You need several thousand herz on the OLED to match what CRT looks like at 60hz.
Also a ton of games are 60hz and always will be (2d indie)

I'm not lugging a fucking crt tv ever again also because of you faggots the market is destroyed

the point is that you wouldn't run a CRT at 60Hz anyway, while with other tech the response rate is not exactly tied to refresh rate

I do constantly, either because the game is 60hz native or doesn't run much faster than 60fps.

What?

Yes? But if your content is 60hz the CRT must be 60hz too or double-images will appear in motion.

That's not... the only downside. Most modern monitors don't have speakers built in as far as I know (or nobody uses them). Why is getting audio out a challenge?

If CRTs got 'completely mogged' you might have some argument, but that's not even true. Motion clarity is the most important aspect of a display. It's been over 20 years since CRTs were developed anyway, the technology would have been improved in the other areas you care about.
>>
>>109844627
>Motion clarity is the most important aspect of a display
It's literally not, it's just the only criteria by which you can even attempt to defend CRTs so you assert it's most important. You're working backwards, don't even fucking deny it.

Why can't you fucks be like antique car collectors or something and just admit that you like antiquated technology for its own sake? Why do you have to make fallacious arguments about how it's somehow better than modern technology? It's fucking delusional and makes your fandom look deranged.

CRTs are quite complicated devices that are difficult to manufacture and very expensive to ship. You wouldn’t be able to afford a CRT with modern high end specs.

Depends what you compare, you can make a monochrome CRT at home.
>>
>>109844693
not in the home environment. Gladiator was one of the first films to really advertise it, and the opening scenes probably sold more units out of Circuit City and Best Buy than any Crutchfield mag at the time did, even if cost twice as much after 'in home installation'.

Kutaragi san did some wave inverting that can be used to encode dolby surround.
All you need to do to use the rear speaker is to send the same sound on the two speakers, but with the wave inverted, an it will use math to send it to the rear speaker.
And it has some registers that do it on the SPC chip.

The sound was good in that game, but the game was fucking bullshit. Kill dinos, collect eggs, dodge shit. I probably put like 80 hours into that shit after watching the movie at the drive-in. The OLED in that picture is more color accurate. Look at the skin tones and hair, not the dark background. The contrast on that CRT is turned too high. Adjust it and they'll look similar.

I'd say the two have similar image quality. The CRT wins on motion artifacts, and has less weird smearing of dark gray objects moving against a black background. The OLED wins at sharpness, and has less trail on bright objects moving against a black background. The CRT is also more resistant to burn-in, while the OLED is far lighter and flatter for its picture size.
>>
>>109844938
>Not a lot of other countries in that era that had a bunch of money laying around because they were collapsing.
If you mean ex-Soviet satellites, that's quite a meme and no way universal, really depended where you lived too I guess.
Many people had plenty of money, specially saved up in other currencies, just before the fall of the curtain, it was a bit harder to buy things officially. I had an Amiga and IBM PC for example in the late 80's already and many 8bits like Amstrad CPC and 8bit clone consoles.
By the time the N64 released officially in the rest of the world, it wasn't weird at all for a middle class family here to own a PC, a big house, several cars, etc. N64 never got an official release here, Nintendo didn't really sell here until the GBA and GameCube, outside of clone NES and SNES systems before that or official imports from abroad, but not retail. Probably because cartage N64 games were more expensive to profit for retailer, PS1s hit retail quite early though and as someone with several computers and a PS1, I didn't really have interest in N64, only later via emulation.
>>
>>109843043
The only thing CRTfags are into is herniated disks. A CRT anywhere close to the size of a modern OLED would weigh like 500lbs. No thanks.
>>
>>109844974
That's more of a result of Sony tech in general. That's why we got VHS and CDs, and then DVDs. You already had the infrastructure, so local versions were more than likely pirated and translated and some scheme etc. Lot of stories about that in product distribution. That's why I mentioned Brazil lol, they have their own library of video games from back then that were all home brewed and most people don't know about them.
>>
>>109844995
Yeah, piracy was always widespread here. But I don't remember PS1 piracy that much, at least not in the beginning, even though I remember doing the disc swap method but that was probably later when CD burners were more common here, very late 90's.

The sheer fact that if that was the case nobody would have switched to LCD from CRT.

In fact the most important aspect of a display is it's price, then it's power consumption and size/weight. After that comes display specifications the number one being resolution and color. After that it's pixel response times and after that it's motion clarity.

For over a 2 decades now VA panels had incredibly dogshit black smear at all refresh rates. And they continue to be produced.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAwFpAMWhwc

IPS has it's own issues obviously but it's way better then VA for general use.

If anyone actually cared about CRTs they'd still be around but it's such a niche thing this "motion clarity" that not even the most autistic of movie producers care about it. You have these directors shooting with half a million dollar Imax Cameras per camera that only hold 3 minutes of film and sound like lawn mowers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UU3WMfQOjes so everything has to be ADRed in after they shoot them.

The only thing CRTs are good for a FPS games and old pixel platfomers like Mega Man. It's so niche that there isn't even a market to open a single factory to produce new CRTs in China out of all places.
>>
>>109843043
No. On OLED you can play at high resolutions, high framerates with high color volume (HDR), you don't have to pick one or the other.

CRTs being better than modern displays is pure, distilled copium. The analog nature of the entire signal path is proof enough they can't compete with a modern display on the accuracy of a given metric.
