Why hasn't anyone used AI to make an actual usable operating system?
>>
Probably just be some popular techbro and try to get funded by jews when you announce that you'll make an os with Jewish Ai
>>
>>109949950
You no pay.
>>
>>109949950
Seems like a really gay and thankless use of my time.
>>
>>109949950
linux already exist
>>
but that's literally what this guy is doing:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYFGCESmikA

the video has 2 million views, statistically at least one of you watched it
>>
>>109949950
omarchy
>>
>>109949950
AI code is shit. I only use it to churn out slop I would never use claude or whatever on my personal projects.
>>
>>109949950
it's been decade already.
where is jai?
>>
>>109951484
i wouldn't expect it until Q1 next year
>>
>>109949950
I see no reason to use it to make one instead of improving existing ones?
If anything I wonder why AROS, illumos, ReactOS and Haiku aren't making extensive use of it.

Imagine the corpo meltdowns that would happen if ReactOS became good lol.
>>
>>109949950
Omarchy, you faggot ass tranny cuck
>>
Why sokoban, though?
>>
>>109951562
Because it's impossible to design a OS and write it coherently using LLMs. Or are you one of those "LLM can do anything"-type of "people"?
>>

>I see no reason to use it to make one instead of improving existing ones?
This is how I felt when someone told me to use AI to build my own game engine. Instead I tried using it to build extensions for Godot since it's already quite mature, yet lacking in many areas. Somehow it produced nothing but outdated code that threw tons of errors just for simple extensions. I have no idea how people manage to create full games and decompile shit with AI when I can't even get it to write simple godot editor scripts that work.
>>
>>109949950
Because Linux already works.
>>
>>109949950
AI can't make anything legitimately useful. Only slop.
>>
>>109951564
Basically this. Bet there are people on this board that think you're me
>>
>>109951165
>vibecoding absolute dogshit on top of Linux
Yes, 500k+ lines of shitty bash and rust just for stupid rice "le hackerman" aesthetics is what I have in mind when I think of a usable OS, too.
>>
>>109949950
this guy is: https://isene.org
he’s not bothering to make it for anyone else but him, though
>>
>>109949950
Because it can't do it, the code that it is copying is from stack overflow and reddit
There's no code there for a functional OS

AI is really good at making web apps really quickly, since those don't require any skill or thought and there is endless website data they have trained on
>>
>>109952677
You're so wrong it's almost funny. If that were true, how could it write code for things that AREN'T on those sites? That isn't how LLMs work at all.
>>
>>109952713
What? Where do you think that it built its knowledge base from? Magic? The matrix came from somewhere. When you ask it to do something for you and that turns into a value that is near some other value in the matrix, that other value isn't from john carmack personally putting it there.
You know how it suggest things that haven't existed for years? That is because it built a matrix of those things from training data.
>>
>>109952915
You have a very simplified view of how LLMs work. They stopped being parrots a long time ago and if you direct them, they will write the code you need. I've written a number of custom systems of various kinds from scratch and now when I give to LLMs and tell them to add or change something and use conventions of my code and architecture they mostly do that. They weren't trained on my code, yet somehow they are able to adjust themselves and produce what I want.

>>109952915
The whole thing is weird, because according to murrican law, AI code can't be copyrighted thanks to being code not made by humans and machines not having any rights.
But it could end in strange situations like this >>109951562 anon said, in where if ReactOS devs used AI in their OS, they could ironically get help by an AI trained by the very same repos which host leaked Windows code that appear from time to time, and believe, there are some of them there that Microsoft have not deleted yet.
So, ironically, Microsoft couldn't make shit to the ReactOS devs for using AI-generated code, which could might as well be modified Windows code, hosted in the same platform they own (GitHub) because the current law allows it.
>>
>>109949950
I'm sure Ai can code some really efficient and bug-proof hardware drivers
>>
>>109949950
Wait for Omarchy to have a stable release
>>
Why waste time on bing bing wahoos.
>>
>>109949950
The obvious problem that everybody pretends not to see is that things in the real world aren't bottlenecked by intelligence or hard work or even money, but by social phenomenons. You can build a new OS, but you can't get people to actually use it or developers to actually develop for it.
AI not only didn't solve this problem, but it made it much worse, because every new project has to fight tooth and nail to receive any crumb of attention in the sea or generated slop.
Even in the DHH meme you can clearly see this effect. There are probably dozens of new OS being developed with AI, and probably not all of them are as clownish and incompetent as DHH's one, but the only one getting any attention is the one made by the controversial eceleb lolcow.
