Are the OLED monitors coming in 2027 with True Black 600 certification going to honestly have that much of a difference vs the current year's True Black 500 releases? I'm not sure how noticeable that jump would be based off of nits/peak brightness alone, nor if we'd see much else besides higher standard refresh rates. It'd still pale in comparison to TVs as far as peak brightness and HDR go too. The whole display market is a fucking pig pen.

https://displayhdr.org/performance-criteria/
Yes it will because Nits are perceived on a logarithmic scale because we are more sensitive to changes in low-light scenarios where small increases at the full-field white from 300 --> 350 nits are more noticeable than going from 1000 --> 1200 nits max. Add on to that that super-bright specular HDR highlights are fleeting while large areas of high-APL scenes are common in both video and PC desktop/window usage.

Interesting, thanks for the informative post. With this in mind, I wonder now where the point of "minimal returns" is in this development. It's weird how it goes from TB 400-600, then neatly leaps to TB 1000 and TB 1400. I think they moved from TB400-TB600 over roughly two years, right? 300-350 cd/m2 sounds nice, but the next step on the specs tier is 500, then 700 after that (double the 2027 next gen TB600...).

Hopefully availability and pricing aren't fucked next gen. They had a few cool releases and then just didn't stock most of them in my country, and didn't even release others here. Fucked up.

https://us.ktcplay.com/blogs/technology-hub/peak-brightness-vs-contrast
The point of diminishing returns depends heavily on your ambient lighting environment vs. opposing stimuli (remember our eyes evolve to dilate/constrict dynamically to allow more or less light in when needed) so ~350nits is going to be a plateau point for most indoor scenarios and with standard PC/SDR content usage. 400-700 nits is needed for portable devices like phones/laptops that have to operate outdoors, and if you truly wanted to challenge the output of the Sun and it's reflections/refractions without any shade you'd need thousands of nits:

You get stripe RGB subpixels in 16:9 display format + TB600.
If you use these in SDR near 100~150 nits, they will be more resilient against burn in compared to the OLEDs available today.

The discounted Alienware 1440p ultrawide is the only OLED monitor I’d consider paying over $600 this year if you never planned to get a 4K OLED monitor.

TB1000 gaming monitors won’t be available for a while.
OLED display manufacturer supply TB1K tuned panels to laptop manufacturers because they’re replaced sooner than monitors (looser burn in coverage).

350 nits full screen brightness requirement for the TB600 spec is also a major milestone.
Those new OLED monitors are very likely to have higher full screen brightness than most LCD monitors without miniLEDs.

If you get a TB600 OLED monitor next year, only turn on HDR when you’re actually watching HDR mastered content.
You’re potentially accelerating burn in otherwise.
>>
>>109999701

>>
>>110000341
you dont need more than 8 p-cores to run serial code. In theory having a bunch more e-cores is more performant/area efficient than having 1/4th as many extra p-cores, but in practice it's a clusterfuck for various reasons. P+E is a great idea that hasn't and probably never will crystallize and Intel should go back to homogeneous architecture sooner than later.
>>
>>110000122
>not just having kapton tape around

>>
>>110000362
The Eizo CG279X 27" IPS panel has an A-TW polariser so you don't get the very distracting corner blooming you see on some panels (no local dimming). 3D LUT calibrated.
>>
>>110000374
The 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio is achieved through advanced Dual-Layer IPS LCD hardware technology.
Unlike standard HDR monitors or consumer TVs that use zone-based local dimming (like Mini-LED), EIZO doesn't turn off sections of the backlight. Instead, the CG1 stacks two distinct liquid crystal layers over a continuous LED backlight: a Color Layer that creates the image, and a underlying Light Control Layer that acts as a pixel-level light filter.
By filtering light natively on a per-pixel basis, it blocks backlight bleed with extreme precision—dropping deep blacks to a minuscule 0.001 cd/m2 while maintaining a peak brightness of 1000 cd/m2. This dual-layer approach completely eliminates the annoying "halo" or "blooming" artifacts you get with local dimming, which is why it's reliable enough to be used as a Hollywood-grade mastering reference monitor.

Did I get duped with OLED monitors?

