I'm currently building a device with a hand crank. You use it to generate the power required to post on social media.I want people to take responsibility for the resources they waste posting absolute garbage online day in day out.When capitalism tries to invent new ways to remove friction and make things easier and faster, I do the opposite. I want to add friction.My system is decentralized so you need to host your own content by active cranking. This will make sure that there's only important information on the web. If you think something's not worth the crank time, then it was probably crap anyway. Wikipedia would be hosted by a collective of crank monks cranking day and night to make sure important information stays online.This means that the web will work like humans do. When you say something in real life, it's gone. Only valuable information gets passed on. But in today's digital world, 90% of the web is bot-generated or otherwise counterproductive, and sites like Internet Archive are triple archiving all this junk that nobody has any need for - just because it's possible. This is so far from the optimal system that it makes me screech.
