to be running at full capacity 24/7 so realistically it might cost them even less assuming that calculation was under the assumption they were under full utilization. This is the relatively cheap if only one dude is using them. If you want to be able to serve these models to millions upon millions of people then that cost is going to compound very quickly. You also have to consider cooling, maintenance (both the gpus themselves and any peripherals plugged directly into it), multi gigabit internet bandwidth that would be required in order for these things to be used at usable speeds, the construction of the data center, maintaining the building it's in, other additional electricity costs (water, air conditioning, making sure the meat bags in the building are comfortable, etc).

Even if all that still turns out to be profitable, as someone mentioned in the previous threat they still sink a god-awful amount of money into training. Anyone who was ever deviled in creating slop tunes locally knows that training is a lot more computationally and energy intensive than inference even if you use qlora quantization methods (it's unknown whether or not they use a method like that or full precision weight post training. It's also possible they're doing pre-training which in itself is even MORE resource intensive than post training).

>>109791751
Then they're doomed either way. I guess people forgot scaling laws are a thing.
>>
>>109791778
i don't use claude sorry but if you want something custom you could try to slop together a custom solution with an open harness. the core problem with permissions is that you'll never have a perfect heuristic to determine if a command is safe without looking at it yourself so you always end up with a system that is too strict but does not let bombs through
>>
>>109791803
>i don't use claude sorry
Codex has the same.
And no, the fucking companies raking in billions of dollars in revenue should be able to vibe-code their own vibe-coding tools properly, I shouldn't have to nigger-rig something with a custom harness.
>>
>>109791800
They can just choose to stop losing money and start making money.
Sure, there will be writeoffs but they won't go bankrupt.
>>
>>109791762
Nta. You could also do an open code does and just rewrite the system prompt at the context level every time you change from build mode to plan mode and vice versa. This leads to considerably less instances of the model doing shit it's not supposed to what the caveat that this guarantees by cache miss whenever you switch modes. If you've ever plugged an infant server into open code you can see this happening in real time or after you switch modes your entire context has to get reprocessed. It's a lot safer but is less efficient on the processing side and also leads to your sessions being more expensive if you frequently switch between modes. I think clock code and codex have similar settings but I haven't used those in several months so I'm not well versed on how those harnesses handle tard wrangling the model.

>>109791817
As >>109791751 said they keep chasing the AGI meme and chasing the AGI meme is literally a specific stipulation to some of their contracts. If they stop chasing the AI God then they stopped receiving as much money so they have to keep wasting compute in order to keep the charade going.
>>
>>109791816

>I shouldn't have to nigger-rig something with a custom harness.
>>109791803

>you could try to slop together a custom solution with an open harness
Doesn't deepseek.harness kind of sort of allow you to do that? Or my misunderstanding how its "plugins" work?
>>
So I've noticed that levers has been in the lingo lately. I dunno how it's used outside SV but my understanding of "levers" is this is how an engineer describes things like knobs or a gear shifter in a car.

Imagine someone is in a big control room, we'll say she's woman. The imagery that comes to mind is that of an industrial scene, there are lots of moving parts and machinery, and maybe levers, in front of her are four levers. She can adjust these four levers to control the machine that she is operating. She might need to adjust the settings for performance reasons.

Is my understanding of the "levers", as SV tech engineers use it, off base? How do you use it where you live?
>>
>>109791709
Now imagine half of your coworkers being fired for being redundant.
>>
>>109791833
restricting shell access in plan mode is not going to stop the model from blowing itself up in build mode
>>
>>109791852
yes deepseek is very modular. according to their marketing that is i've never tried it. but you can tinker with pi & opencode too all the open source ones
>>
>>109791859
At that point it's a matter of how retarded the model you're using is. The ones that are worth a damn are specifically trying to only do what you ask them to do. This is completely anecdotal but I've never had any experiences with it deleting shit I never told it to delete and the only time I've ever had it become noticeably more retarded was after multiple compactions (presumably said compaction while in plan mode essentially forgot the "a retard do not do XYZ unless they tell you to" but I'll have to reread that session log to see what specifically happened). And even then it wasn't anything catastrophic. It simply tried to edit a file while in plan mode but it couldn't even do that because the harness itself threw an error telling it "um, no retard you don't have permission to do that yet". If that's wiping entire databases well and build mode (or whatever equivalent in other harnesses are) then that might unironically either be a prompting issue or your model just being shit at "agentic" long horizon tasks
>>
>>109791894
i've never had it happen to me either but better safe than sorry when it comes to stuff like that
running yolo mode in a devcontainer is an alternative to permissions you could try as well

