How do women walk in those pointy narrow shows, it looks like torture.

Men think in terms of practicability. "These shoes feel comfortable, have a firm grip, keep my feet warm and don't tire me out on long walks". Women, on the other hand, primarily care about looks and social status. "These shoes make my legs look longer and my ass bigger. And they are more expensive or at least look like that compared to what Jannet has."

nta, but yes. I basically fell into that, originally applied for a technical position, ended up landing management. >>109957571
Anyone who still calls themselves "frontend developer" in 2026 is just gone. Nowadays you're either a fullstack AI engineer or jobless.
>>
>>109957592
Then I guess I’m going to be jobless and unemployable from now on because I’ve spent my entire life doing nothing but frontend, over 20 years now including the time I did it as a hobby before it became my career. I have no other skills and I’m not smart enough to acquire the skills needed for modern backend programming. If it was just writing php and sql queries like back in the 2000s I could manage it, but the sheer amount of frameworks and services you need to be an expert in today to do backend is absolutely insane.
>>
>>109957665
I guess you should just quit if you're too stupid to adapt with AI.
>>
>>109957702
Adapt to what? Am I just supposed to pass off Claude generated code as my own while pretending to know what I'm doing? Even if I could do that (and I can't because I don't have the lack of morals to convincingly keep up that lie) how long is that going to last before they realize they can just do it themselves and they don't need to pay someone $100k a year just to be a middleman talking to a chatbot?

The thing now is that your job is basically just to figure shit out. Like that's the job. Everything else is secondary. Don't worry about actually knowing things or "passing something off" as your own code. Nobody cares who's code you're using, this was even true before AI (to a lesser extent).
>>
>>109958189
This stuff is way too complex for me to "just figure out" with no experience in it. I was hired specifically as a frontend dev and up until now I've only ever touched the frontend codebase. How could I possibly be expected to contribute anything meaningful on the backend in only a couple weeks of even seeing it? The ticket is insanely complicated and vague too. I just don't see how this can be anything but a ploy to get me to either quit on my own or give them a reason to fire me.
>>
Do I even want a promotion? The only reason I'd get one is that I fear if I'm seen "not dynamic" I'm the first on the list to get the boot, but otherwise I'm content with my salary and workload

>>
>>109958272
You need to make your mind more dynamic. Specialized roles have been deprecated since around mid-2025. Nowadays companies want devs who can use AI to perform all tasks (frontend, backend, infrastructure, cloud, design, security) all at once and work on increasingly complex tasks and projects.
Are you up for that changing job market or not?
>>
>>109958338
Junior -> Mid-level -> Senior pipeline definitely
Anything above that risks your career.
>>
>>109958272
Well you know the situation better than I do, maybe they are trying to fuck you. I deal with backend like 99% of the time and I think it's actually easier than frontend, so if a frontend developer says they can't do it that seems like they might be selling themselves short.

If you can use AI, ask it a bunch of questions about the code (and answer with citations) and have it give suggestions (that you would implement yourself). Don't vibe code, don't let it run hog wild, and don't use anything with "agent" in the name.
>>
>>109958405
>Are you up for that changing job market or not?
No, because it's impossible. It takes a decade of work just to get good in ONE of those areas. No person on earth could ever become good enough in all of those disciplines at the same time. Have you never heard the saying "jack of all trades, master of none"?
>>
>>109958416

Ermmm she's not doing real work, honey
>>
>>109958439
Ever heard of the pareto principle? You don't need to be an expert these days just to get by. AI exists to take off some of your work so you can be more focused on the system and requirements as a whole and solve increasingly complex issues. Don't chase perfection, good enough is where it's at.
>>109958443
Good decision. Avoid management like a pest unless your only skill in life is being a grifter.
>>
>>109958465
>solve increasingly complex issues
How are you going to solve increasingly complex problems if you never advanced past an amateur level of understanding of all the different disciplines involved in that problem?
>>
>>109958483
It's called learning by doing. Your brain makes connections by doing something over and over and eventually the puzzle pieces in your head connect and you get a full picture.
>>
>>109958439
We could have been like doctors and lawyers, but unfortunately the industry has decided to go down another path. We're sewing the tents for the carnival barkers and freak shows, not tailors to the his majesty's court.
>>
>>109958489
Yeah and it takes a long time to learn these things. AI doesn't magically speed that process up. I think it's probably even doing the opposite and preventing people from learning anything.
>>
>>109958493
>not tailors to the his majesty's court.
You've made me imagine Trump walking around naked in front of a crowd, claiming that the clothes are definitely real and only high iq super intelligences such as himself can see them.
>>109958498
Before AI, people either found a solution to their specific problem on SO/forums/youtube/blogs or had to debug for days/weeks until they eventually found a solution or workaround. AI shortens that process to just minutes/hours but you still end up learning a bit by reviewing what AI achieved.
I'm not even the most pro-AI users as some friends using Opus 5.5 have started to completely disregard the review process but nethertheless, AI is the future and the old process is dead.

