Personal Home OS history:>Windows 95>Windows 2000>Windows XP>OS X Snow Leopard>OS X Lion>OS X Mountain Lion>OS X Mavericks>Windows 7>Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSC*(I) am here*I’ve managed Linux only on servers, mostly Debian for decades. Considering switching to Linux on the desktop too. Rocky Linux 10 Workstation, I think.>Tries GNOME live ISOWell, not bad, I guess. UI is a bit tablet-like, very big padding everywhere, but still looks very polished, it reminds me of my time with OS X, which I remember fondly, especially Snow Leopard. It seems very opinionated, but with good defaults.>Tries KDE live ISOWhat the fuck is this ugly mess? Is it only loved by noobs because it looks like modern Windows, but somehow even worse? I can’t see how anyone with a minimum of taste could choose this DE. Yuck. To use this, I’ll stick with Windows 10.
Try xubunty live ISO and see if you like xfce.
Why can no freetards ever design a good UI? It can't seriously all be blamed on autism.
>>109945687and what UI is good because it's definitely not windows or mac
>>109945708Clearly better than anything Linux has because all the DE's copy Windows or Mac, and the most popular themes are Windows or Mac themes.
xfce is very close to perfection. it just needs better wayland integration.
>>109945818they should just use labwc
>>109945627That's a lot of words just to make a KDE anti thread.
>>109945633>>109945818I installed it on my laptop, and its almost perfect by default, I just removed that bottom panel and changed some shortcuts to be more like kde. Also couldn't find out if you can open a terminal in thunar like you can pressing f4 in dolphin, that thing is way too useful and I might end up installing dolphin and konsole just for that.>>109945687Good UI is the thing you're used to, if you only use mac, that will be your standard for UI, I almost vomit everytime I have to use something with windows 11 even thought the thing I used the most is kde, which is supposed to be copying it.
>>109945627>Tldr: Im a gnomefag and KDE is le bad and shit
>>109945719The most popular themes are the default themes, by a very, very large margin. Probably less than 10% of KDE/GNOME users install 3rd party themes. At most people might swap the fonts, icons or cursors and nothing else.>>109945627>claims KDE is ugly>claims Windows 10 looks acceptableYour opinions are shit.
>>109946515>claims Windows 10 looks acceptableNobody said that. I wouldn’t be considering switching from Windows if I had claimed that.>>109945908>Im a gnomefagYet I said:>tablet-like>big padding everywhere>very opinionatedI’m nothing, I’m just trying new things.
>>109945633Fippy>>109945903You can open a terminal from Thunar. Just right click while you're in the directory you want and select the option.
>>109946544The best home computing experience of my life was with OS X Snow Leopard. I’d still be using that OS if it were supported. Maybe that’s the reason I resonate more with GNOME at first impression, but it’s still far from SL, based on what I’ve been testing these days. I’ll try Xfce. But, no, sorry, KDE Plasma sucks, it's very unpolished.