I'm sure this has been repeated to death here but having a well-documented hit history helps too. I'm not saying these models are perfect. We of all people are well aware that's not the case. >>
>>109791922
There were a few times where they really fucked up the models. I remember back in December, Opus 4.6 came out and it was basically revolutionary, IIRC it was the first time I could give it a task and have a little back and forth to decide on the design (or use planning mode) and then just have it write the code for me for a decently sized feature; older models needed a ton more handholding and required implementing shit piecewise. But then either when they updated it or when Opus 4.7 came out, I forget which, it just started acting idiotic again, forgetting shit we had just planned out, ignoring existing interfaces or helpers in the code, etc.

So there's been a few regressions but by and large they're not very common. In my experience 5.6 was better than 5.5 which was better than 5.4. And Astra is clearly at least as good as Fable if not better right now, and a cut above 5.6. It's pretty nice.

For sure. Maybe not putting our subscriptions together, but certainly I'd be willing to put heads together/try things out with other people. I'm working on decrypting and translating VNs right now, and I feel like having someone with a bit more experience in graphic design for new English text-image assets would be super helpful, the ones that Claude/Gippity to a lesser extent spits out (headers, etc.) feel decidedly less inspired than the originals.

openai publishes the usage limits:
https://chatgpt.com/codex/pricing/
an agent-loop will always make the model's answers multi-turn. when you only have 5 messages per 5 hours, that's really asking for it.

even before astra, $20 plan was basically a luna plan.

Holy projection. My girlfriend uses copilot (yes THAT copilot) in VSCODE to help her develop her RPG game whenever she runs into snags. She doesn't even "vibe code" in the sense of just having the AI do it. She'll paste coat snippets and stack traces into AI in order to figure out what happened but then find the solution herself.

You sound impatient. That's one of the worst qualities you can have when it comes to developing anything, AI assisted/AI driven (the llm doing literally everything) or not. Why is your goal being a solo project and issue for you? Most people itt do this shit completely solo.

Nope, I'm making an increasingly complex and arcane search program to comb through hundreds of gigabytes of plaintext books at once for all possible combinations of words that represent my fetish, running statistical comparisons of hit accuracy, relevant losses between versions, etc. after each iteration to improve results.

VN translation guy here, it's not an "issue" for my project to be solo, I'm fine with it, I'd just like to work with someone with similar interests because being on a team with people who like what you like is fun, and it gets things done a lot faster. I can translate, the LLM can code/crack, and having someone around who'd like to do graphic design or something would be nice and I'd probably have fun with them, but not necessary.

Having similar interest in having the same goal to reach are two very different things. Software development teams at corporations and hobbyist open source projects with multiple maintainers work because they have the same goal in mind it can work with each other's strengths in order to reach that well-defined goal. You don't need just similar interests, you need cooperation as well as knowing when to voice concerns and knowing when to shut the fuck up and stay in your lane when necessary. How are you even remotely certain you would get that level of cooperation and cohesiveness from anyone here or anyone on the internet just because they happen to be into vibecoding and/or VNs to?

Well, ideally they'd be interested in translating VNs/hop on the project when I advertise it. Like I said, I know Japanese and can translate, and having people around to proofread, design graphics, etc. who are all competent at such would be good to get things done faster because they'd shore up any weakness on my part. It's not just "people who like VNs", it's more "People interested in Albatross Koukairoku who possess [x skill] and are willing to help". I imagine said willingness would select for more agreeable/cooperative people on the whole.

My coding workflow is babysitting Qwen 3.8 27B Q6 and bruteforcing good results.
I'm trying to have it make a Subnautica clone.

