I used to use linux back in the late 2000s on my laptop even though its hardware wasn't super well supported. I don't remember my exact reasoning, it might have been because I was annoyed by vista, it might have been because I was a teenager and I wanted to fit in on /g/, but either way I did enjoy it despite its issues. when I built my first desktop a few years later I ended up going with 7 because I was interested in gaming. but then when building my current desktop a couple years ago I didn't want to deal with 11 so I just installed arch and I haven't looked back. games run great with proton, and usability in general is just way better than I remember it being.
I hadn't heard of omarchy until this summer and I don't see any reason to switch, since I'm perfectly happy without "opinionated" bloat, and the ai integration doesn't interest me. I'll sometimes use chatgpt to help with shit, but I don't want to give it access to my computer.

Hyprland is pretty garbage to use I don't know how people use it. I tried but I could not get used to it at all and this is coming from someone that has no issue using i3/Sway, dwm, Bspwn, Awesome, etc. The way Hyprland arranges windows is just garbage and then when you want to take control of things there's no obvious way to do so.

I thought the entire reason people were leaving Windows for Linux was to get away from AI.

I won't stop using windows because all my games/projects/apps are on my server, but getting it to sync up (save files) with another windows machine gets tiring. Started putting more apps into containers where I could.

I moved entirely to linux on any 2ndary device like the Steam Deck, Laptop, and living room PC (streaming and some light gaming provided it does cloud saving).

The only shit part is that save syncing is still very cumbersome on Windows (Synology Drive connected to Gamesavemanager v3 and Syncbackpro for files that don't have symlinks). Hard to beat this until you add new games; that, and running Windows on mobile devices sucks. I did try Atlas OS, but at some point, I got tired of managing saves for games I wasn't playing because of various little problems. So I cut out both complex games, and I didn't need Windows anymore, so why not try something else?

Running bazzite, yeah, it's pretty locked down but flatpacks and some game mode stuff is all I need. I can get all my work done either through remote desktop or via URLs that I self-host (on a Debian server, or Windows 10 pro server)

Modern isn't necessarily good. I quite liked manual tiling like i3/Sway does and Awesome and Dwm, etc, have better implementations of the automatic layout crap that make it easier to still swap and position windows where you want them to be without having to do some huge dance to do so.
