You're stuck in the past. There's lots of players that are better now for Android TV.

Jellyfin is a holdover from Emby which is a holdover from XBMC. Obviously there's a big rewrite and rewiring going on, but nevertheless the core scope of Jellyfin is based on choices made in 2004. It's interesting to see a media server being built from scratch, that's using an actual database rather than a gigantic SQLite blob.
>>
>>109861649
Emby did not come from XBMC; it originated as Media Browser, a third-party plugin for Windows Media Center. Google before you type shit like that.
>>
>>109861660
Ah, you get my point regardless. It's nice to see someone trying to make something unique, rather than stacking new shit on top of legacy code.
>>
>>109861667
>It's nice to see someone trying to make something unique, rather than stacking new shit on top of legacy code.
Emby was open source and then it became closed. Jellyfin was just a fork to preserve that code and improve it for the community, by the community. There's nothing wrong with that. The legacy code is gradually being replaced with modern code.
>>
>>109861678
Yes, and setting aside the Ship of Theseus thing, I think it's nice that someone is trying something different as well.
>>
>>109861694
>I think it's nice that someone is trying something different as well.
I agree, but I have yet to see an original open source project that is compelling enough for people to drop Jellyfin or Plex for it. They all eventually become abandonware.
>>
>>109861224
I need a player that lets me modify subtitle size and screen size which only MX Player does well enough to my liking. Tried other players but they do not have these features implemented well
>>
>>109861717
>I need a player that lets me modify subtitle size and screen size
Nova does this.
>>
>>109861722
I tried Nova, subtitle size does not get reduced enough for my liking. Also doesn't remember last point of media that was played. UX also aint that good. It is however my primary alternative to MX Player just to play EAC3 files but its an inferior alternative nonetheless

MX Player almost has everything for me ec
>>
>>109861736
>MX Player almost has everything for me ec
I used to think that but Jellyfin + any of the clients just works for me on everything.
>>
>>109861741
Tried Jellyfin previously and its too much of a hassle. SMB + MX Player just werks
>>
>>109861758
>SMB + MX Player just werks
What's your exact setup? Samba folder from a Linux box over local network to your Android TV box with MX?
>>
>>109861769
Created shared folder in my laptop where all my torrent downloads are stored. In my android TV box I installed and CX Explorer both as file manager and to configure SMB. Intalled MX Player, Nova & VLC for media files in Android TV box. That pretty much lets me play any video file I want on my TV, I just don't get the netflix like cataloging

I also installed a torrent client in my android tv in case my laptop goes bust and I have to watch something. Had to rely on this a few times
>>
>>109861667
jellyfin is a fork of emby, which is just a rebranding of media browser (Media Browser, M B, emby, get it?). the codebase goes back nearly 25 years, it's even older than xbmc/kodi, or about the same age, i haven't looked up the dates in a while, point is jellyfin isn't new
>>
>jellyfin is written in c#
>alternatives are all vibe slop
im never switching from kodi

>>109861811
>Created shared folder in my laptop where all my torrent downloads are stored. In my android TV box I installed and CX Explorer both as file manager and to configure SMB. Intalled MX Player, Nova & VLC for media files in Android TV box.
Sounds like too many steps when you can just use Kodi or Nova to connect directly to the shared folder without CX. What does MX do that you still use that dinosaur app?
>>
>>109861535
>Jellyfin-compatible media server that brings Stremio add-ons, local files, and WebDAV sources together under one roof
holy shit, jellyfin is dead
>>
>>109862953
yet nobody uses that shit and jellyfin is more popular than ever lol
>>
>>109861989
>Sounds like too many steps when you can just use Kodi or Nova to connect directly to the shared folder without CX
Kodi is just bloat that has no use to me.

Nova technically would be the only installation needed. I prefer CX Explorer UI/UX, its especially useful to manage subtitle files between android tv storage and my laptop shared folder. I als0 prefer MX Player for playing the video files
>>
>>109863239
>I prefer CX Explorer UI/UX, its especially useful to manage subtitle files between android tv storage and my laptop shared folder.
Lol what kind of shitty files do you get that you need to manage subs? Many players today just download the subs for you while the video is playing.
>>
>>109863257
>Many players today just download the subs for you while the video is playing.
Doesn't always work especially with older or niche content. I have to manually download it and place it at a location that my player can load it
>>
>>109863257
this is how you end up with hindi subs automatched to your stuff
>>
>>109863451
>I have to manually download it and place it at a location that my player can load it
why can't you do this faster on your PC where the files are as soon as you download the movie?
>>109863561
>this is how you end up with hindi subs automatched to your stuff
Never had this happen to me. It just shows me all the eng subs from sub sites. Everything is already organized by the users and staff. If you have good files, the subs are already there.
>>
>>109863586
>If you have good files
but how do you know? *shaking you by the collar* HOW DO YOU KNOW? YOU DON'T THAT's HOW *smack*
>>
>>109863586
>why can't you do this faster on your PC where the files are as soon as you download the movie?
The player cannot access files outside of the android TV storage. So I need to move the file from my laptop to android tv storage using CX Explorer

I use private trackers. They show me all the mediainfo, including the subs before I download anything from them.

<-- see?
>>

>The player cannot access files outside of the android TV storage. So I need to move the file from my laptop to android tv storage using CX Explorer
Holy shit that sounds retarded.
I just stream the file from my desktop to my TV using Jellyfin. How tiresome. Why do you do this to yourself?
>>
>>109863816
Jellyfin is too much of a hassle to setup and has been pretty glitchy

My way just werks and is way too smooth for me
