>$1100>only support USB 2 . FUCKING 0imagine how shit the quality is for wired streamingI just don't want my brain to get melted by those HUGE micro-waves coming into my head
>>109855327I guess you lost in the lottery.
>>109855327It uses foviated streaming so it probably doesn't need as much bandwidth
>>109855327> low resolution LCD screen> up to 2 hours of battery life (streaming mode), even lower at standalone> old mobile CPU> USB 2> monocromatic passthrough> cheap plasticthis thing is literally a scam, a Quest 2 with some accessories deliver a superior experience at 4X cheaper
if you can't play beat sabre or gorilla tag in 4k then what's even the point
>>109855327Can you even stream over the wire?
>>109855404never thought about it but graphics have never been a top priority for VRthe most popular games like superhot or... others are just plain textured red humanoids, and crap like I expect you to die or that menial job simulator have a cartoonish style of flat colors. RE4 was a novelty since it's been rereleased so many damn times but they put way more effort into making it VR than fucking bethesda did with skyrim and FO4
>>109855401>t. zuck
Quest = contract phone loaded with bullshitFrame = unlocked phone you can de-zuckThat's the only way to look at the price difference.
>>109855401Quest only costs 300 because they sell your face, house, everything. It's like Alexa or a Chinese roomba but worse. They are getting goddamn biometrics.
>>109855327It has PCIe lanes exposed also.
>>109855327>wait list
The only thing that matters with VR is fucking fixing the dogshit FOV that makes it feel like you're looking out of a space helmet all the time.
>>109855327>I just don't want my brain to get melted by those HUGE micro-waves coming into my headThis has been dumb for a long time because before you were born they blasted every lab animal with absurd levels of these radio waves over decades and nothing happened. However I think just for the schizos they should make a directional radio that points up and you can put the router on the ceiling. You still get hit with waves that are in the air everywhere but it seems to be a point source close to your head you guys are sperging about.
>>109855435I don't think it's any different from flat really. If you have a novel or addicting concept people don't care about graphics across hardware. Minecraft, roblox, megabonk, all the friendslop, etc. The difference is people who care about graphics just aren't in VR at all unless they have a top end graphics card.
>>109856081>no schizo! consistent DAILY wi-fi microwaves near your head do you no harm! who's gonna tell this anon
The Frame is the first spatial Linux PC.
I only wanted to get it because of valve support, any other company I wouldn't have even bothered. Valve did good by the deck so that's why I decided to try and I still failed.....I dunno
>>109857813
>>109855401> low resolution LCD screenSimilar to Q3> up to 2 hours of battery life (streaming mode), even lower at standaloneFixed with power bank or the hard strap with hotswap batteries that will be ready soon> old mobile CPUIt's the best CPU with good driver support> USB 2Doesnt matter and might not be true with different straps> monocromatic passthroughFixed with $150 addon which takes better video than the Quest 3 and even Applel> cheap plasticGood enough>>109855413Yes but OP is retarded, the bandwidth is enough
>>109856071it's impossible you can't make lenses that give you widescreen view, unless they invent some shit that streams information directly into your visual cortex
>>109857955>it's impossible you can't make lenses that give you widescreen viewWhy the fuck not?
>>109857856>Fixed with $150 addon which takes better video than the Quest 3 and even Applelnope, that still looks much worse than Quest 3, so let's not even get into Apple passthrough comparison
>>109857996It is higher res. Also Applel displays are more blurry in general than even the Q3: https://kguttag.com/2024/03/01/apple-vision-pros-optics-blurrier-lower-contrast-than-meta-quest-3/
So how much does this end up costing with addons/wi-fi access points/straps/powerbanks/whatever the fuck to actually make it usable? like 1500$?
>>109858008why did valve build this crap
>>109858041What should they have made instead?
>>109858045Index 2 and Alyx 2
>>109858099You can get a big scream beyond if you want a higher res index
>>109857960lenses only work when they are a round
>>109855327USB 2.0 supports 480mbps. With overhead that's still more than enough for a perceptually lossless 4K stream.
>>109858271Remove the lenses and have a curved screen that covers the entire eye socket
>>109858370holy shit, Steam fanboys are even worse than Apple fanboys
>>109858531why do you need more?
