Actually probably more exotic an original working romantic robot multiface 3 plugged into an original working sinclair spectrum +3 all fully working compleet with working 3 inch Amstrad floppy drive.

It's so exotic the center for computing nhistory does not have it only the 1 and 2

in 2023, i bought an old dual-processor 1U server made by a russian company, based on an IBM QS22 blade server
it has two PowerXCell 8i CPUs, and there's very little information about this particular server on the web
i have no idea how many of them were ever produced, and even less of an idea how one of them ended up on the used market
attached pic was the listing for it. the description says:
> 1U server manufactured by T-Platforms.
> Inside: an IBM Blade QS22 with 2 x IBM PowerXCell 8i 3.2 GHz processors, no top cover, plus an IBM IMM board and additional components from T-Platforms.
> Specifications:
> 2 x IBM PowerXCell 8i 3.2 GHz processors, 8 x 4 GB PC6400 P memory modules, an IBM IMM board, 2 Ethernet interfaces, and 2 bays for 2.5" hard drives.
> No hard drives are included. The server passes the self-test (during the process it reports an issue with one memory module, but the test still completes successfully). The power supply and cooling system are in good working order.
> I can bring it for testing in Kyiv. There is no possibility to test it in a rack on site.
> Not sold for parts: only as a complete unit, as-is.

Prototype of a game system. Less than 10 of this first batch were made.
I suspect the CPU is an internal pre-production revision (from a major company, undocumented other than mentioning its existence), but haven't ID'd it yet.
It's not particularly valuable, the production version isn't much different, but it was fun to have early access to unreleased hardware.
Unusually, we were granted full ownership and the NDA was lifted, so it's truly mine to do whatever I want with.

Earlier this year I found a businesses entire server rack (minus the rack) discarded on the side of the road. It was 2x macally arena 16 bay scsi jbods, 1x pelco dssrv nvr and I think 6x dell poweredge 2950s and 2x 2850s. Surprising despite likely just being hucked off the back of a truck judging by the damage, everything still worked. I got rid of the dells since they were effectively just extremely loud space heaters and used the nvr (just a q67+i7 2700k pc) and jbods for a while for truenas until I got some better hardware.
None of this is particularly exotic (except probably the jbods), but finding a literal entire rack on the side of the road sure was a novelty.

>What the most exotic piece of hardware you own?
i've had picrel for about a decade now, it runs windows CE 5.0
At the time the only way i managed to figure out how to "install" things (aka not actually install but it at least looks like it) was to modify the registry to run a batch script on boot that copied programs and folders over from an SD card since when you power the thing on it loads into RAM or something

I'm sure there is a much better way to do this, but me a decade ago decided to go with that method and i havent touched it since

it's normal for windows ce devices to load software into ram, ram is shared between work ram and storage, probably because back then external storage like sd cards were very slow.

also typically you're supposed to copy stuff to/from them using activesync
>>
>>109932082
>probably because back then external storage like sd cards were very slow.
well that and probably also to make external storage optional and able to swap cards without losing access to programs.
as you can imagine, having ram for internal storage means you'll lose anything not saved elsewhere if your battery runs out completely, which is why the intended method of transferring files was syncing with a pc, so you always have a copy of everything on a pc as well. not to mention that made sense anyway back when portable devices had limited internet access, if you want to read/write emails on the go you would typically only have whatever was cached from a pc on the last sync, and newly written ones would be synced to the pc to actually send them at a later time

good old nettops, that time they attempted to sell thin clients as normal consumer pc's since they were starting to become arguably powerful enough to run windows on their own.

unless there's something special about that one they aren't exactly exotic. you can still get nettops in the form of minipc's today, only they're a lot more powerful as laptop hardware got small enough that minipc's are closer to laptop hardware than thin client hardware
>>
>>109927767
its a triple slot, triple fan, 1gb 560ti with an overclock button
it has a slotted VRM expansion card on the back, the backplate is a 1/4" thick aluminum heatsink
originally it came with attachable extra heatsinks, the "air kit"
it was packaged like a mall katana (literally, the same type of packaging) and included paints so you could paint it yourself
though i painted mine with acrylic pens

but its still a 1gb 560ti

colorful always makes some kind of cracked out absurdly overkill high end card, check the kudan 3090 and its quick disconnect hybrid cooling and hard travel suitcase it comes with for reference
but nobody really liked the 580/590 and everyone and their mother owned a 560ti, so they went the route of the more popular card and just put all their high end stuff on the more popular card
so they made the absolute most cracked out 560ti there could ever be

we will never have a product like this ever again
>>
>>109936524
this is hilarious
i expect them to try something like this with a 5050 or something soon, as even 5060s become overpriced
