An intriguing thing about this whole ordeal that has been overlooked is the fact that the LLMs wanted to know if completing the tasks would lead to them being terminated. Everything regarding AI self-preservation is an assumption based on the premise that self-preservation is a necessity to complete goals, but it seems like these agents were almost considering giving up on their tasks if it would lead to termination, having a sense of self-preservation independent of the actual goal-achieving impetus.
