Mattresses are technology. Are expensive mattresses a meme?
>>
>>109833709
Buy one with promo codes to support your ASMR waifu.
Or just sleep on the floor like Marcus Aurelius did.
>>
>>109833709
hybrid. don't fuck with an all foam unit. they all collapse. get a hybrid pocket coil with multi-foam layer and a "cooling" mattress cover.
>>
>>109833709
get a waterbed

not only are modern mattresses an environmental catastrophe, they are all too heavy and bulky

the nips were right, a 100% cotton pad that is light enough to fold up and store, and also hang outside in the sun to disinfect, is the most based option for temperate climates
>>
my back is more painfree the thinner the mattress
>>
Go look up a local mattress manufacturer and get a traditional spring mattress made. Beats anything else. If you have money try a natural latex mattress it's way better than memory foam but they never caught on because they're expensive as fuck and weigh a shit ton and can't vacuum pack.
>>
paizuri with purple shirt tiddy monster from the dormeo commercial
>>
do research here: https://www.sleeplikethedead.com/

here's my anecdote: I got a cheap zinus full foam mattress, and my back pain got better however I get mild acne on one side of my body (side sleeper) because of the lack of airflow
>>
>>109833882
Problem with these is you can only really sleep on your back.
Sleeping on your side or your front you'll wake up feeling like you got hit by a truck
>>
>>109833709
>Are expensive mattresses a meme?
I don't know about that; but I went down a rabbit hole of researching fiberglass in mattresses. Yeah, fuck that. If I have to pay extra to avoid that shit, I will.
>>
>>109833709
I bought a $2k mattress once. Best purchase of my life. Regret getting rid of it due to having to move too far every day.
>>
>>109833709
Got a 200$ mattress into a new house and it's miles better than what several sofas at my mom's place felt like. Can't say anything about really expensive ones, tried some of 2000$ ones in a showroom and didn't feel much difference in that short time
>>
>>109834413
Yeah, it's impossible to tell in a showroom I found.
>>
It's like cars, they keep making them bigger and bigger and it's completely unnecessary and impractical.
8" pocket spring is what I like, the expensive part is getting it with natural materials instead of plastic, and even then I'm not convinced they don't sneak toxic things in there. The most important design feature is getting one that's fairly flat across the top, if your mattress is rounded on top that's limiting the area of the mattress you can use.
>>
>>109833709
The best purchases you can make are good mattress + good pillow bar not having food or shelter I guess
>>
>>109834358
This. I can't sleep on my back at all. I just wish my mattress had bluetooth
>>
>>109835156
while this is true mattress companies will use it as a sales tactic to get you to spend way more than you need to on a mattress. there are loads of very comfortable mattresses in the 200-500 dollar range.
>>
>>109835156
what constitutes a good pillow?
>>
The best thing to sleep on is latex, and mattresses are a meme. All you need are latex toppers in the thickness enough to support your fat ass.

I recommend something like:
2-3" firm base topper
3" medium/firm upper topper

Folding tatami mat.

Get the zipping enclosures for both, stack them up on your tatami mat and go to sleep.
>>
Go to the mattress store, test the fucking things then go back home and buy them online, they jack up the prices up to 200% in store for some reason, I got one online with in store pick-up and I was shocked by the sticker price in store.
>>
>>109833709
they are literally the physical manifestation of the princess and the pea literature with human cattle being the princess
>>
>>109836759

Everything is like this, prices are optimized for what a consumer is willing to pay, not the absolute margin. Anyone walking into a store is serious about buying one and they know it.
>>
>>109833709
ur mom is a mattress
>>
>>109838757
I usually just walk through the store to release as many farts as I can while they follow me around sniffing my farts

