Are CRTfags onto something?
>>109843043you can just crank your gamma on your oled if you want it to look like that, not sure why you would
poorfag cope thread
It is the combination of the light emitted by the Phosphors in the CRT with the Scanning Motion when outputting the Image, modern Post processing has tried to replicate this for years with odious motion blur to no avail, Lost Technology, Sad!No amount of Sino-Korean Hackfraudery can replicate it
>>109843152nothing will ever compete with getting the photons shot directly at you, sorry coping npcigger
>>109843043Always have been
>>109843282>at 60hz
>>109843291You need several thousand herz on the OLED to match what CRT looks like at 60hz.Also a ton of games are 60hz and always will be (2d indie)
I'm not lugging a fucking crt tv ever again also because of you faggots the market is destroyed
>>109843043Well, it's expected since it's 995 more expensive.
>>109843299the point is that you wouldn't run a CRT at 60Hz anyway, while with other tech the response rate is not exactly tied to refresh rate>games are 60hzwe're talking about motion blur on displays
>>109843975>the point is that you wouldn't run a CRT at 60Hz anyway,I do constantly, either because the game is 60hz native or doesn't run much faster than 60fps. >while with other tech the response rate is not exactly tied to refresh rateWhat?>we're talking about motion blur on displaysYes? But if your content is 60hz the CRT must be 60hz too or double-images will appear in motion.
>>109844069nah fuck a CRT at 60Hz, i'll take tearing or doubling or whatever, the flickering is not worth it
>>109843043>le CRTs have good contrastThey literally have GREY screens, they can't even display anything close to black by definition
>>109843299Enter:Electron beam simulationBlack frame insertion
>>109844119pulsar already fixed that shit
crt tv seems like the option right now since it has speakers and can be manually fixed /changed to your liking. Only downside to crt monitors is you have to find a way to get audio out if it doesnt already have speakers
>>109844259>crt tv seems like the option right now since it has speakersIt often only has one.>Only downside to crt monitors is you have to find a way to get audio out if it doesnt already have That's not... the only downside. Most modern monitors don't have speakers built in as far as I know (or nobody uses them). Why is getting audio out a challenge?Real talk, you some kind of an autist?
>>109844296>are you an autistyes, I often overthink alot of issues with electronics as ive wasted money testing things out only for them not to work the way I thought or need additional things to work
>>109844333>overthink alot of issues with electronicsmost of them are Jewish tricks and/or marketing
>>109843043People just don't like to admit their $1000 TV is worse than technology that hasn't been improved on in 20 years. Plasma were good as well. There's no interest in a quality product these days.
>>109844349based on what was said, i'd say it's more to do with anon's lack of knowledge of AV stuff + autism
>>109844359yes and no, I have moderate knowledge of crt's just never sure with the audio part as I havent looked to much into it or lose interest over time. but im thinking about having like 1-2 monitors for retro and modern gaming soon
>>109844375the audio you'll have to get from a sound card.
>crt audioyou mean single channel white RCA jacks? or was it yellow? been a while. women are bad enough, why would you choose to listen to monotone audio?
>>109843143This.The CRT is probably just tuned out of the box like the equivalent of the OLED's "vivid" setting where the contrast and saturation is boosted to high heaven to make it eye-catching, but garish and inaccurate.
>>109843043Away from window (no glare) versus near the window (glare).
>>109844431OLEDs don't give a shit about glareyou want glossy for OLED
>>109843043OLED has better colors than CRT (i have both), but CRT has better motion clarity OLEDs and anything else, which is good and bad.60FPS content on CRTs is incredible, 30 FPS is eh, and anything under it is utter trash.
>>109844486>30 FPS is eh30 fps at 60hz is double image nightmare
>>109844439>you want glossy for OLED>posts examples of why you don't want glossy for OLED
>>109844502Yes, but it's still somehow bearable despite not being ideal and taking advantage of the CRT motion clarity.playstation FMVs are pain.
>>109844505>literally shows glossy OLED looking better in light than matte or do you think 3rd on the middle image looks better than 1st or 4th?
>>109844505it literally shows glossy has much better blacks. The camera/lighting reflecting is a non issue as you control the lighting in your room in use.
>>109844551>I live in a basement, how did you know??lmao
>>109844563it's called curtains, anon
Let me know when I can get a 32" widescreen CRT that can fit on a modest computer table with space left for a keyboard.
