In reality, GPL licenses are more like libertarian or even agorist licenses that attempt to game the system to ensure the protection of their copyleft nature. In a sense, this is just as libertarians or agorists may use traditional cash or even the banking system for their own benefit (such as selling Gadsden flags on Amazon, or buying GPUs on the black market). It is not that different from piracy, which repurposed a tool originally designed for government and military purposes (internet) to freely share files and thereby ensure their preservation and accessibility to everyone. One could say the GPL has components of libertarian, agorist, voluntarist, and pro-piracy ideals, but of course, Elon is an absolute retard and, to the Powers That Be (whom he LARP as so much) sharing stuff freely and voluntarily is communism. The GPL ensures decentralization, whereas Elon wants more concentration of power by milking voluntarily subsidized free work from cuck licenses and proprietary software. If you promote or use cuck licenses, you're literally giving Elon free lunch. You know who also wanted more concentration and centralization of power? Communists. At heart, Elon Musk is far closer to communism than the GPL is.
>>109950872That would be cuck licenses. It's literally just like that lmao
I don't understand this argument. Can't you just look at the license before adding the files to your code? Or aren't you allowed to know it's GPL until after you've shipped? Surely nobody is legally obliged to use GPL.
>>109949719What if we make a 4geg license or something
>>109951449The GPL is anti-freedom—simple as.
>>109951488People get unreasonably upset when you tell them there are conditions for using your work. The funny thing is if you charged for it they would stop complaining.
>>109951509>—Elon pls
>>109951542I still don't get it. Is it about possible lawsuits because they find out that someone somewhere wrote very similar code, suspiciously similar, and think they just took it despite the GPL? Because I've often come across code I thought was mine, but then realized it's just the optimal solution that everyone knows how to do.
>>109949719he's right. Copyleft licenses are only pushed by narcissistic control freaks. Only MIT/Apache 2.0 and CC0 are truly open source
>>109951696>narcissistic control freaksLike Elon, or your average tech billionaire?

I quite enjoy the definition of "literally" being transformed into "not literally"
there is literally nothing wrong with communism
why is it that all the people ive seen who actually hate gpl are communists. they always insist on mit or similar instead.

>>109951767Anon, SpaceX and Tesla get nowhere without Linux...
>>109951658The argument is not made in good faith. Elon is just mad that people license useful things under the GPL which means he can't just take the work and not give back without facing a lawsuit. His entire argument falls apart when you point out that if the things licensed under GPL are just such simple components then why does he even want them. It's just dumb propagandizing about people not doing work for free for big corporations.
>>109951842The FSF is a (left-)libertarian organization, yes.
>>109949719>noooooo! let us just leach for free!!gpl is dual license. want the code without opening up the rest of the box? contact the author and negotiate a private license.
>>109949719Seems another tweet of his just dropped? Looks like he retracted this statement and even licensed the Twitter algorithm under the AGPL? HOLY SHIT it's true! I just checked at the GitHub link he totally sent!https://github.com/twitter/the-algorithm?tab=AGPL-3.0-1-ov-file
