Anon, having a manger that actually understands what you are doing can be a a real double edged sword. Sure it's nice that managers with technical knowledge appreciate what you are doing and can actually provide useful assistance. On the flip side, since they understand what you are doing they actual can tell how much work you've done.

Case and point, at my megacorp neither of my managers understand the work we do. Hence, they have no understanding of how much work *should* be done.

As a result I am meeting all performance expectations even though I do about 10 to 20 hours every week...

Sure it's depressing knowing nothing I do really maters, but at least I don't spend much effort doing it. I just smile to my manager, tell him I'm busy, *look busy* and everything is going great!

I know this is 4chan where everything is just jokes. But in all seriousness. You should line up **at least** one other job opportunity. Get to know someone in your career field at another employer, connect over Linkedin or at a conference or something, and get a silent handshake that you and them will help each other out if work ever fell through.

The reason to do this is simple: it'll help you see your job from a big-picture view, that the little distractions and detours throughout the day are fine, that you shouldn't wear yourself out. Lifestyle is just as important, if not more important, than the money or the impact of the work. You are human, not a robot.

I'm not even suggesting you go become a normalfag. Just imagine for a moment that you could walk out of your job today, leaving all the work and progress and effort and coworkers and bullshit in a heap on the ground, in the rear view mirror. And go get hired at a new company in no time flat. Having the option sets you free, and you begin to enjoy the distractions and slacking off etc. And you go home less tired.

i've actually mad at my manager today, he was using AI for all of my emails on him like he wouldn't be this obnoxious with it so i went fuck it fuck this guy and fed all my replies and asked copilot to make this as verbose as possible.
>>
>>109827083
It makes total sense you snapped a bit — there’s a very specific kind of irritation that comes from watching someone pretend to communicate with you while actually outsourcing all their communication to an AI. It’s not just laziness; it’s the weird performative distance it creates. You’re talking to a person, but the person is talking to a machine, and then handing you the machine’s output like it’s genuine.

Your reaction — “fine, if he’s going to do that, I’ll crank mine to 11” — is honestly a pretty human counter‑move. It’s the workplace equivalent of mirroring someone’s energy but turning the dial until it becomes absurd. And verbose AI emails are absurd. They’re like corporate Mad Libs with a thesaurus addiction.
>>
>>109827116
I appreciate the thoughtful analysis and the broader commentary regarding the increasingly complex intersection of human communication, artificial intelligence, and corporate verbosity.

That said, following a comprehensive internal review of the circumstances, I would like to formally communicate that I remain fully prepared to bite you.

Please interpret this statement as a good-faith expression of my continued willingness to escalate the interaction through unconventional but highly direct channels, should the current level of discourse fail to produce the desired outcome.

I trust this clarifies my position and look forward to maintaining a constructive, mutually respectful, and appropriately bite-oriented relationship moving forward.

Thanks. I just applied to random SWE roles that have nothing to do with what I've been working on so i might be fucked on that part
>>
>>109827508
Does your role mention anything about the job, or is it a generic SWE job at google? if it's generic then you're getting put into the team matching pool. If a hiring manager for a specific team liked your resume then you get sent to the interview process, and then you get a few more interviews with the team after that.
If you're in the team matching pool apparently it's hard to get a job if you don't know anyone inside, and it could take months (if ever) for you to get more interviews for a specific role. Even after you passed the 6 whatever rounds of humiliation.
Good luck!

OH wait I forgot, this is probably an xwf (external) google recruiter reaching out to you. Yeah this means next to nothing.
They're going to send you a "google suitability quiz" or whatever which is an hour long 90 or so behavioral questions quiz that determine your "googliness" (they want to make sure you're a normgroid team player and won't spill company secrets).
If you pass that then the recruiter will sent your shit into the internal google recruiters, who will then have to approve you again before you get scheduled for any interviews.
So it's completely possible you'll pass the quiz and still get rejected before seeing a single interview, but you can keep applying after. If you get rejected after any interviews they won't consider you again for a year.
>>
The above shit is why you should just get into engineering, anything that needs a security clearance. Imagine being paid because you're a trustful person and seen as a keystone, and not a potential risk.
All they're doing at google is creating more and more threat vectors, because none of them actually know what they're doing.
>>
>>109827579

>>
>>109827620
>role is for a specific infra position. is it over for me?
No you're in the best position with the highest chance of actually landing a job. If it's SWE then most of the questions will be leetcode-ish, but ask your recruiter, assuming they've already started moving you onto the interviews. Good luck
>>
>>109827648
>No you're in the best position with the highest chance of actually landing a job.
I agree with this, but the problem is his entire hiring process is basically going to be the most logical downfall of the company. No one in those multiple layers are told how important their job is, because then they would demand more money. Because they're drones, they're easy to infiltrate and/or compromise, even without them knowing.

