What is the one distro you keep going back to? Mine is picrel
>>109934007kubuntuit just weeks, gnome a shit
Microsoft Windows
>>109934024Imagine paying money to a guy that is actively trying to poison the world
>>109934007gentoo, oldschooled like slackware but with an actual package management
>>109934007Debian>>109934032I'd do the same thing if I was a billionaire though
>>109934007I just use Gentoo, there's very little movement involvedDebian and Arch btw are cool too tho
>>109934007Ubuntu and I'm not happy about it. >try other distros>packages I want aren't in their repos>fiddling with configs like it's 2003I really, really don't want to go back to Ubuntu but I might have to. God damn it. I was so happy with PopOS before they started delaying LTS releases for their retarded Cosmic thing. Now I'm wandering in the desert of shitty distros.
>>109934007Wake me up when 15.1 is out and I'll give it another shot.
>>109934523ubuntu is the best distro
>>109934093I thought a Gentoo user would appreciate Devuan more than Debian.
>>109934673Yes... except for Snap, Wayland, and systemd.
>>109934769True I likely would prefer it, but I haven't used it yetMy experience with other distros is pretty limited
>>109934007Bare Metal & Virtual Servers:>AlmaLinux (mostly those I own)>Ubuntu Server (mostly those others own)Higher end personal computers:>Fedora (Cinnamon)Lower end personal computers:>MX Linux (Sysvinit)Extremely comfy, plus I'm jacked into the Debian and Red Hat spheres 24/7.
>>109934769>devuanwho? is that an amateur non-systemd distro?
>>109934007i dunno why you fuckers change so much. within the last five years I've done popOS, debian, neon, and now arch. i'll probably stay on arch forever. ive used a billion distros before this gentoo being my favorite that lasted for 20yrsish.
OpenSUSE
My own distro, everything just works and is the way I want.
Mint, devuan (Which is my go-to when I need to get something done that systemd is getting in the way of) and Freebsd (for laptops or low power pcs).I've given up, whenever I try to distro hop something breaks within a month and I go crawling back to Mint, devuan or Freebsd. I'm not young anymore and have no patience to fix some horshit change to a program a tranny pushed into the arch or fedora repos that broke 20 other programs that had dependencies from it.
>>109934007Arch Unironically just works, since I kinda know what I'm doing and what I want over the years
>>109935909you literally have to maintain your own distro instead of other people doing it for you, how is that just works, u retard?and you're just one person, your shit distro is basically unmaintained
>>109935992my repo is literally more up to date than any other distro retard (the outdated stuff is shit like llvm where the latest release is not compatible with a lot of other shit) and everything is automated. I run my bump script, it parses repology for me, builds the packages in a container, uploads to my repo and then I decided if I want to update or not on my host. If something breaks I can just revert the update. Also I don't have to deal with some jeet injecting malware in the AUR, worry about muh licenses or some troon who says nooo you can't use this fascist software.
>>109936027>automatedso like AI? cool distro
Debian. I just like it.
>>109936027>automatedwhich means unmaintained>it can breakbecause nobody maintains it
>>109936060>>109936083whatever troons, everything just works on my system
Devuan
>>109935748>>devuan>who? is that an amateur non-systemd distro?Definitely not some amateur project, no. It's been around a long time. (2014) It's very stable, and there's no drama or political shit.
>>109934007Back to the old wherkhorse, then
>>109934877Wayland is on 95% of distros, it's the present and futurex11 is pretty much abandoned at this point.
>>109938108Nor being mainstream didn't stop me from using Linux in 1998, and it won't stop me from using X now. I'll use Wayland when it has a real screensaver.
>>109938242>Nor being mainstream didn't stop me from using Linux in 1998The parallel isn't great. In 1998 Linux, which wasn't mainstream, was being actively developped, whereas X11 in 2026 isn't. Unless you use the Xlibre fork I guess. But hey, use whatever you want if it suits you better. I also thought screensavers were a thing of the past to prevent burn ins in old screens, but I guess a lot of people on this board like using very old systems.
>>109934007It just werks.
>>109934032You mean Linus "Vibeshitter" Torvalds?
>>109936121>dead linkthe joke writes itself
>>109939176fixed it for you anon, it's my hobby distro and it works for me.
I stuck to debian and ubuntu from the start and never felt the need to distrohop.
Gentoo. I have no reason to try anything else anymore.>OpenRC as first-class init system>default profiles, even desktop, even plasma, work with -systemdDo I need to say more?
Unfortunately NixOS. The declarative meme is a hell of a thing to fall for and I'm too retarded to deeply Guix for every use case.
>>109939364How long does it take to upgrade your browser anon?
>>109938349Screensavers fall under the rule of cool. And I need one because of the topology of my HTPC setup. The TV multiplexes multiple HDMI sources and outputs the audio to an amplifier. If the screen goes into power saving the audio cuts off as well.
>>109934007Atomic Fedora is the first distro that genuinely just werks for my usecase. Don’t have to fuck around with btrfs and snapper, shit just rolls back if an upgrade breaks.
>>109939461I use librewolf-bin.
>>109934523PopOS is based on Ubuntu. If you want to try other distros besides Ubuntu I would try distros not based on Ubuntu. Debian, slackware, void, etc

>>109939335you can stop talking about shitty, vibe-coded garbage distro now. thanks.
>>109934532Fresh installs and package management are always going to be an asspain. If you want to experience Slackware with sane defaults, minimal extraneous packages, and a working package manager OOTB, try Salix. It's great, and been around a long time.
Arch, albeit I've been using Gentoo for over a year now and somewhat happy with it.>>109934523>fiddling with configs like it's 2003>configsLike editing stuff under /etc? You do that in every distro when configuring servers for example.>>109934069Using Gentoo now, what do you mean by actual package management? >>109942243you can't stop me anon, here is my distro running firefox on a Pi, full cross compilation.
>>109934032I haven't paid for a single window installation ever. Not even windows 7.
>>109944814>just works>yet the author needs to maintain it>automated>which means author does not maintain it, worse AI-tiera walking contradiction of a distro, like a tranny with xeir genderism
>>109944845I don't have to maintain anything if I don't want to retard, I didn't update my pi for one year and it worked just fine. 99% of security fixes are troon tier local exploits that are a non issue on a home pc so all you have to keep up to date is your browser and watch out for remote CVEs (pretty much what debian does).
>>109943771>Systemd beats OpenRC though.>t. using Gentoo with systemdOk, I don't know what I would need systemd for so I use OpenRC.
>>109934007Ubuntu LTS, it just werks(mostly) 10+ years of security updates, so Im not forced to upgrade if I dont want to. Ubuntu has the largest set of eyes on it, so there is better bug reporting, documentation, forum participation etc.
>>109935937>>109936204what do yall use for an init system? I stay on debian but I'm curious about Devuan. Systemd is never in my way at all but I kinda just wanna play around with something else to see if I like it
