I never realized in 2000s that PC monitors used this shadow mask technology. As a kid I looked close at my CRT TV and saw slits, but I never looked close at the PC monitor, I think the dots were so small that they never stood out to grab my attention.One thing I do vividly remember, in 2005 when I got my first laptop with LCD and could finally play GTA Vice City/San Andreas on my own computer at home instead of going to a LAN bar, was the horrible jaggedness, requiring anti-aliasing, which back then did not even exist in games, i remember my friend even shitting and saying somehow quality wasn't as good as those CRT's.Now I want one, even though I have an ultrawide 50" samsung 1440p

I've never seen one of these in Finland, was so surprised to get to finally see one for myself, in such an unlikely place too.They honestly feel not that different to shadow masks. >>109894794Brother, there have been shaders that properly do all of the CRT types and standard SD res for at least a couple years now.And in my opinion it's about the only thing 4K is actually good for. They only work properly for 4K as that's mathematically the minimum resolution to produce the sub-pixel light effects you need for proper CRT emulation.