>>10984457532" is too small
>>109844575anon, I was literally thinking about moving my 72" to my desk so I could have four 720p displays at about the same size.
>>109844526>or do you think 3rd on the middle image looks better than 1st or 4th?considering the fucking reflection is obnoxiously visible yes the matte looks a lot betterI don't need a fucking mirror to see if people are sneaking up on me when I'm trying to look at something on the screen
>>109844577>for you
>muh motion clarityThis is fucking pathetic. Muh motion clarity is not worth sacrificing literally every other aspect of a television that CRTs gets completely mogged at. It's not 2000 anymore. Get over it. Shit tech, no one misses it.
>>109844582>reflection is obnoxiously visibleBecause it's a camera. You're focusing on the shit moving on the screen with your eyes, not the reflection, different focal lengths, the reflection will just be a smudge.
>>109844599>Muh motion clarity is not worth sacrificing literally every other aspect of a television that CRTs gets completely mogged at.It definitely is, ask any CRT fag.
>>109844599If your screen can run the blur busters scan simulator yes, you get the best of both worlds. But if not, it's trash, specially for 2D sidescrolling where the screen will just do some cope fringing.
>>109844599If CRTs got 'completely mogged' you might have some argument, but that's not even true. Motion clarity is the most important aspect of a display. It's been over 20 years since CRTs were developed anyway, the technology would have been improved in the other areas you care about.
>>109844627>Motion clarity is the most important aspect of a displayIt's literally not, it's just the only criteria by which you can even attempt to defend CRTs so you assert it's most important. You're working backwards, don't even fucking deny it.Why can't you fucks be like antique car collectors or something and just admit that you like antiquated technology for its own sake? Why do you have to make fallacious arguments about how it's somehow better than modern technology? It's fucking delusional and makes your fandom look deranged.
>>109843043A sony trinitron cost $1000 in 90's money
>>109844627>Motion claritydon't bother, these retards can't understand the speed of light, much less pixel density
>>109844627Instead we develop shit like pulsar or beam simulation to overcome the shortcomings of modern display instead of trying to fix a dozen things on an old tech that had far more downsides than upsides
>>109844640It is pretty good at displaying 240p stuff well too.But i personally got it because was cheap as fuck on a thrift store, and it is significantly better than the office LCD screens i can actually afford.
>>109844661Nobody is saying CRTs aren't good for /vr/. Literally /vr/ has a CRT general.
>>109844666This. They're exceptional at shit resolutions. You want to go one step further? Old school projectors!
>>109844675You mean CRT projectors? Fuck yeah.
>>109844677Yep! The OG 55" was basically a home theatre in the 90s. Cost more than a Honda. Surround sound wasn't even a thing yet, stereo was the new hotness.
>>109844682>Surround soundSurround sound is really fucking old actually.
CRTs are quite complicated devices that are difficult to manufacture and very expensive to ship. You wouldn’t be able to afford a CRT with modern high end specs.
>>109844695>CRTs are quite complicated devicesDepends what you compare, you can make a monochrome CRT at home.
>>109844693not in the home environment. Gladiator was one of the first films to really advertise it, and the opening scenes probably sold more units out of Circuit City and Best Buy than any Crutchfield mag at the time did, even if cost twice as much after 'in home installation'.
>>109844682>>109844693It's interesting that snes "accidentally (tm)" supports dolby encoding, and some games "accidentally" use it.
>>109844717unless it's an exploit that's been sitting around (totally possible) probably just some shit they sold the naming or 'product' to. Nintendo has a history of buying shit thinking it will work and it goes nowhere, but companies like Dolby that equally don't make any sense also get a lot of outside funding working on wonky shit.

>>109844753Kutaragi san did some wave inverting that can be used to encode dolby surround. All you need to do to use the rear speaker is to send the same sound on the two speakers, but with the wave inverted, an it will use math to send it to the rear speaker. And it has some registers that do it on the SPC chip.
>>109844756The sound was good in that game, but the game was fucking bullshit. Kill dinos, collect eggs, dodge shit. I probably put like 80 hours into that shit after watching the movie at the drive-in. It's probably a great game, but if you're marketing surround sound to 12 year olds on a shitty game you're more than likely doing cocaine, money laundering, and banging hookers. >>109844767I know that stuff, I was alluding to the DoD shit they were doing. and CIA expat program when Japan was worth a shit.

