I have a confession.I've never been able to open an Amazon account.They must have gotten some pattern detection on me or something and the 3-4 times I've tried in the past 10 years to open an account, it never let me add a CC.I don't need it, I use a separate local alternative. But I do find it funny that one of the few people in the world who actually doesn't want to use big corpo crap is not allowed to anyway.

We just say 'yup, we got the item back, here's your refund'.If I buy a 24TB external hard drive, then I open it up, replace the 24TB hard drive with a 1TB hard drive and return it then that's bad.If I buy a motherboard and replace that motherboard with a broken one and return it then that's bad.If I buy a screwdriver set and steal one or three bits and return it then that's bad.You can still return items if you got it broken or you changed your mind. It becomes a problem when it happens in a pattern.

For awhile they were using some shitty shipping company here that never delivered my stuff on time, so a few days after the scheduled delivery date I would tell support that I never got my delivery and they would give me the option to cancel and refund the order, and if the item did happen to show up just keep it (which it always did). I got like $500 of free stuff over the course of a couple months before the shippers started hitting their dates on time.

Not all items returned gets put into a pallet and sold as is. After an item is considered returns it usually goes to another department and they inspect it more thoroughly, but still not extensively. In my warehouse the department that usually handles all that was people working in Damage Land where all items that are returned or damage gets sent to be processed. If they say an item is okay to be resold then Amazon resells them, if not then it usually goes to another process and they check to see if it's worth putting on a pallet and sold per pallet or recycled.So if they get an external hard drive that was returned they just do a visual check to see if it can be resold. They don't have equipment to test every single thing that was returned. If an item looks good as new, and connections looks good then they relist it. Even motherboards gets relisted since 99% of the people working there don't know that a bent motherboard pin = dead board. Catching a missing screwdriver in a set is easier to spot though and that is thrown in a pallet instead. Things like broken glass is recycled.