>>109858423You'd still need lenses for that because light needs to be roughly collimated to emulate a focal plane further away than pixels. An ideal headset would have an optics stack for each pixel also adjusting for the focal distance. The next best thing would be a micro lens array with a fixed element for every pixel. Theoretically manufactureable but very expensive.
>>109858370nofor good weird streaming it goes over 500mbpsand not to mention that cable length will take effect upon this shitty usb2.0
>>109858731Frame has foveated streaming. Streaming the entire frame at full quality is just a waste.
But doesn't the 6GHZ radio get more bandwidth? I can just share an USB device wireless over usbip on Linux. Why would I want it wired? isn't the whole point of the Frame to stay wireless?
>>109857955>>109858271>>109858564Boba 3 has near human FOV in a single lens per eye and meta casually showed it at a trade show and people got try it, and before that you could stitch lenses together to give wide FOVs. You typed all that pseud mumbo jumbo but you didn't have common industry knowledge.
>>109858764Some retards just really want the wired "experience".
>>109857996>>109858008>>109858041I have my doubt's about norm's in-lens photos of the passthrough. Apparently the color passthrough is too high res for frame to even process in real time. It has a "foveated sharpening" feature, I wonder if that allows the sensor's full resolution where you are looking, which would not work unless you had your eye up to the display stack.
>>109858981hehehe boba :DDD
>>109858370Not when low latency is a requirement, you can't get the same compression quality as if you waited a long time for a nice encode. Even with foveated streaming frame testers said they can see losses on things like text. They still praise it but it's not transparent to display port.
>>109858981
>>109858764wifi cancer schizos and removing wireless latency and just having the video encode/decode latency. Could come in handy with a different headstrap, maybe one that uses the SD card slot or PCI-E connection for wired data.
>>109857813>>109857828shit's gonna be so kino
>>109857813>steam OS icon is still a deck iconcucked
>>109855435There just aren't enough people with good headsets + high end GPU to justify the cost of making a VR game look good so they don't even try.Metro Awakening VR for example is a really fun game but it would be so much better if it had better graphics.99.9% of VR games frankly look like ass and stops people from buying more expensive hardware because what's the point?I play Microsoft Flight Simulator in an 8K OLED VR headset and it looks fucking amazing.Action games could probably never look that good but I woud settle for Half Life Alyx level of graphics which is still the best looking non-simulator VR game despite being so old.
>>109858764>>109858992For low res headsets like Frame and Quest you definitely want to go wireless and save the hassle. For high res headsets wireless isn't good enough yet.But that's really a niche VR use and really just for simulators where the extra resolution actually matters.Specifically in flight simulators you want to be able to read the dials in the cockpit as well as enjoy the beautiful scenery. And that level of detail comes at the drawback of having to use a wire. But since you play (flight) simulators seated and real pilots wear wires headphones it's really no big deal and doesn't even break immersion.
>>109855327crazy how 0 Frame alternatives there are (wight and software) and a reminder that VR headsets started where there 10 years ago
>>109859033>90 degrees
>wires streamingnot a thingNo one cares what the usb port is. The only reason to buy it is wireless. Only situation where you may have a cable in it is playing sitting down on a pc with charging cable plugged in.
>>109855401> monocromatic passthrough Why does this matter?
>>109857760They don't, they're not anywhere strong enough. The effect of microwaves on tissue is heating, but for any sort of noticeable heating to occur you need very high amounts of power, like in a microwave oven where this effect is used to cook or heat food.>>109859044The wireless latency on a direct link in the same room, with line of sight even, is going to be minimal. I doubt it would be anything sigificant compared to the capture + encode + decode process.
>>109857760>boiling water is dangerous therefore warm water is also dagerousi bet you never leave your house at day to avoid those nasty radio waves coming from the sun
Is it true that streaming games from a Linux gaming PC doesn't work yet due to software issues? This thing was in development for how long and no one bothered to test Linux systems with it? Really? I guess the lottery is just a ruse to get more time for the devs to fix things?
>>109861204Passthrough porn
>>109862008I am intrigued. Please elaborate on your monumental paradigm.
