reiserfs wasn't removed because of its ties to hans reiser, it was removed because nobody maintained it. the guy who would have went to prison.

keep in mind it was removed in 2024, while hans was convicted in 2008. if reiserfs was removed because of what hans did you'd think it'd have been removed much earlier.

reiserfs (3) was getting old even in 2008, there was a reiserfs 4 in development at the time but it was never completed for the same reason.

2) Russians were still working on Reiser 4 and Reiser 5

so do many things that get removed. sometimes things are removed because whoever was maintaining the stuff it touches didn't want to keep taking it into account anymore. it's not a good idea to leave a filesystem in there if you aren't going to keep giving guarantees that it'll keep working (i.e. just leave it to rot).
