I seriously hope you guys don't hoard your cables. It's a serious red flag.
>throw away something that has value and I might use againbut why?
>>109851906Count the number of times you actually needed it, compare that to the space it takes up and see if it makes any sense.it doesn't
A few years back I decided to sell all my old pc parts for $1 each like a flea market. A young woman came and picked up my ancient AGP GPU.We didn't call this hobby autism. We called it retro.
>>109851891But but muh cables
>>109851913>actually needed itOnce. You need it exactly once. That's exactly why you keep it.
>>109851891>one of countless young women who keep a growing collection of old computer cables in their drawerswhere can i find these women? id like to store my cable in one's drawers if you know what i mean
>>109851891WOOD
I'm not normal
>>109851957I buy people's junk box of cables at garage sales for like 5 bucks. So many times I've found really good stuff.
>>109851891Every monitor I have has cables draping off the rear. Further I have a coat rack with tons of cables off it, I call it my cable tree. I always have a cable when I, a friend, or family need one. If work is just going to throw them away, I'm taking them.
>>109851970I found some 30 yo SCISI cables last month on a yard sale. $5. Worth a lot more. Love the cables!
>>109851986My best find was a Sirius/XM radio with a lifetime subscription
>>109851992kek.. I have one in my garage. I bought it myself. Was a fan of Stern. Haven't listened in 15+ years tho.
>>109851891i hate proprietary drawing tablet cables that will no doubt be out of production long before the tablet itself breaks
>>109851891I look like her
>>109852003You could probably sell it for $150. Stern is awful
>>109852020I'm seeing more and more of these posts lately. Where some guy with AGP and shaved legs will post "I look like her", wait for some other guy to say "sexxo" or "L O N D O N" and presumably jerk off as if they've been validated
>>109852025>sell it for $150Really? Damn. I had no idea. Maybe I should sell it because I only listen one a month or so.Yeah, Stern is unlistenable. I stopped listening when Artie left. Comedy was gone. I heard he re-signed again but I don't know who still listens to that shit.
>>109852020>I look like herI highly doubt it, Steve.
>>109851891I'm not gifting my cables to some corporation so they can make money off me. Fuck that, they will be with me forever.
>>109852059>Stevenope
I have several boxes full of cables, old drives, batteries for my extensive collection of pre-chicklet Thinkpads and other computers, shelves full of components, etc. and if "experts" say that's autistic I am calm and unbothered.Look up the old SCSI cables, whatever the last external spec was before SAS. Fast-SCSI-4 IIRC? it's like $200 for a 1m cable and you can't buy the 2m cables at all, they had like 200 wires lol.I need one for some gay ass Roland interconnect with virtual studios and it's impossible to find (they are same as last-fast scsi but with a pin swap on a couple pins) and you could never make such a thing it's weigh 100 pounds.
I also have 5 Thinkpad W700 series computers, 2 W701ds's. And two TRANSnotes. If somebody told me to just get rid of them I'd freak out on them. Even my wife thinks the W701ds is hella cool and always makes fun of me for not using it all the time (I use a T520) but damn the thing is like 15 pounds loaded with drives.
>>109852096cute but zoomers don't know how to use 4chan and the few that do are not on /g/.
>>109851950"women" like that already have a cable coiled up in their drawers
I throw them away if they are obsolete. If I need them I can go buy them on amazon.
>>109851891>countless young women are keeping old ide or scsi cablesthis is the most unbelievable thing i have heard in my life. i don't believe this for even a second
>>109852262That’s more due to the systemic bias against women in cable hoarding than any kind innate difference between the sexes. Young women can’t join cable conventions without getting cat called.
>>109852262if you put women in quotes it becomes much more clear
>>109851891I'm gonna say it people will notice your autism way before they'll get a chance to see your box of cables. We're safe.
>>109851913I wouldnt be able to fill my house with things that are more useful per volume than ancient cables
>>109851891But... I am autistic.