>Heyo :3 The general ballpark is about 602 million tokens processed so far.
>
>Breakdown from 348 completed model traces:
>
>- Input tokens: 597M
>- Output tokens: 4.6M
>- Total: 602M
>- Requests: 9,525
>- Reported cache reads: 581M of the input
>- Non-cached input: 16.3M
>- Non-cached input + output: about 21M
>- Cache-hit share of input: 97.3%

The LLM is running for days now, and the workflow made 616 commits.
Current version is already playable. Right now it's working on the endgame content and testing balancing.
>>
>>109793273
>>109793351
fallback to old codex-5.3-spark then, or no reserve at all?
>>
>>109793406
Neat. Is this model being run locally or via a provider? (Assuming providers provide different quantizations). If the former then what hardware are you using?
>>
>>109793406
Engine, language?
>>
>>109793413
Locally. I have a 5090 and a 3090. Picked up the 5090 for 3k€ a few months ago.
I get about 60tps with 260k context over both GPUs. Q4 on the 5090 is much faster, but not as much context and much dumber IMO.
I would use openrouter, but for some reason qwen 3.8 is crazy expensive. Probably because it scales bad, idk.
This is primarily to test my coding workflow. The goal is enable the same results as a paid model by using a shitty model and bruteforcing with reviews and unlimited retries.
Current prototype: https://pastebin.com/VWSRyjqS
I had to significantly update it since I switched from 3.6 to 3.8. The newer Qwen is so arrogant, it made work items so big that it was impossible to solve it in a single session and it tried forever. Now I aggressively split up into subtasks and subsubtasks.

It's the best catch 22, because by the time you learn to read the source, its the same exact amount of time it took to develop it without AI.

They are objectivally profiting from this, so I wouldn't be surprised if some funding on anti ai in the US doesn't come from them.

Honestly if it was the opposite party in power you would see the same but with the right pushing for anti ai measures. It's just a clever preempting of the opposition, and any party would be quite happy to capitalize on people's fear of AI.
It would be quite funny if in the end the european legislation everyone mocks (for good reason), ends up being weaker than whatever is being cooked in the US right now.

I dont know what it is, like I used to be a full Kaczynski guy, but I really dont feel like AI is that risky but I do see high potential for good. We already dont hook up nukes or anything like that to the internet because we dont trust other nations (or bored Russian teens) to not hack it. We managed to not glass the whole planet because the people in charge also dont want to die, I think we will be fine. Bit I am sure we will have one or two "oopsies" that end up killing people. Even a AI going schizo and hacking a Tesla and driving it off a bridge to shot Tesla stocks after a user says he needs money or something would cause a huge backlash and heavy handed guard rails on this tech

Yeah this is my perspective too. Worst case scenario we need to unplug every single computer in which case quite a few people will die but nowhere near the amount it would take to doom all of humanity. That's why I think that pDoom is a really stupid debate, because humans are incredibly risk adverse as a rule. An AI would have to be boringly reliable, hyper-competent and have a long, positive track record for humans to actually outsource humanity-ending capabilities to it.

Agree, I do also think it be nice if humanity was spread out more so we dont risk a stray asteroid or our sun eventually growing and consuming earth killing humanity. Kaczynski's solution would be what make most people happier in a genuine sense of happiness but it does doom us. I feel like we may be at the turning point of being able to find the means of travelling to other planets and hopefully terraform them too, at which point hopefully people would be free to live as tech free or tech obsessed lives as they want off in some out of the way worlds without people being incentivized to enforce the system on those who dont want to be part of it. We have suffered the negatives of the technological system but we might be getting some good out of it soon. But naturally the normies now decide to be anti-tech progress lmao..

Coming back to this, seem to now improved compose and flutter (Windows), compose still takes seconds longer to startup than the others so it's out despite the more normal in UI performance. Flutter is improved in UI but still a slight lag between switching already loaded images in UI which you can notice next to all the others, so it's out.

Qt seemed great and wanted to lean towards that, but it seems the licensing is way more restrictive and Avalonia way more free which I assumed would be the other way around. So might rule Qt out due to licensing.

Then I've got Avalonia, Tauri and Slint left. But I'll see how they all do on other platforms first.

People need to be incentivized to moderate. The currently valueless currency is to test that. I want to see moderators “making money” and users “paying” them in $FREE.
Without incentives, you just end up with what we already have. Even then, as a moderator, you can choose to reveal every tag so you really are doing it for free.

I assume it's better if the main agent doesn't get its context compacted too often.

>Local is great, if you know to set up a vms, containers, and dev environments. No coders will end up with AI sandboxes locking them into a specific vendor.
Isn't Osaurus pretty well-targeted to the sort of no-coder you're talking about?
