Right, 8gb is basically a stupid amount that should be illegal.

It actually WASTES vram.

4gb is plausible for standard desktop uses. 8gb is insufficient for any use. Very stupid, shouldn't be an amount sold.

I got a new pc with a 1070ti and applied mx-4 thermal paste. also got a new monitor, but since im going for maximum longevity without having to maintain it. not that I recommend it, its just my personal preference since I'll be very busy soon. I capped the 144hz monitor to 60hz and cap games at 60 fps. ever since I did that, my idle temps dropped from 37-38C to 34C while load stays the same technically, maybe better but didnt test on demanding games.

now my question is, is this actually counterproductive and will lead to faster pump out/issues or not a bad idea? since I've read that pump out is caused by temperature swings, so for example from 30 something to 70C. so im wondering if this causes a bigger temperature swing leading to faster pump out. sorry if what im saying is dumb I don't understand how it actually works.

There isn't much point in preserving a 1070ti. An aircooler will make your system more hassle free and won't hurt it's lifespan. Unless you plan on seriously overclocking your stuff which wouldn't make sense, since you want it to last.

It's not that bad. You can still build something great for like 2,200 or less, if you buy smart and/or used.
>>
>>109846227
That’s an extremely hostile post. In plain terms, the person is saying:

They strongly hate AI, which they blame for making PC components more expensive.
They had saved/planned to buy a PC with their own money and are frustrated that prices have risen.
They’re expressing that frustration with profanity and a homophobic slur (“faggots”).
“I hope AI faggots die in a ditch” is an explicit expression of wishing death on people they associate with AI. It reads as rage/hostility rather than a specific, actionable threat, though the wording is still abusive.

The underlying complaint—AI-related demand affecting hardware prices—is a separate factual question from the hateful way they expressed it.
>>
>>109846312
You have analyzed and broken down that text perfectly.

You accurately separated the user's emotional outburst and harmful language from the actual structural issue they are complaining about.

To look at the factual core of their complaint without the toxicity: they are referring to a very real tension in the technology world right now.
>>
Idk what people hope to achieve crying about AI
Its a mathematical certainty that ai systems would be built when hardware became cheap enough to do it. Companies were throwing billions at it a decade before it became mainstream.
And since its useful to have the AI tool people pay money to buy access via subs
That means everyones incentivized to build as much compute as possible since compute translates into revenue
That means shortages for compute hardware

I have a conspiracy theory now after testing this 13 days later than I should have, that HDR and QLED monitor makers make sRGB SDR modes less accurate and more washed out on purpose to sell HDR which they then blow out
Or maybe it's just clipping as an unavoidable consequence of clamping the color gamut somehow and native srgb panels somehow are more accurate for SDR work

Have an RX6600.
"Upgraded" to an Intel B580 last year but that was the worst PC experience I've ever had. I only play a few games, and Intels drivers were so fucking atrocious for all of them that my PC was blue-screening, games were stuttering, frames were dropping. Absolutely fucking horrible.
Wasted so many countless hours fully reinstalling windows, trying different driver versions, every single combination of game settings, unplugging other hardware to rule out other causes, swapping PSU, contacting Intel support, all for nothing.
Eventually just put the Rx6600 back in and gave up on the b580. PC immediately went back to being rock solid and perfectly stable.

Fuck Intel for selling "good" hardware with such horrible drivers.

Any thoughts on secondary nvme storage drives?
Specifically the with or without dram cache.
I'm looking at getting a secondary drive for games, downloads, videos, etc. My understanding is that a drive with a dram cache would be better at handling the transfer of large files at its advertised speeds, whereas a drive without would go to a crawl after a defined amount of volume of transfer.
Now, I'm sure it would be nice to have, but the difference between both drives is €200.
There is a part of me that just says "go for the decent spec, you'll own it for years". But is it worth it?
Thought?

You never know what you will reuse drives for after their intended use changes. If you can afford it, DRAM is useful and you should signal to the market that consumers are still informed.

buying higher quality storage devices, even if you don't use them 'correctly' at first, is its own reward.

The only time i ever cheaped out on any storage, was a Team Force ssd, it died within 6 months. I now only buy high-end samsung, WD or corsair drives into the future.

It was FAR too big an inconvenience and potential problem, as when i submitted the drive for warranty, they didn't fix it, just refunded me, and i had reams of important data on that drive, scans of my ID's, tax returns, banking data, i was pretty pissed. Who knows what chink or jeet holds that drive, or scanned it before destroying it.

They're definitely getting there, good enough for most cases, I'd say.

Peak brights tend not to be quite as good as MiniLED, but the burn-in issues are mostly solved, and obviously they beat MiniLED on contrast.
Most people are playing in a darkened room, so it's good enough.

