>Anthropic has 518 billion in effective debt pre-IPO
what the fuck? this has to be some kind of record right?
pretty sure only GE has ever managed to break past 500 billion which was during the 2008 crash and after existing for a century
NOT BEFORE THEIR FUCKING IPO

in fact I looked up if there ever was a case like this and apparently, only spacex and hca healthcare reached a little less than 30 billion in debt pre-IPO.
30. not over 500.

genuinely, what can they even do at this point?
this SaaS shit clearly isn't going to work if it keeps going like this
>>
source:
>Anthropic said it expects to spend at least $518 billion over a decade building AI infrastructure with six partners, according to a confidential IPO prospectus seen by Reuters — a plan that ranks among the largest AI buildout commitments on record.
>The AI lab said in the prospectus that about 80% of that sum is non-cancelable or requires payment regardless of usage. Anthropic is telling investors the commitments are necessary because access to computing power is becoming the key constraint on AI development, as future demand for advanced AI systems is likely to exceed available supply and will be "limited principally by the availability of compute."

It's a tall order but I think made somewhat more realistic when you consider their primary source of income probably is not people paying $20 or even $200/mo, it's enterprises. My wife works at a Fortune 500 company and the management is completely mindbroken by AI. Part of their performance review is just number of tokens spent. The more the better.
>>
>>109946142
umm… you DO realize that they have ALREADY reached $65B+ in annualized revenue, right? Which means they can already afford $50B/year in compute spending. Why are all of you retards so instantly crippled by big number? Why can’t you think for two seconds?

80% of those "commitments" aren't optional
which means that at least 400 billion is effectively debt, it's even worse because they can't even issue that shit as bonds.
in other words, they are fucked if the IPO doesn't pan out the way they need it to or if they start missing payments after the fact.

>>109946823
you're not wrong, but that is also another problem Anthropic might face, apparently about 25% of their 2025 revenue came from 2 companies according to the S-1.

there's a difference between sovereign debt and corporate debt obviously, governments can tax and shakedown corporations and individuals and other options that aren't legal for corporations.

a company has to sell a product to generate profit, unless government makes it legal for corporations to forcefully extort money from the population which could happen I suppose what can happen is they could end up just not generating profit and have zero options to deal with liabilities and end up failing and defaulting on debt.

however this plays out the american government won't want to be seen "bailing out" these companies so some truly horrific comic way of getting money into these companies hands will be crafted by the tech oligarchs

Funny you mention them because 80% of that isn't real. It's just their anthropic stocks being counted up in value, which they cannot sell, which are not subject to market pricing.
>>109946502
>When every person on Earth has a $200/mo subscription
>they'll be making $500 billion every month
No, then they will be losing even more billions per month, because those subs are not profitable.

>>109947068
>>109947013
65B isn't counted with any real accounting rule, so it could be anything. It's most likely their best month or even week counted up.

In real documents they reported Q12026 as 4.73B and Q2 11.5 "estimated".

Seems unlikely they're not at a big loss monthly as in 2025 they spent 13B to get a 4.6B revenue. Kek
>>
>>109947210
>$11.5B in Q2 2026
I love how you added “estimated” while also saying these documents are “real”. If we annualize $11.5B then that’s $46B/year, which again, is already close to their spending needs. You think it’s hilarious that they’re losing money but that was the plan the whole time, and yet they’re making much more than they predicted.
> Seems unlikely they're not at a big loss monthly as in 2025 they spent 13B to get a 4.6B revenue. Kek
At this point, talking about 2025 numbers is pure desperation. They’re now making more money in one month than they did all of 2025.

I think they'll be fine. Retail retards and a few big speculators will be left holding the bag from all this. It will only become clear later that it's just a bunch of spend with no path to profitability.
>>
>>109947273
A Biggist IPO EVA™ would still only raise $100B or so - they don't sell every share, and some of that cash will be returned to investors.
Which leaves a Co. with - in best case - $100B of cash, $400B+ of debt and a plan to pay it all back by generating income. Income which costs them 200% of revenue at present. Its all a very very precarious setup and op is right in that sanely run companies don't generally tend to carry this level of debt.
>>
>>109947367
$400B over 10 years is just $40B. In Q2 they earned $11.5B, which, annualized, is $46B, so they can pay for all their compute with $6B to spare even assuming that their revenues won’t continue to grow (their Q2 revenue was 3x their Q1 revenue). Now let the cope flow.
>>
>>109947242
>I love how you added “estimated” while also saying these documents are “real”.
Yes something can be allegedly estimated, despite being real GAAP numbers not arbitrary "annualized run rate".
>If we annualize $11.5B then that’s $46B/year,
Then $65B is made up, is it not?
> is already close to their spending needs.
Nope they need to pay more for compute than they get in revenue for plan customers. And they have a huge, growing overhead.
>talking about 2025 numbers is pure desperation
It's the latest verified leak. It's very relevant.
>desperation
It's pretty desperate to have to obfuscate your numbers if they're so good.
>>109947346
>>109947355
Of course this is their plan. IPO and let retail and pension funds hold the bag, then rugpull. This is why it's important we talk about it, so we can protect ourselves. If you're reliant on index funds, have pension funds with exposure, you can cut down, buy safer companies, or hedge by shorting AI (Oracle and coreweave and seconds spaceX are the best right now, imo.)

It's not. You pay interest on your debt. You don't pay interest on future payments.

That's just their commitments. They are making a big loss on everything else, too. We don't know their loss for Q2 2026 but we can expect it to be substantial.

Oracles credit is getting downgraded to junk and anthropic isn't going to be better. Just interest will be a major cost.
>>
>>109947698
>ok, so like, sure, they might be able to pay for compute, which is like the entire essence of the whole operation, but they’re losing money on all the other things too!

openAI routinely raises hundreds of billions
>>
if we look at the actual biggest IPO ever, which was spacex, we get the following numbers, I have differentiated between debt and capital expenditures(commitments) since a couple people complained about the semantics of it:
>debt prior to IPO: 29 billion in debt + 10 billion capex = 39 billion effective debt
>marketcap all-time high: 2.95 trillion
>currently trading at 2 trillion
>spacex raised 85 billion from that
let's be VERY charitable and say Anthropic raises 150-200 billion in the biggest IPO ever.
that wouldn't even cover even half of their non-cancellable debt.

>>109947367
there is one very sneaky trick they're trying to pull though, they're apparently trying to create a founder llc that retains 50.1% of the voting power in the hands of Anthropic's founders, despite them collectively owning only 2%.
so they might actually try to sell, not every single share, but very close to that if I understand correctly.

>>
>>109947793
they don`t `routinely raise hundreds of billions` - they raised about $180-190B total. Ever. And still run at a Gross Margin of near -40%.
Sammys Planned Spending over the next few years is stated as anywhere $750B-$1T. And while a lot of this is circular paper horseshit shuffling between the Usual Suspects, these are still horrendous sums. And no one has a clue what happens when just one of these goes titsup - *both* OpenAi and Anthropic are unlikely to hit planned revenue targets - and a few hundred of these magic $Billions suddenly disappears. And the music stops.
