If AI is going too fast, and needs to be slowed down, and apparently no one at the frontier is capable of self-regulation, then perhaps it's time that Anthropic and OpenAI get nationalized? Clearly, Sam and Dario cannot stop themselves from developing a superweapon that'll kill us all and demand for the US government to step in and stop them from doing so, so the best way to go forward would be for their companies to get nationalized and be held under the tight scrutiny of the US government over what they can and cannot do?I don't know, seems like a better solution than to trying pass legislation where Anthropic and OpenAI will be omitted and everyone but them will get slowed down. If that's what Dario was truly worried about, he'd have no problems with such a plan, no?
