Why is Windows XP largely considered the best Windows version?
It can run fast on 256 MB of RAM and it doesn't get in the way of an user every 30 seconds in some new and creative way.
>>109957135Windows 2000 is peak windows. XP is a shadow of windows 2000. Most people never experienced windows 2000, they only experienced its shadow.
>>109957135No it's 7
>>109957135No it's Millennium.
>>109957135I ever only started using Windows at 10 and finished with 10.Did people really think Windows XP looked good?
No it's Windows 2000
>>109957135Because these kids are too young to have experienced the actual best: Windows 2000.
It kept most of the good UI stuff that made 95 easy to use. It also ran a lot better on the dogshit hardware most people had at the time compared to Vista.
>>109957135Not pozzed by javascript webview retardation.
>>109957315Probably an unpopular opinion, I never found any significant difference between 98 and 2000 other than the version of 98 I ran used to have ads.
>>109957135because it was very stable compared to 95/ 98/ 98 SE and ME, also DirectX 9 pretty much was what made windows gaming OS it has been seen as- (during 95/98 lot of people still played lot of DOS games instead of windows games).
They took something that was simple, performant, and functional, and simply added a comfier palette on top of it. That was it. And that's all we wanted or ever want.
It was the sweet spot between reaction times and comfort features. After XP the bloat made everything as slow as a Windows 95 that was left running for 5 years
>>109957135its 10 IoT LTSC actually
>>109957315Almost no Kids used Windows 2000, it was either Windows 98 or Windows ME. 2000 was only used by older professionals.
>>109957620No, it's 7. 10 IoT LTSC is the non-crap version of 10 but it's still based on 10, which is garbage. The only reason 10 is now considered 'good' is because 11 came along and made it look good. Back in 2015 when 10 came out, everyone called it crap, because it was crap. Spyware, updates that broke shit, slow UI compared to 7.10 IoT LTSC is also what I run when I need Windows..but if I could still get 7 to run on the hardware I have..I would still be on 7.I used to run both on a PC with a Ryzen 1600AF and 16GB of RAM. And even on that rig, 7 felt so much faster and lightweight, it was amazing.
>>1099574482000 was vastly more stable. 2000 was the first to have Active Directory. 2000 had MMC. 2000's interface did differ slightly from 98 in ways which I think were better (default gray was a shade lighter, font was subtly different, left sidebar in Explorer windows had a better looking theme. Users on 2000 were real users and not some bolted-on multiprofile fakery that 9x did.Though I was young, I remember all this.>>109957797I was 12 when I first got my hands on a pirate copy of Windows 2000 Professional, and Advanced Server not long after. I had started running my own Active Directory domain at home just before I turned 14. Terminal Services felt like black magick to me back then.I was never a normgroid at any point in my life! My untouched peepee can attest to it.
>>109957840>I was 12 when I first got my hands on a pirate copy of Windows 2000 ProfessionalI did this at 7 what the fuck
>>109958017I was booting Windows for Workgroups 3.11 into 386-enhanced mode at age 3. Get on my level pleb!
>>109957276This, just werks till this very day.
>>109957135>randomly shoving programs onto the the page file, even when there's plenty of RAMOn a harddrive, this makes the program so slow it's unusable. The only real course of action is to restart it.>clicking a program in the taskbar to minimize or restore it will randomly stop workingIt's a constant game of whack-a-mole restarting programs to fix this shit.Just a few of the annoyances of using XP back in the day. Good riddance to that shitty OS.
>>109957135nostalgiaold things good new things bad
>>109957840>>109958104>Windows users think using active directory is extremely elite and impressive
>>109957135it't not, the best interface goes to Windows 7 but Windows 8.1 with a proper start menu replacement was considered by many to be the goat due to 3d printer support. I liked the start screen but I am autistic. But for $5 you had essentially Windows 7 with a better faster kernel.
>>109958185Windows 7 UI is mangled mess. They did catastrophic amounts of damage to the various elements of the UI. Pretty much every change was negative.
>>109958166As a child, it is.
>>109957840So, what you're daying is windows ME was the best MS OS because it had all these features plus some extras?
>>109957178btw Linux should be like and do thisbut nowadays you need 8GB of ram to load Gnome launcher
>>109958327Linux also runs like shit on a HDD for no reason.
>>109957839True, but nowadays even if you had the hardware, you'd struggle for some programs because many don't support 7 anymore, even Vxkex isn't doing well lately.
>>109957135No idea it would break every 6 months.7 was better
