Now that the dust has settled what went wrong

Nobody wants to play VR shit. Normal screen is plenty.
>>
I don't know but nobody wants to buy mine even though it's like $150 off MSRP
>>
>>109797143
Ozempic was supposed to help gamers and boost vr sales what happened ?
>>
The thing always stuck hanging off your head. Virtual reality will only work when it’s full immersive
>>
>>109797154
Thin people go out to have sex irl then come home and play video games on their tv screens. No VR required
>>
It's been very successful, so it's hard to say anything went wrong. The faceberg software severely limits its potential, though.
>>
>>109797136
that's the most successful vr headset there is
>>

>what went wrong
price
apple watch didn't really have much use at first, but it was fairly cheap so a lot of people got it and eventually it found its place as mostly a fitness device
nobody's dropping $3.5k on some dorky googles just to see what they do, so there won't be a cottage industry of throwing stuff at a wall and seeing what sticks
>>
For $400 it was a damn good deal. Biggest issues are the size/weight, lack of gpu power, and some controller tracking issues. It is hard to play the meta exclusive Asgards wrath 2 without getting a headache from low stutter fps. Bobovr strap with a battery and fan is basically required and replacing the facial interface.

If you don't disable Wi-Fi and forcibly shut it down, the battery won't hold a charge after you turn it "off".
>>
>>109797136
nobody wants to spend that much money just to jerk off, and thats all its good for.
>>
>>109797136
Works for me. I can lurk while lying down

Facebook froze VR progress for over half a decade, but Valve is about to reignite the fire.
>>

>froze VR progress for over half a decade
it's apple vision pro that can't even play games
>>
>>109797880
This is a quest headset and it's line 300 dollars.
>>
>>109797136
No Nintendo games
4k 3D porn is gross (ai can fix this)
Facebook software is shit (ai can't fix this)
They didn't fix VR induced nausea or headset weight/inertia or any other longstanding VR problems
>>
>>109797136
Barely any video content besides porn. Most big budget movies in the past decade are 99% CGI anyway just throw them some cash to re-render their capeslop for your headset. Zuck blew a fortune on gay metaverse bullshit instead.

Now that the dust settled over 5 years ago how many threads like this have you made

VR is one of the easiest market failures to make obvious statements about. These threads the equivalent of your toothpaste not scanning at the grocery store and you saying "I guess this means it should be free" like you are some creative genius.
>>
>>109797136
Nothing. I'm using it to play Dead Space right now. Shit's fun as hell.
>>
>>109797136
I still use mine for iRacing
>>
>>109797136
>Standalone instead of wired with an optional puck for wireless
>Integrated battery instead of external battery
>Integrated cameras for tracking and passthrough instead of a swappable module following open standards
>Poodroid
>No open standards for the tracking system so it's only compatible with proprietary controllers with poor build quality
>>109801483
Valve won't do anything if their VR system remains closed source and they only license out designs like they did with the lighthouses.
I have more faith in paper tiger Pimax if they somehow manage to push out an official Linux release this year.
>>109801519
Apple Vision Pro is irrelevant.
>>109802206
VR is the most byzantine market failure. By all rational merits it should have been more successful than it was, but it lacked a competent, central propaganda engine and there were too many speculative retards trying to get in on the ground floor of the new shartphone after they missed out.

nothing
the perfect budget PCVR

Price, timing and Meta/Facebook retardation.
Few people are willing to spend a few hundred on experimental tech they might not like, and for a lot of countries prices are even more fucking insane. A Quest 3 is 720 burgerbucks in my country, and usually it hovered around 600 before the AI pricing scam happened.
Then couple that with having to fuck around with Meta and their infrastructure, and PCVR being a whole other thing you need to think about and buy a bunch of peripherals for.

Steam's VR headset could have made a decent entry I think for a lot of people, but it's like 6 years to late, and will probably be $500 too much, if not more.
