>AI agent
literally meaningless boomer coded concepts akin to "Internet of things"
>>
>>109944514
Asking my agent to monitor this thread for me. Be in good behavior.
>>

What even is an "agent" anyway? Isn't it just an individual "session" with its own context window and tool permissions, where a user (whether human user or another agent) types prompts and agent runs tools and responds, repeat however many times the user keeps prompting?
Obviously I've heard the word used in context and understand it somewhat contextually but I'm trying to cut through the bullshit here

Cooler sounding then "assistant".

not as cool as bitch tho

the idea of an agent predates LLMs.
An agent is a piece of program that does some task and posesses decision making abilities, which sometimes includes the ability to barter with other agents.
>inb4 if-else statement is an agent
Yea, for a long time "agents" was a more or less buzzword, and arguably still is.

For example, you have a bunch of roombas.
Roomba 1 receives the task to clean the living room. The living room is pretty big, so Roomba 1 puts out a request to other roombas to split the workload. Roomba 2 says it's busy, Roomba 3 says it is charging for 5 more minutes, Roomba 4 says it is doing something else but it is lower priority. Eventually they decide the following: Roomba 1 heads over to help Roomba 4 until Roomba 3 is finished charging after which all 3 go to the living room.

Yeah, agent-based modelling was the cool thing in late 90's and early 00's. Now it's just another iteration of the gay chatbots
>>
>>109944992
Idk if you guys are contrarians or just super boomer brained. AI agents are basically the platonic idea of an agent.
>Muh gay chatbot
Text is just the form factor for the blackbox communication. You can in theory train agent train literally anything, yes everything no limits whatsoever, just question of scale and training data. So calling it just a gay chatbot means nothing because you can make that gay chatbot convert the words into anything.

can an AI agent suck my dick?
>>

...can you?

Always someone with a reddit tier take whenever I ask a question
Obviously everyone understands the metaphor, I'm asking what it means technically within an AI context specifically. I can barely even get a straight answer to this question out of ChatGPT, I've tried asking multiple different ways

to boomers an agent is literally something that gets shit done

in reality, all it is is an llm being able to run a python script to send out calendar invites or something. obviously the whole thing is flawed because you can do this shit by yourself, and an agent can fuck it up spectacularly

but boomers dont care

it's honestly very uninpressive.

I have serious issues with agentic AI and recursive self learning but I guess the industry is going full speed ahead so w/e
>>
>>109944821
It's just an infinite while loop spamming prompts until it feels like exiting.

The average IT guy has had the ability to automate 80+% of workload for the average excel using white collar job for 25 years but for some reason that has never interested any managers but suddenly letting everyone have an AI agent that increases the total cost for the company by a wide margin to almost do the same thing is suddenly a great idea according to the same managers.

I wish autistic people wanted to be managers and was picked for such positions to cut through all this bullshit.

There are even memes about it on TikTok now

>The average IT guy has had the ability to automate 80+% of workload for the average excel using white collar job for 25 years
... and somehow they never manifested this ability except through making subpar CRM slop that actually just creates more handwork. Certainly I've never met an IT guy who was like "sure, let me whip up some quick scheduled scripts to do all that for you" "just drop the Excel files in this folder and click on process.bat and it will automagically do a week's work"

And don't tell me it's because of managers, even when the managers give them free reign and BEG them to automate the workload in any way possible they waste 5 years making useless/unusable bullshit webapps. Just look at the kind of SaaS B2B garbage that's selling for $500/mo/user because inhouse devs can't even compete with that.

I've personally done it and I also personally knows a guy who automated away an entire department.
