maintaining morale is critical
wtf is going on? some team just handed us their project and said they're too busy to finish it, we should do it.. (and our team lead said yes?). it's a shit project and much worse than how they presented it
I genuinely believe the world would be a better place if the average "engineer" actually had to use their products.

I genuinely believe the world would be a better place if the average "engineer" was fired and only the top 1% of engineers were allowed to make things.

i need an actual project at work because without fey mood shit i cannot be happy. there are "opportunities" supposedly, but we all know that we techs merely exist at the behest of engineers who have forgotten we exist, for clients who don't care about anything. my morale is rapidly falling and i can tell that in our little department, everyone else's is too, even if not as precipitously.

Making fun of "ai chads" at work is quickly becoming my favorite thing. Several "ai chad" coworkers have their stinky CRUD app and UI, yet they have no users. The few "ai chads" that make it to presenting their stuff just get head nods or tough (easy) questions.I used to defend my "ai chad" coworkers until one of them:>asked me for my insight>i explained what he's trying isn't possible>he secretly kept going>weeks later he comes back groveling for more help while trying not to reveal he's still going>i reminded him why it's not possible>he shrugged and blathered in deflection>weeks later he gave up and quit the companyThe "ai chads" are all the same to me now: Belligerent, clueless, and widely understood to be non-technical (so never respected in what they vibecode), and thus, I can't associate with them any longer.
>>109911352Be grateful you're even getting paid that much and never forget that India is pumping out 17 million of these "engineers" every year, while only creating around 50,000 new jobs in their entire country. Look at Europe and you'll see where SWE salaries should have been for Americans- but even that will keep going down until eventually our invader poos will get paid exactly the same as their outsourced cousin poos.In 5 years we're going to be looking at these 6 figure tech salaries the same way we look back at the days when knowing how to make an HTML form by hand and send it to an email inbox would guarantee you a 6 figure salary and a stable career path in web development.

>>109910294Nyo, it's time to get off the work computer and get on the home computer. My weekly usage reset and it's time to vibecode
>>109911553Not fully true. There were bad sensors, but more importantly Boeing hid the MCAS functionality from the FAA so that they wouldn't have to spend money to retrain pilots because they could claim there was nothing new in operating the new plane. But then the MCAS sensors failed and the (not as well trained) foreign pilots didn't know what the fuck to do because Boeing never taught them and so they died.
>>109911553>Boeing admitted MCAS played a role in both accidents, when it acted on false data from a single angle of attack (AoA) sensor. In 2020, the FAA, Transport Canada, and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) evaluated flight test results with MCAS disabled, and suggested that the MAX might not have needed MCAS to conform to certification standards.[5] Later that year, an FAA Airworthiness Directive[6] approved design changes for each MAX aircraft, which would prevent MCAS activation unless both AoA sensors register similar readings, eliminate MCAS's ability to repeatedly activate, and allow pilots to override the system if necessary. The FAA began requiring all MAX pilots to undergo MCAS-related training in flight simulators by 2021.>crashing your plane because a single sensor was giving you a bad readingIt was dogshit software

