Before that, deepmind was trying to spam the Alpha* platform to find a commercial angle but failed to do so, despite their tech actually being nice unlike the llm garbage. That's not tech failure or use-case failure, but pure commercial retardation. The problem is of course that the nature of the commercial retardation is to try to nurture a solution in search of a problem, rather than letting the A team work on a problem to find a solution. They're again doing it backward with the reorg, now it's "we also do language models" because that's the trend, not because it's useful.

Google Brain is, if we stretch the shit out of the definition, as obviously gemini is a total joke. The reason they had to merge google brain and deepmind in the first place was because google brain was a laughing stock, while deepmind was deeply scientifically and technically skilled. Yet, they let the google brain people manage everything, not the deepmind people, post-merge. Post-merge deepmind obviously counts as SF anyway.