>>109844860...and even then not officially, so games were even more rare.
>>109844860>>109844862Arab?
i just buyded a PG32UCDM
>>109844919What. There's more places in the world than the US and Arabian countries.
>>109844930The other one I was thinking of is Brazil. China was really late to the 'game'. Not a lot of other countries in that era that had a bunch of money laying around because they were collapsing.
>>109843043Did we actually lose the tech to make CRTs anymore? What are some other tech that we lost?
>>109844950It's just blown glass and a ray tube. The problem is fagility and chemicals/OSHA shit. Cost more than they're worth to make.
>>109843043The OLED in that picture is more color accurate. Look at the skin tones and hair, not the dark background. The contrast on that CRT is turned too high. Adjust it and they'll look similar.I'd say the two have similar image quality. The CRT wins on motion artifacts, and has less weird smearing of dark gray objects moving against a black background. The OLED wins at sharpness, and has less trail on bright objects moving against a black background. The CRT is also more resistant to burn-in, while the OLED is far lighter and flatter for its picture size.
>>109844938>Not a lot of other countries in that era that had a bunch of money laying around because they were collapsing. If you mean ex-Soviet satellites, that's quite a meme and no way universal, really depended where you lived too I guess. Many people had plenty of money, specially saved up in other currencies, just before the fall of the curtain, it was a bit harder to buy things officially. I had an Amiga and IBM PC for example in the late 80's already and many 8bits like Amstrad CPC and 8bit clone consoles. By the time the N64 released officially in the rest of the world, it wasn't weird at all for a middle class family here to own a PC, a big house, several cars, etc. N64 never got an official release here, Nintendo didn't really sell here until the GBA and GameCube, outside of clone NES and SNES systems before that or official imports from abroad, but not retail. Probably because cartage N64 games were more expensive to profit for retailer, PS1s hit retail quite early though and as someone with several computers and a PS1, I didn't really have interest in N64, only later via emulation.
>>109843043The only thing CRTfags are into is herniated disks. A CRT anywhere close to the size of a modern OLED would weigh like 500lbs. No thanks.
>>109844974That's more of a result of Sony tech in general. That's why we got VHS and CDs, and then DVDs. You already had the infrastructure, so local versions were more than likely pirated and translated and some scheme etc. Lot of stories about that in product distribution. That's why I mentioned Brazil lol, they have their own library of video games from back then that were all home brewed and most people don't know about them.
>>109844995Yeah, piracy was always widespread here. But I don't remember PS1 piracy that much, at least not in the beginning, even though I remember doing the disc swap method but that was probably later when CD burners were more common here, very late 90's.
>>109845008 (me)Otherwise finding bootlegs on the cheap at car boot sales was very common for any type of media.
>>109844627The sheer fact that if that was the case nobody would have switched to LCD from CRT. In fact the most important aspect of a display is it's price, then it's power consumption and size/weight. After that comes display specifications the number one being resolution and color. After that it's pixel response times and after that it's motion clarity. For over a 2 decades now VA panels had incredibly dogshit black smear at all refresh rates. And they continue to be produced. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAwFpAMWhwcIPS has it's own issues obviously but it's way better then VA for general use. If anyone actually cared about CRTs they'd still be around but it's such a niche thing this "motion clarity" that not even the most autistic of movie producers care about it. You have these directors shooting with half a million dollar Imax Cameras per camera that only hold 3 minutes of film and sound like lawn mowers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UU3WMfQOjes so everything has to be ADRed in after they shoot them. The only thing CRTs are good for a FPS games and old pixel platfomers like Mega Man. It's so niche that there isn't even a market to open a single factory to produce new CRTs in China out of all places.
>>109843043No. On OLED you can play at high resolutions, high framerates with high color volume (HDR), you don't have to pick one or the other.CRTs being better than modern displays is pure, distilled copium. The analog nature of the entire signal path is proof enough they can't compete with a modern display on the accuracy of a given metric.
>>109844957Nobody wants a basic bitch tube (outside of zoomers for reddit), we want F520 quality hardware, tubes and circuitry, with all the features.
>>109844957You seem to contradict yourself. The phosphors, used proprietary formulations, many of which are just... gone now. You're underestimating the difficulty in producing aperture grilles as well, the metallurgical requirements alone. The craftmanship is just gone, all the veterans are retired / dying.