There is no job abandonment category, so they have to fill out the other category and provide a detailed response. Basically saying that you abandon your job. I assume this would make any type of background checks in the future. Brewing your chances of getting another job. It's a pity, but I almost have enough money to save where it doesn't matter. Not bad. It'd be pretty funny if you just see all these calls and stuff appearing on your phone, but you literally don't respond and the company is ceding, telling you to give them back their computer and you just act like a ghost and don't reply. >>109934976It's either company-enforced or it's a social thing. If it's a social thing you just have to find people who don't care as much. You can "casually say" that you don't understand why people don't like sharing salaries, to you it's just a number and shit. See who bites. They'll probably do something like "oh yeah? what do you earn?" and you tell them, see their reaction, and then pressure them into answer as well "I told you mine now tell me yours? come on, don't be a bitch".If it's company enforced it's a little harder. I work in software development, we are very AI heavy now. It's kind of boring, honestly. What types of programming aren't so AI focused now? I don't even know where my passion is anymore and I can feel the regression.Whoever decided talking to a computer is fun is a jew
>>109935738I went to a good school and was really great at leetcode
Started working at a big corporate job, I used to work in startups. The biggest thing I hate so far is that everyone makes questions feel stupid.>Instructed to reach out to a certain role for an onboarding task>Ask the person I'm supposed to be asking questions who that is>"This was in your contract!" (had to go through hundreds of pages of documentation the past few days)>Reach out to the person in my contract>Apparently it's not even the right person>Reach out to the right person>They don't respond for a week>Ask on standup to confirm I'm doing it right this time>Scrum master doesn't even answer my question>Just says "um, anon, I trust that you are capable of following up on your own?">I already did that multiple times, they just assumed I didn't>Also, isn't their whole job making sure I'm not blocked?>Finally the person responds>After all that, they don't even listen to my request that I was told to make>Just respond in the least generous most dismissive wayI don't see how any organization can survive like this.
>>109936976>I don't see how any organization can survive like this.size and momentum
>>109936976Sounds like you're particularly unlucky to work with absolute cunts, I can't say I've seen the same, even from our american coworkers
>>109936976Yup, welcome to big companies. Wait until you get into the political games they play on top of that garbage. It's why I swore off big corps forever.
AMZN bro's its going to get worse. My friends at apple thought they were AI proof through R&D and it seems like they are on the chopping block too. 30% between both companies Est.
>boss wants a special addition to the pipeline to be create>to give the ability for auto deployment of AI models from the data sciences team>do it > nobody use it besides me>still have to accept and deploy AI models>mfw when this is another step in the pipeline that creates more problems that solves
>>109936976i might be a sociopath because stuff like this slides right off me.as long as i can point my finger at the external contractor or whoever it is that's blocking me, i can legitimately do nothing about it myself, and can genuinely say that i've tried contact multiple times it doesn't weight on my conscience.it gets messy if it's a team member because it's not nice to throw people under the bus, so you gotta give them the gentle treatment and speak to your boss in a 1:1 instead of a shared meeting
>>109935650Yeah, modern slavery is why pajeets like you are being brought to our countries>>109935755It's social. I guess I'll take the next opportunity my teammates start complaining about their pay grades
I asked my coworker for the api log and he copy pasted claude at me
>>109936918join /gedg/ while claude is chugging my friend
>>109937803I've had that recently as well. When that happens I just ghost the fag and say at the next standup I'm blocked because he isn't giving me the logs, for example. If he claims he has answered I make a snide remark about AI slop and its total lack of relevance.
>new product team guy wants to use ai agents for analysis, writing wiki docs and whatever else
>>109937452It doesn't impact me directly emotionally, and if it was a few fags blocking me I wouldn't be worried about pointing the finger at them, but when it's everyone on my team I don't like being universally considered a retard who can't get unblocked when I'm just asking normal new guy questions. Also not enjoying having to keep receipts in case this comes up on perf review
>>109937968Always keep receipts for everything, that's how it goes for big corporate jobs.
>>109937968>Also not enjoying having to keep receipts in case this comes up on perf reviewCongrats on even figuring out that this is the first thing you should do. Every single conversation: log it. Voice call? Send a summary of what was discussed after and ask if that is consistent with what the other guy thinks. The agreement gives you a written proof. Welcome to big corps.
>>109937911>If he claims he has answered I make a snide remark about AI slop and its total lack of relevancewell I hope you get fired then because that's just you being an ignorant retard
>>109938148The guy in question got a stern talking to about not spamming people with irrelevant walls of texts that make everyone slower for no reason. Sucks to have AI psychosis I guess.
>>109935743>got fired on the spotyou should elaborate. right now you seem disgruntled and larping
>>109938215Not much to elaborate on. I got extremely good reviews and told that I'm definitely getting a raise at the 6 months perf review because I "punched well above my weight". 6 months role in, perf review, they're practically getting on all four and sucking my dick. I ask about the raise they say "oh... the company is not doing so good..." Note that literally everyone else got a raise so far and that I'm the least paid employee in the company, including the woman whose entire job is to order snacks for the office once a month. I explain that I relocated across provinces in just 4 days for them and they know the quality of my work, and explain also that I'm currently slightly finance negative because of the shit pay. They say they'll look into it. Next day 10am I'm pulled aside. "You're fired effective immediately".