>>109851913I need old 50pin and 68pin ribbon SCSI cables bi-month at least.
>>109851913>owning things is bad, goy
>>109852379looks like a nice place to house my bees
>>109852379tyan tiger?
>>109852361You can rent out that space out to a virtual drop shipper and make money.
>>109852400Close.
>>109851891I can fix her.
>>109851891I have the box, the box has wires, the box stay there until i need a cable.I find the cable, and that's it.
>>109852419anyway that's based, some old p4 maybe tho? that's a huge package
>>109851913more than once, so enough to make me want to do it again
>>109852445It's a Gigabyte VIA Apollo Pro 133 board not Tyan.
I just bought 6 usb mini cables today (the ones with the side profile of an arcade button)
>>109851913I threw out my old laptop chargers years ago, then got a mini PC which didn't come with the cable and used the same one. Cost $50 to get a new one. Maybe 20 cables you never use again, 3 you do, you saved $100 or so, was the space worth $100? Depends on your living situation I suppose, but probably not.
>>109851929>>109852361>>109852379>>109852383>>109852462Just admit it. You keep it around because it makes you feel like hacker/tinkerers.
>>109852192>>109852290kek
>>109852557You cut it open and there's more wires inside it dipcrap. Don't come on the tech board and pretend you never built anything with wires because we all know its not true
>>109852557But I need an healthy stock of replacement parts, including cables.
>>109852546that's what i want to know, how little space does anon have that a box of cables is taking up space more valuable than even the rare use of said box of cables.friend brought over computer but forgot a power cable? no problemsomeone accidentally an hdmi cable? i got onemate has an old hdd but lost the old mini-b/regular b usb cable? you bet i have themwhat else is dying to take up that space?
>>109852572yep, even broken cables are useful, though those i don't keep all of them since there's only so much loose wire one might need
>>109852140I would close the lid to crush this shit
>>109851891Maddie sounds like a friend I would like to make.
>>109852379>bi-month at leastwat? why?
>>109852597
>>109852641Fuck you...
>>109852575Yeah I hear you. I only threw mine out because I lived in my van for a while and had to keep what I stored at my dad's house to a minimum. And even that was only because my dad is poor, it shouldn't be an issue for a normal person.
>>109852574Is that yours? Kind of creepy but also very cool. You have so much working history in that room.
>>109852635See >>109852574Always something to build or repair, either for myself or someone else. >>109852661Yeah, thanks. There's plenty more shit but I didn't bother much with that collage.
>>109852681>currybookcringe
>>109852711It's just a computer.
OP is a shill for Best Buy. They want you to pay $30 every time you urgently need an "obsolete" cable.
>>109851891cool it with the autismphobia bigot
>>109852725Best Buy has SCSI cables? Where, I take a whole lot.
>>109851891Everytime i throw a cable out, 6 months later I need the fucking thing because I bought some gadget that needs a nearly obsolete connection.
>>109851891>>109851957It's astounding the length zoomies will go just to pretend they had some deep, recessed memory of the 90s!
>>109852790at the very least if you really want to throw a cable out but it's in good condition, chuck it on ebay or a local second hand website and let someone else use it.recently picked up a scart cable second hand like that and he probably didn't really expect someone to want one
>>109851891DVI ISNT OBSOLETE WHAT IF I NEED IT ONE DAY AND WONT HAVE THE CABLE FUCK YOU
>>109852096Fuck off ivy you’re a stank ass hoe
>>109852844one day i'll need one of those DVI-A to VGA adapters gpus used to come with and that i could probably find a handful of in my room and you'll be sorry you ever doubted me
>>109851891I can afford to have a specific space of my house for cables i might need.
>>109852681Damn I didn't know they had chatgpt in the 80s.
>>109852877When people say "terminal", they mean this machine.Linuxfags are just emulating it instead of having the real deal. It's just not the same experience.
>>109852906I think he's talking about Zork.
