As AI is used more and more for software development the overall skill of people making and maintaining software will decrease. In the short term this won't really be a problem. Vibe coding can make a satisfactory product, but just like human code there will be errors and bugs. Eventually the impact of lower developer skill will make the process of fixing bugs, optimizing software, etc (making it reliable and flexible) very hard, and system breaks will be far more destructive.

More fuel to the fire in a world of system breaks.

I genuinely think most people are detrimental to society. Intentionally or not.
And recently someone sent me an obviously AI generated email for work. And I realized I'd rather have an AI companion than his own reply anyway, it's more accurate, more helpful, and easier to deal with. And then I realized this applies to like 80% of the work force. I'm not kidding, I really came to the conclusion that I would rather work with an AI companion, over a human, for 80% of the population.
I haven't thought about it since and don't want to for a little while longer.

AI is becoming like crack cocaine for a lot of people, slowly eating away at the melatonin and brain matter until eventually they can't think for themselves and rely 100 percent on direction in life from an AI agent.

It only has a similar effect to Google frying people's brains by offering a quick answer to difficult questions. Humans were meant to go through a process of trial and error to obtain results, but we're steadily heading into a future where none of that is necessary. It's making people impulsive and retarded as you said, I just don't think it's unique to the introduction of GayI

LLMs are a sick twist on Hegel's master-slave dialectic by removing consciousness from the slave. The original master-slave relation contains development because the slave develops and eventually reverses the relation. Rather, the human is just becoming increasingly passive and removed from the mediating process. The product of the slave's activity creates the appearance of greater capability while the underlying capacity atrophies.

If your thinking occurs through an external intelligence you treat as an instrument, in what sense are you still the master of your own thinking?

AI will either become the mechanism of stagnation or the realisation of our own need to think.