Anyone else having a severe uptick of recruiters in their inbox lately? Are we recovering from the job losses of 2022-2023?
>>109938342Scammers are desperate they are losing H1B access among other work visas.
>>109938342No, I can't say that
>>109937911lmao
>>109936326Without one you're never getting a job.
>>109938266its like dating, don't make yourself seem so desperate, and don't behave that way either. Everyone knows slackers don't get fired, its always the go go go dorks
>>109938462What if you're both a slacker and a dork?
>>109935506Sounds like you never had a job.
>>109938723>>109938723>>109938723>>109938723
>>109938444Maybe in Burgerland, but why would anyone want to live/work there?
>>109938462>Everyone knows slackers don't get fired, its always the go go go dorksYes, but I was legit going to go homeless by summer at that rate. You have to remember that in Canada, rent is (generally) 1-year binding and it's virtually unheard of that a landlord agrees to break the lease earlier without a massive fee (that can often be higher than to actually pay for the rest of the year) as well. This means not only I'd have been homeless, but I would also have had to take on debt and then default on it or something like that. And yes, that was the cheapest rent I could find at the time because of the jewish shit Canadian landlords do during student intake season. My coworkers were showing me their apartments and telling me to come to their building instead since it's so much cheaper. They'd open the app and... it was 50-150% more expensive than what I was paying, they just lucked out on securing a pre-covid lease.Furthermore, I was working 10-12h a day on average (spread out between the week and the weekends and holidays) with 100% on-call.I had already tried to find other jobs, but the Canadian market is just literally not a thing at all. I had expected them to just say "sorry, maybe next time" and move on. Then I would have went home at 5 on the dot every day to grind leetcode and apply to jobs. But I'm sure they would have fired me for this had I done that anyway.
>>109938887Rent here is pretty fucking awfulBedrooms are going for >1k in most "big" citiesYou sound kinda traumatized from thisI guess you ended up in America? hope things are better for you there
>>109939204>only 1kWith 2 roommates maybe lmao.Anyway, I had tried to get into the US for a few years by then. I went through late stage interviews but when they learned I did not have an H1B, no amount of explaining what TN status is changed their mind. It seemed that around 10 years ago TN was no longer recognized ever again. Eitherway, I ended up in a EU country and now earn the equivalent (based on my net take-home) of 313k CAD.
>>109939285How are your colleagues in the EU? Nicer?Did you find your job on LinkedIn?I guess you had few ties to friends and family in Canada since you didn't mention moving back in with parents?I'll be in the next thread if you wanna answer there
>>109936315do the cons outweigh the pros of having some free time throughout the day for chores and interaction with sundwellers?
>>109926753buy or build a building and rent it out, put the rest in a goyfund and live off it
>>109939338Generally they're way nicer. No politics AT ALL, extremely understanding of things like having to take time off to go to the dentist or whatever. Very flexible and relaxed attitude. Strict 9-5 schedules, no bullshit "you are paid 40 hours but you'll be fired if you work less than 70". 30d vacations is also really cool.I did find the job on linkedin, but I applied through the website directly. After that I found my next job through a recruiter who reached out to me.I never really had friends, but my entire family was in Canada. I was never all that close to them, though. They call me weekly and miss me and all but I'm OK where I am thankyouverymuch. You can keep asking questions in the next thread or whatever.
>>109939396will you be retiring soon?what do you do for fun there? same stuff as Canada?is the immigrant situation as bad as pol claims? (e.g. Paris is just a refugee camp now) what was the hardest part about moving there? Just getting the job and convincing recruiters/hiring managers you're willing to go there? I am sorta stuck in Canada because of a medication I take
>>109938159great, sounds like you have a happy and healthy work environment anon!!!
>>109939441I have much better access to nature here, to the point I can walk 30m from my home that's in the biggest city and go fish. And the fish is actually safe to eat. Not that I fish that often, but I go out in nature a lot. Just walks, or mushroom picking, or renting a boat, that kind of stuff. Doable in Canada of course, but not feeling like driving 2h one way some weekends and such. No such issue here. I also have work friends who invite me to hang out sometimes, something I hadn't managed to find in 16 years working in Canada. It's also easier to travel, so I visited some places in the UK and France, and planning to do something larger, like pan-European, some summer.Immigration situation depends a lot on country and sometimes even city. Where I am, it's white as snow. Paris is pretty bad, but nowhere near as bad as Toronto was when I left, for example, and arguably better than Montreal was as well, although depends on area. London is much better now than it was some years ago, but pretty dreadful and much worse than Toronto for sure. West and South of France in some cities I've been have been much better. I need to visit more of ireland, but for now it's not been a nice place so far.Hardest part of moving was the psychological block. I got into a country I know nothing about, where I heard it was a shitskin haven and where I don't know the language. I am extremely happy that this impression couldn't have been further from the truth and that I took to the language easily.Aside from that, I had an easier time getting job offers in Europe than I did in Canada. I had another competing offer in Germany that I turned down at the same time, within 30ish applications. By comparison I had not had an interview in 242 job applications in Canada at that point.>>109939479Yes, I really lucked out. It was also a second stroke of luck to have landed in this country and not in another less "interesting" one.
>>109939285>I ended up in a EU country and now earn the equivalent (based on my net take-home) of 313k CADYeah I don't believe you. Most software engineers in Europe don't even make 6 figures. That would be in like the top 0.1% of salaries.
>>109940147It's top 0.5% here, yes. But also most software engineers with at least 3 yoe make 6 figs here. Not all EU countries are created equal.
>>109919322>5'9over
>>109940147this lmao
>>109939520I'm guessing Spain or Portugal