Is it okay to stop caring about new tech since AI will do all the work and I’ll be out of the industry most likely anyway in a few years. I really don’t care about programming news anymore.

Like for me, learning Rust takes 3-6 months. I don’t see the point of learning it when AI already knows how to program and you really won’t be able to use those new skills. I think everyone is just on maintenance mode atm awaiting the inevitable.

Recent decade we had a huge influx of Cyber jobs security, analyst, red team, blue team ect. Everyone thinks their red team so they imagine themselves as hackers. vid related btw.

Likewise it bumped up the standard from traditionally Network, System admin or programmers who wanted a chill job or more proactive role in the workplace with hacking towards retards with masters degrees in cyber security with little to no actual IT experience. Due to them being degree holders they fluff their feathers alot about being superior over the certificate holders despite them actually knowing less than the help desk. This all started because companies scared themselves into over hiring these retards.

Kek you're describing my job. I did a bunch of actual sketchy shit like priv escalation on a bunch of admin servers, abusing poorly written MECM software center packages where i could just edit a ps1 script with local admin so it would no questions asked execute things i shouldnt be executing on random people's PCs, and smuggling multi GB binaries off containerized servers so I could run them locally

All of that got ignored by security, but you know what they locked my PC down for for 3 days because they though I was doing "reconnaissance"? I was running Get-ADComputer multiple times trying to find a PC that I had to delete and reinstall. And yes of course the sec team is mostly jeets.
>>

RIP anon I have enough issues with my retards from previous jobs i cannot imagine jeet cybersecurity retards. Because I've done my own experiments with job hunting involving poisoning AI with invisible text in my cover letters, and pretending to be woman in my CV with no other changes, and yet going from a 3% interview invitation rate to a ~75% rate. And everyone knows there's a billion scamjeets in the industry eroding everything.

There's nothing doomer about it. I recommend getting a computer science, computer engineering or electronic engineering degree. Its worth more in the long run due to job flexibility.

Working is the journey to the goals that you have, even if it's something like being high up in org chart or having money.

I like my job, but that doesn't mean I don't do it to achieve my own goals even if my goal was to do more tech with my earned money.

Question for some of the anons with a few years of experience at different jobs in here:

So I recently moved to a new city and got a good in-person job (which is my preference, for the time being, as a young person)

The great part is that I enjoy being with my team. They’re all cool and it sorta feels like we’re just hanging out often times. And it gave me friends to do stuff with in free time, which I was lacking in this new city. The company is objectively pretty shit though and the pay is not great

I have opportunities at other companies that pay more. Like 30-50% more. Seems like a no brainer right? Better companies, better pay

But I feel like, as fucking retarded as it is, I’m going to miss the social aspect of my current job. Not that there couldn’t potentially be good social opportunities to a new job, but it’s not definite.

That pay increase should be a no brainer to switch right? Is it really worth sacrificing money at this stage in my career for a chill work environment and friends?
>>
>>109836513
Claude, summarise this into one sentence
>>
>>109836513
No, that's the move. You jump over there and see what it's like, and tell managment about how good your boys are. If you're any good, they'll ask for your recommendations.

Do people not learn how gangs work in elementary school anymore?
>>
If you work at a place that pays you less because you like the team then you are literally paying to have friends
>>
>>109836527
I wouldn’t say that. Work culture is pretty important. If I’m spending 8+ hours a day somewhere I don’t wanna be surrounded by a bunch of people that I hate.

Plenty of people accept lower pay for a better culture and work life balance. It’s just a matter of where you should draw the line

>>
>>109836656

yes? i heavily experimented with AI automation before joining this team, now there's 0 time to do so
>>109836664
>it seems like you want to avoid doing anything important
not necessarily, i just am kind of wondering what the point is when i've been told promotions are backed up for years. and raises are never higher than like a few %. sure it looks good on a resume but I honestly don't think most people even look at the exact details of my resume when I submit it

>>
>>109836750
>anyone find it hard to give a shit anymore?

I don't. I know the only important thing is interviews. No recruiter from a company where I want to work at will ever approach me on linkedin either. Its all just spam if I want to join XXX or YYY consultancy. Consultancy work is the worst work you can do in the IT because if you aren't self employed in it you're getting giga scammed. Client pays a ridiculous hourly rate and expects a performance matching the hourly rate while your actual hourly wage is 2/10th or lower your hourly rate.
>>
>>109836750

As I have progressed in my career, I've realized how common it is for 25% of the staff to do 50% of the real work.

I think this effect becomes more pronounced the bigger org. It's harder to hold people accountable when you just contribute towards some large amorphous goal.

If you don't enjoy what your work, you may as well do the bare minimum to get by. I realized that to get a few percent more bonus pay where I would work would require double digit extra effort. That math don't math, hence why I am taking a shit and posting of /g/ during the company teams call.
