What do you think about the technology company Sharp?

It's interesting how much pedigree and genuine technological firsts are in their history but now it seems they're not at the forefront of anything, at least where I live.

Last time I thought about them was with their memory LCDs.
I was interested in buying a couple to tinker with, but I couldn't find a single place where you could buy them. All their official resources were just marketing BS.
What's the fucking point of having a big product launch, when you won't sell it to anyone? Anyway, I forgot about it for a while, and only remembered later on when the type I was most interested in got discontinued. Good fucking going.

Back in the days, they made nice display for playstation portable.
In Japan afaik they're one of the niche for massive 8k displays. (16k now ?)

as with any tech companies who pionereed stuff, they eventually die, such is fate for all of them
it's our duty to teach our children and grandchildren about them

Sharp was THE brand for tv's and home electronics here in Sweden back in the day.
I grew up with the entire house full of Sharp electronics back in the 90's.
No idea when they fell off in popularity, rarely see the brand anymore.