People on /g/ always complain about pajeets and shit but the truth is mutts are the biggest cancer in tech in international companies. how long does it even take to go from first contact to actually signing a contract with that company nowadays?
around here it's usually
>recruiter contact
>HR interview
>tech interview
>talk to discuss the contract (i think, haven't made it here yet)
but every step is like 10 days minimum, even 2 weeks.
does it really take 2 months (plus your 2 weeks or equivalent) just to start a damn new job?
>>
>>109958624
don't do that anon unless you have something lined up
if you let them lay you off then you'll get unemployment (and maybe even a severance package) but if you quit, you get nothing

Pretty much, we also code test automation suites and do risk analysis. Most days are very comfy except when there's a new rollout. Opening new defects also gives me erections.

Kek I've been fighting tooth and nail to get a chance of being promoted to techlead. The managers that tried to promote me were both demoted and now I report to someone who hates me and doesn't believe I am good enough to be a techlead. I nonetheless involved HR and higher ups and forced him to continue the program that was set for me to "prepare for a potential promotion". There's no chance it ever happens now, but I'm forcing my boss to go through it out of spite.

The latter. They intentionally make the job listing horrible so they can throw their hands up and say "we can't find any qualified candidates!" then be given the greenlight to import an H1Jeet

I suspect that another trick corpos pull is to keep posting, taking down, reposting the same job over and over and over until all the local candidates are so burned that they can finally post the job, get zero applications, and as you said throw up hands up saying "we can't find any qualified candidates". funny thing is that the job market is so bad, people kept applying... so now workday says "oh you already applied to this job"... keep making more email accounts and applying again. fuck 'em.

The cynical ones are too low on the hierarchy to actually be able to do their own work. Usually accountable for something that needs someone elses approval.

And the cockblockers are afraid of someone somehow out-doing them or showing how lazy they've gotten. Or they own some licensing or some shit and getting paid $$$.

The government feels like the military with how rigidly they enforce the hierarchy it's insane

rewrote my resume today from scratch. i was staring at that end date of my last employment. i thought to myself, wow, that was over two years ago, and then it hit me...i think that's a wrap folks.

the irony is that everywhere I've worked, many coworkers have told me I am one of the best developers they'd ever worked with.

it doesn't make sense, but I guess it doesn't have to make sense. that's just the way of the world.

I guess I am telling you this so that you know it's time to move on. I'm going to do some technician trade work as far away from computing as a possibly can.

>claude has been able to write perfect code for over 2 yrs now
even AI shill cope about code quality has been to resort to whataboutism or “it doesn’t matter bro just don’t look at it”. I’ve never seen anyone make a claim this absurd. I can’t even imagine how dogshit of a programmer you have to be to unironically believe that.
>>
>>109962082
yes, I know. the learning part isn't a problem or what bothers me. I just wonder if realistically a licensed PE actually wants a protege or not. I'd like to get one job and just work for that guy until he retires.

I am picturing some rail-thin old guy who is like 65 and plans to work until he's dead, which will be like 80+, and he's dissapointed because none of his sons or daughters wanted to be engineers, and he thinks everybody these days is a fucking retard, and he's just looking for somebody to be a helper who has a brain and respects that his knowledge is actually worth something... and we can chain smoke cigs in the work truck and just shoot the shit shit over a few cups of coffee at 5am waiting for some asshole government man to show up, to give asshole government man the run around, and then get the men back to work.

I don't know... for some reason pissed-off competent people always take a shining to me... maybe because I listen and follow instructions, but have the good judgement for when I am supposed to think for myself too.
>>
>>109958498
You learn by getting in way over your head, fucking up, and fixing your mistakes.
Life's not a video game where you'll get perfectly designed steps to teach you what you need to know.
You get thrown into the deep end and either sink or swim. You're not even trying to swim, and you've been given a life preserver (AI).
You don't have to lie and say that you wrote the code yourself when AI did it. Your manager just wants you to resolve the feature, or at least make some measurable progress. Even if you say you've been learning the codebase and planning what you want to change, that's still better than doing literally nothing.
>>
>>109962043
that is not that difficult if you know the question pattern
>>
>>109961695
Most chinks are on 9-9 schedules, mostly 6 days a week and sometimes 7. Japs for whatever reason only have 6 hours of productive work but work 10's with another 4 hours of team meetings at the bar's afterwork for bosses who don't want to go home to their crappy wives/kids.