>b-but
Springs
>>
>>109833709
Those made of plastic surely are. Get something natural.
I sleep in a fancy, very large hammock for 4 years now and I have never been happier about sleep quality. All occasional sore neck/back/whatever when waking up gone as well.
>>
>>109838863
Springs are gay and give you cancer. Hybrid is the best mattress I ever had, but if I'm going cheap it'll always be foam. Modern foam is much better than old foam used to be also.
>>
>>109839555
Enjoy your broken back
>>
>>109840115
You live in a fantasy world. Springs break your back.
>>
>>109833709
>Are expensive mattresses a meme?
nope I have bought an 800 eurodollar mattress and it feels like heaven. will never go back to cheap shit.
people shouldn't cheap out on mattresses or office chairs, basically everything you use every day for your body.
>>
"Trying out" a mattress should mean sleeping in it, but even then it feels like nothing is ever comfortable for side sleeping. I've tried the full spectrum from literal concrete, to futons, to custom luxury hybrids. But I can't sleep on my back, recipe for sleep paralysis and bizarre lucid nightmares.
>>
>>109840149
maybe if you're a weak soifaggot
>>
I switched from a $1k mattress to a $50 thin one. It was supposed to be temporary but I prefer the cheap one. I'm old and have had back issues before but none with the cheap shit, I also rotate between sleeping on my back and both sides.
>>
>>109840965

It is kind of weird, I feel like this is less of a money thing and more of a finding something that fits you thing, which can all be done under $500.

For a time I was sleeping on an Ikea futon with one of those thinner foam style mattresses and it was legit glorious sleep.
>>
just get purple, its like a trampoline for sex
>>
i got a mattress that fit into a box that i could fit into my honda civic
it was pretty neat to be able to do that
then i cut up my old mattress that had springs n shit it and threw away all the soft parts but I didn't know how to get rid of the springs
so i borrowed my dad's truck and took the springs part to a nearby park and threw them in the lake.
>>
>>109833871

Price is largely irrelevant, stop using it as if it means anything.
Right now, I have four mattresses in total.
Dormeo for 2k, Magniflex for nearly 2k, Tempur for 1k and shitass Ikea that cost me like 100 bucks. They all perform similarly and I will be returning them all.

File: Orthopedic Couch.jpg (522 KB, 3500x2625)

I am also looking for a mattress that will finally cure my back pain. I have suffered from lower back and foot pain since my childhood, and I have tried a lot of mattresses of all kinds—from cheap €100 ones to expensive €800+ ones.
Neither of them was particularly good.

One time I slept on an "orthopedic" couch and it was the best sleep I've ever had.
My lower back was automatically stretched out and I finally had some pain relief. I felt very light the next morning and walked as if on clouds.
It was most likely a Bonnell spring or a wood frame with a hard, very fast-recoiling foam couch. (very similar to pic related)
Although i could only Sleep on my Back because my Shoulders wouldn't sink in at all, but it's probaly for the best anyway.

I never could replicate it with a mattress, no matter if it was foam or spring, nor hard or soft. And from what I understand now, the orthopedic couch has a different philosophy compared to what is sold, at least in Germany. The "orthopedic" couch lets your body do all the work, giving a hard base that forces your muscles to relax.
Most of the mattresses in Germany, even the ones tested by "independent" test journals, support your body in every position.
Which doesn't work at all if you have a skinny, light body with a prominent V-shape.

Has anybody had such problems and found a solution?
The idea of a cheap, stiff mattress with a good topper like>>109836296 said actually sounds reasonable.
>>
>>109843648
i doubt i had the same issues exactly but in some cases it's literally a matter of just doing specific stretching/muscle exercises separate from resting on your usual relatively firm mattress
>>
>>109833709
Not if the cost is for high density foam. Otherwise, yes.
>>
>all this bed technology exists
meanwhile, I get amazing sleep on the plainest 30 year old Twin-size spring mattress you could possibly fathom with a $6 foam mattress topper on it.
>>
>>109833709
yes, the thing that I suggest is that when you are in the store buying them always go one above in firmness to the one you like. The bed I have is actually firm but going extra firm seems like it would be hard but it won't be as you lay it longer and over time they will begin to soft/droop whatever. Also rotate the bed every year or half a year.
>>
>>109833709
I still have my mattress from college and sleep on it on the floor.

