Why not just demand more work instead of layoffs? Every year we plan with PMs and they share a gorillion initiatives with us that get prioritised and dropped if the teams' bandwidth is not enough so its not like there's a shortage of shit to do from business side. Just ask more, nigga.

If anything, the most important thing I've learned from my current job is that "dogfooding" is the most important thing to any system. None of it will work if people who design it don't use it, let alone know how the client would or will use itl.I work at an air base, and I know nothing about air doctrine. I learned a bit, but then the engineers designing the things I support don't support that. That, everytime, is what creates friction. You don't need to eat dog food to make dog food, but it's better if you know what a dog is and what might constitute food.

The candidates we keep interviewing is giving me a false sense of confidence for when I'll finally feel ready to start interviewing myself. Interviewed 3 this week and none could do the simplest of coding questions. This is for big tech btwOf course, when I go to interview they'll give me a DP program or something
>>109854113LolLmao evenLiterally (and it's been proven before) businesses perform better without you than with you.
>>109854274I can do hard DPs in 5 minutes tops with my eyes close, because I largely work in bioinformatics which uses DP a lot, so by coincidence that's actually what I do every day and thus I'm extremely good at it by average dev standards. But like you say, it's super confusing being involved in hiring because you interview hundreds of people whom you don't understand how they even made it through an HR screen, let alone a tech conversational screen, before getting to proper tech evaluation. Yet when you do job applications, you don't even get interviews in 99.5%+ of cases, and when you do, you get some bullshit questions that you still get at least 90% right, and it's not enough somehow. Then you start talking with your company's customers and interact with THEIR tech staff because they're your main contact point. 20 years+ of exp, wouldn't be able to fizzbuzz. How in the absolute fuck.
>>109854292Without what, an architect? a lead? a manager? all three? without someone who stops or minimise other teams "encroaching on your software's designa and time" in general?
>>109854313All three. In fact I have never seen (even in my FAGMAN days) an actual "architect", but I have talked to some and they're always total cretins that are about as relevant as "head of diversity" and shit like that. Leads and managers are totally interchangeable in practice even though in theory they are not. In theory you are right and this roles are in fact extremely valuable. The problem is nobody who is in that position actually does their job. I have only ever seen 2 profiles: the politician, who will deliberately prevent teams from communicating critical information, then when asked why things are not working they'll point fingers downstream, then they'll make retarded decisions and when employees ask wtf, they'll point fingers at upstream (who didn't even know what's happening at all). And the coaster, who simply nods and grins at everything everytime in all directions, not helping in any way but always promising to help. And like I mentioned, leads never lead, they just push down what management asks and encroach on management duties and shit.
Anyone struggles to keep their power level in check due to few IRL interactions and being on 4chin too much? I am afraid I may accidentally blame the jews or something during a lunch break.
>>109851657Because the system is fundamentally flawed and nobody has any idea how long anything will take, especially across a large sample size of different tasks. The best system the middle management apparatus has been able to come up with is a combination of getting people to guess the time to do things they don't understand how to do yet, and then asking stupid questions with a facial expression like picrel when actuals exceed estimates.>how gould this habben?????Only to run into the same situation every subsequent quarter. You see, when you have such a highly effective system, you can't simply ask people to do more work than there is time for[Thinking mode activated]You see I have all these numbers I made up and it says right here we can't do more, if we could then that would mean the estimates don't make any sense, so then why did we estimate them in the first place. Wait, let me rethink this. I know the estimates are right. Therefore we can't do more work. Yes, that's the only logical conclusion.
>>109854216>we need to bring decisions closer to the engineersThey tried this at my job. Nothing screams>we are incompetent and don't know what to do, so do our work for us, take responsibility for it while we claim the credit and reap the rewardsmore than this
>>109854274>Of course, when I go to interview they'll give me a DP program or somethingYou'll be forced to write an entire LLM in 15 minutes and it has be perfectly optimized, no mistakes. If you can't do that they'll just hire another Indian.
>>109854574Not him but I can unironically do this. Literally my entire education (including PhD) and career (including FAGMAN) centered around this kind of thing. Can't even get an HR screen out of big AI corps out of this, though, they exclusively hire scammers who have never really worked in this field for some fucking reason.

>already got a new job>just got a rejection email from a job I applied to 8 months agothis definitely should be illegal
>>109861466i don't get it, what would you have expected as a response if he was only genuinely looking for the replacement instead of compliments?
>>109852946if you guys havent seen that its on youtube and its better than anything a comedian has done in the past 20 years. yes that includes joe rogan
>>109861256I can't wait to see something like...>On Sunday 20 September 2026, while monitoring 4chan for pro-goyim activity, agent John stumbled onto a drawing of an animal doctor. Little he know that after searching for sauce to he'd uncover a roblox game used to indoctrinate kids....On one these crime YouTube channels.I am not a big fan of furries. 30-30.Unless you simply wanted to point out that it's another artist that deals with nsfw.
>>109862025just surprised that the roblox kid generation is now old enough to commission, or at least create enough audience for, decently drawn furry art
>>109862154>just surprised that the roblox kid generation is now old enoughthere's multiple generations of roblox kids, the ones who were 8 years old playing it in 2010 are in their mid 20s nowits pretty crazy. all the instagram 13 year olds i fapped to during the pandemic are in college now
>>109861273>I think it's Anthropic.then he's lying or retarded because he said "not in the US/SF bubble" which Anthropic 100% is since he still loses his job in the UK at Anthropic if the SF bubble pops, which is possible to not be true for DeepMind since they've been doing this before the hypeas for salary that could just be him working a couple of years and gotten a couple of raises, or some slight fluffing rounding up his total comp for privacy etc
>>109862341Deepmind isn't a frontier lab though. They got reorged 5 seconds ago to try to go after the LLM bubble, which itself is an SF bubble. Before that, deepmind was trying to spam the Alpha* platform to find a commercial angle but failed to do so, despite their tech actually being nice unlike the llm garbage. That's not tech failure or use-case failure, but pure commercial retardation. The problem is of course that the nature of the commercial retardation is to try to nurture a solution in search of a problem, rather than letting the A team work on a problem to find a solution. They're again doing it backward with the reorg, now it's "we also do language models" because that's the trend, not because it's useful.
>>109862357>Deepmind isn't a frontier lab thoughyeah it is, even with the reorg, but sure even if it's not then any other candidate (literally just OpenAI and Anthropic) is SF-bubble-related so anon is retarded
>>109861539>ust got a rejection email from a job I applied to 8 months agoI just got one from 13 months ago>>109861782>if you guys havent seen that its on youtube and its better than anything a comedian has done in the past 20 years. yes that includes joe roganthis is too retarded to be bait kek it must be an asian person. Who's on First is probably the most famous comedy routine of all time
>>109862385The only "AI" that people consider today, especially when the term "frontier lab" is used, is LLMs. What LLMs have deepmind produced? None, ergo they are not a frontier lab. Google Brain is, if we stretch the shit out of the definition, as obviously gemini is a total joke. The reason they had to merge google brain and deepmind in the first place was because google brain was a laughing stock, while deepmind was deeply scientifically and technically skilled. Yet, they let the google brain people manage everything, not the deepmind people, post-merge. Post-merge deepmind obviously counts as SF anyway.