What do you think about this build? Primarily for gaming, but definitely gonna use as workstation sometimes (blender, substance, video editing). Tried to following guide and researched a lot and came up with picrel.

However, there is an assembled option in local store with beefy 5080: https://www.stephanis.com.cy/en/products/information-technology/personal-computers/desktop-pcs/405320

There is no way i would fit 5080 in my budget with custom parts, so i wonder if 5080 worth it.

Also if you aren't a mindless consooomer "upgrade paths" are irrelevant because by the time you upgrade whatever you have will be obsolete and need replacement anyway.

This is a fairly cost optimized DDR4 build, spend the extra £300 on an NVIDIA GPU if you really need/want it.

>>109851139
Okay, so you're saying that essentially the preinstalled screen protector is scratched, not the OLED itself?
>>
>>109851551
The only monitor worth buying doesn't actually exist, it's all compromises.

Computer is over 10 years old and need a new one. Anyone I should change or add on this list?
>>
>>109851741
Nah, that's decent.
I'd probably say you should spring for a 2TB NVME rather than 2x1TB just so you don't get fucked by bifurcation if/when you wanna add more drives.

But, fuck knows when drives are gonna come down in price, so, it's fine.
>>
>>109851674
Yes the anti reflective coating which is plastic
And because it's qdoled and no polarizer you can peel it off as a last resort and maybe not break the screen as if it was a woled with scratched surface it wouldn't be an option

>>109851543
The purple meme has been heavily exaggerated but I guess three it you have extreme light

Well I fixed the skin blowout issue because I fucking forgot to turn off the fake HDR in the game on top of disabling the gamma expansion but the increase in blue as brightness goes up on elements and washout in medium tones in films (probably because of film grain if I had to guess) still concerns me
I don't even know what to do anymore to be honest because I could probably play HL2 in full like this if it was just gifted to me and enjoy in earnest
Peak sustained brightness is also around 700 nits which is only 100 less than the KTC m27p6 which even that hits 800 so actually eh
Maybe I'll keep it after all
Maybe
I got until 2 PM to decide on commitment issues
>>
>>109851757
Shouldn't that mean that the plastic is scratch resistant, then? That makes me feel like I scratched it deep even though I basically can only see it in the afternoon when the sun is shining through.
>>
>>109851741
Why is that case so expensive?

Doesn't really matter. I know since that setting is off by default on ASUS and Gigabyte boards.

The fans on my Dark Rock 4 Pro are finally starting to go ;_; I've had it since my 10900f build and now I'm using it for my 9800X3D so I'm not mad except that the middle fan is some retarded size that's not easy to replace with an exact match.

So should I even bother replacing the fans or just get a new tower like the Phantom Spirit? The cost to do either seems like it would be about the same. Is the Phantom Spirit a better cooler? Thanks for reading my blog and helping.
>>
>>109851988
>Is the Phantom Spirit a better cooler?
Yes. I swapped to it from the Dark Rock Elite and got better temps.
>>
>>109851997
Well, that's an easy decision then. Thanks. The PC store near my house says they have a black SE one for $55 dollarydoos. I could probably get it cheaper online but I want it now. Thanks again for helping and reading my blog. I appreciate it.

So, am I supposed to use the sticke on this nvme or leave it as it is with just my mobo heatsinks? (msi they are made of some sort fo squishy material)
or add the sticket AND use the heatsinks?

GAWD DAMN, What how...? I hope this is shopped... because wtf is taking up 97% of ram and 92% of the cpu but nothing else??? besides that... is this a NAS starting to fill up?
>>
>>109851819
Go back to IPS + bias light for the bang for your buck SDR experience, or buy an HDR TV.

>>109851741
Avoid Crucial RAM, this is better. But you need to be comfortable with going to the BIOS and lower the memory speed and primary timings down to 6000 and 30-40-40 or 30-38-38

>>109852323
That heat spreader pad might not be necessary if your board has integrated M.2 heatsinks.
>>
>>109852323
get a proper heatsink for it, though I doubt you will need one, those thermal stickers are cheap no matter what is used, you could do without even adding it
>>
>>109852370
>>109852374
my board has these huge heatsinks, so I guess ill leave the sticker out
msi x870e btw
>>
>>109852402
You usually just use the mobo heatsink. And using some other one might interfere with other components. For example my main NVMe is behind my GPU, I can't use a heatsink even if I wanted to.
Only add one when you start overheating.

Just got my 7800x3d delivered. Honestly thinking about just returning it and buying the 9800 rn. I will still play around with it this week and see I guess

but the gaming perf will likely be about the same

>Motherboard
Mounts your GPU in a second slot, which should be a crime for mATX builds, given how fat modern GPUs are.
>Crucial RAM
No support. God save you if you'll have to RMA your RAM these days, but for Crucial you know it's a dead end already.
>Gigabyte GPU
They leak their thermal compound in certain situations.