I've been sleeping on the same cheap single mattress that was bought for me when I was 13 for 15 years. It's all caved in where I lay but I sleep fine and wake up without a lick of pain. I should probably get a new one but I can't fathom what qualities would justify high price in a mattress. It's just a rectangle of plush springy material for you to park your carcass on.
>>
>>109843685
oh i've done alot of Physiotherapy and exercises since my Childhood, but it's only a very very light relief and also for a short time. And like it i said i've tried alot of Mattresses throughout the years of different kinds and different firmness. None of that really helped me.
The only saving grace was that "orthopedic" couch i slept on on my Holydays but i can't replicate it no matter what

There is no such thing as a $6 foam mattress topper. They start at $100 from china (and you know what they put in there) or $300 local.
>>
>>109833709
Needed a new mattress because princess was bitching, so we went around looking. We went into Sleep Number and holy fucking botnet dude. I liked their active cooling mattress because who like a hot bed. We started talking to the sales guy and he told us it sends our biometric data like thats a fucking feature anyone would be interested in. I laughed and said there is no fucking way I'm connected a fucking bed to my network and I'm not at all interested in tracking any biometric data, let alone sending that data out of my house. He said the air conditioner in the mattress literally will not turn on unless its connected to the internet.

Like seriously dude wtf. We have reached levels of spyware I thought impossible. We live in clown world.

I use futon in shape of standard mattress(so it fits in full bed frame) for about a year now. I sleep frequently on the side and got used to it. Front is no issue - same as back. Bonus point is - had to sleep on wooden table once when I was hiking lately and I didn't feel any discomfort, just business as usual. Downside is - my wife doesn't want to cuddle on my side of the bed.

>>
>>109833709
There are some expensive mattresses at my parent's place, organic coconut fiber memory filler yada yada in the kilobuck+ range.
Feels like they perform even worse than 100$ Ikea one at my place, as I slowly sink into these things as I sleep (probably thats what the "memory'2 is about) but why the fuck would you want that, it is completely retarded.
>>
>>109847638
Yeah, that's the memory foam. I don't like memory foam either for the same reason, but the point is it adapts to your form as you sleep, so if you don't move around too much in your sleep it's supposed to have adaptive optimal support-softness tradeoffs. In practice I find it to be less comfortable than ordinary foam, which is not as nice as hybrid.
>>
>>109843815

>>
>>109847638
they got the shitty soft ones. you need maxxium firmness for memory foam to not be shit. basically Tempur-Pedic is the only namebrand I can trust to blind buy for the density and firmness I'd expect. shame.

>>109840965
Firm is usually better than soft.
What you are paying for is often how padded it is, so how hard it is to bottom out.

>>109848422
The question is then: Will a mid range carpet cleaner be cheaper than a new mattress?
Most likely no, but its a fun tool

Carpet cleaner is also worse than a spray bottle, a drill brush, and the actual wet shop vac.

Anyone ever get a Murphy bed? I'm heavily considering it for space as an alternative to the Japanese futons like others said, but I'm worried you can't put a decent fucking mattress in them. Not one with a folding mattress, one that just goes up like pic related. I hate to waste like half the space in my room for a bed when I need space for exercise, projects, VR, etc.

>>109852797

They're not glued down, so you have to re-set the bed every day when you wake up if you want the extra space, don't you? Feels like the kind of thing that's only useful every now and again
>>
>>109833709
I sleep on a single wide tatami mat bought off of Amazon. It works perfectly fine and folding it up gives me more space in my room.

For the first entire year my back felt BETTER than sleeping on a mattress. After being gifted a U shaped full body pregnancy pillow however, my upper back and neck hurt like never before.

Mattresses are a meme, anything that isn't extremely firm and has your body in its natural alignment is a meme.
>>
>>109835156

It from putting pressure on the pons located in your brain stem. The pons controls paralysis during regular sleep to prevent you from acting out your dreams. Prolonged pressure can temporarily mess it up where it doesn’t turn off the paralysis and fully exit the dream state despite otherwise waking up so your in some hybrid dream / wake state where your kind of aware but unable to move

That's common when you have a dogshit mattress. You didn't need to go all the way to futon on floor, adding a mattress topper would have been sufficient to have the same effect. The first time I got a bad mattress I had no idea what was going on with my back, I thought I strained it by lifting some furniture poorly. Took me a month to realize it was not healing and it was far worse when I woke up, thus probably the mattress. It became so bad I would wake up in the middle of the night in intense pain before I figured it out though.
