If they leave enough margin for a competitor to get over initial startup costs, the price will be brought down due to competition.

I can see a case for a company to make a GPU 80-90% as good as nvidia for 50% the price, especially if we see some relief in the RAM market in the next few years. Starting up a chip manufacturing operation takes years of lead-time so it really depends on if Nvidia decides to keep the markup for the 60 and 70 series.