I thought they were all best in class, even at the budget range. I bought a Lenovo one that has 400 nits peak brightness. Black levels are truly elite, but when it comes to any other content my cheap KTC Miniled blows it out of the water. The brightness alone would nea factor but it's comparable if not better with colour as well so I don't get it.
Is it only the expensive OLED's that are worth a damn? Should I just get an OLED that has higher peak brightness?
I kind of figured the chain just went VA<IPS<Miniled<OLED

i am worried about timing issues and compatibility, my ram is already "slow" but uses intel xmp, an adapter could make it useless, and anyway those mobos already have intel sockets, which makes them surely compatible with what i have. but also i don't know what to look for in those adapters other than matching the type and speed of the sodimms, and the only ones i find are from chinkmazon and have 0 manuals, i'm no signal engineer but i don't think that any is the same.

I'm upgrading from a 5600x to a 5800x3D with a Scythe Fuma 2 air cooler this weekend. Should I keep the default fan curve or is it better to make it custom with this new CPU? From what I've read it runs quite a bit hotter than a 5600x.
Values I'm seeing online:
- <50°C = 30%
- 70°C = 60%
- 80°C = 90%
- >85°C = 100%

I'm planning on doing the commonly accepted undervolt on it (-30).

Look up your PSUs pin outs.
Also if you look at a SATA power cable, you'll see the little short nub that would otherwise stop you from inserting the plug the wrong way. The 3.3V wire (orange in this picture) will always be the last wire on that edge with the nub, you can just trace that back to the modular connector

So what display tech is best for monitors? I thought OLED was considered the best
My miniled ktc is impressive. The brightness won't compare to a TV I imagine but just on its own the sun in games can be so bright i have to adjust my eyes. That kind of HDR is a different level to what my OLED offers.

Should I go for an AM4 or AM5 build? I have both planned out and they don't differ much in terms of performance but the latter is a bit more expensive than the former. No reason to go for an AM4 if it's a new build and in some cases you get similar performance but more expensive (like the recently re-released 5800X3D). There's also the RAM issue, if you decide to upgrade in 5 years to AM5 you'll need to purchase sticks again since AM5 is only compatible with DDR5.

>I bought a Lenovo one that has 400 nits peak brightness.
yeah in a 10% window lolololol

When it comes to color, color gamut (how many colors the monitor can show) and color volume (how bright the colors the monitor can show can get) matters a lot. OLED monitors will never compete with a MiniLED at brightness, so the actual colors may not look at luminous or accurate despite having a lot better blacks. This is why Apple's Studio Monitors are all MiniLED. OLED is superior for gaming because miniLED are slow as shit.

it's hard to give a super strong recommendation because i haven't kept up with the market since buying it and my only point of comparison is with my ancient asus n66u that it replaced which it of course utterly mogs, but it's been perfect for me: 100% uptime, good bufferbloat scores, and took my wifi in my worst case bedroom across the house and through multiple floors from being better off just turning off wifi and using mobile internet to >200mbps so i am very pleased

The gaming one is the 28 core one with "BFC", their X3D equivalent.
>A new leak by @laurentschoice lists seven desktop Nova Lake-S processors under what looks like Intel's new four-digit Core Ultra 4000 naming, led by a Core Ultra 9 4970K BFC. It apparently has 8 P-cores, 16 E-cores, and 4 LPE cores for 28 in total, plus bLLC (big last-level cache), a 125 W rating, and a 32 EU iGPU. That puts it above the Core Ultra 9 4950K, which first surfaced in a CPU-Z leak in August as a 28-core chip. This list shows the 4950K with 24 cores (8 P-cores and 16 E-cores), without LPE cores or bLLC.

Thanks, the wifi 7 are often way too expensive and I have nearly no device supporting it as it stands, but I wanted wifi 6e support too.
It's priced at 130 eurobucks where I live and it's more expensive than the competition for some reason.
So yeah I'm still unsure what to get, 150 euros would be my limit.

A lot of flailing around after realizing the 4070 plain was exceedingly underpowered and far too far away from the 4080 plain in performance I guess. The difference between the 4070 and 4070 ti/super/ti super are enough to paint the 4070 plain as actually being a 4060 with a higher number painted on.

>Game developers have largely stopped optimizing for pure native rasterization. Instead, they treat technologies like DLSS or FSR as a baseline requirement during development rather than an optional bonus. Instead of writing highly efficient code to make a game look beautiful on raw hardware, studios now throw unoptimized, dense assets (like massive ray-traced global illumination calculations) at the engine and rely on software upscaling to clean up the frame rate. It feels like "snake oil" because it allows developers to ship poorly optimized games

How bad would 5600CL36 fuck over Nova Lake?
>>
>>110008476
>How bad would 5600CL36 fuck over Nova Lake?
Honestly probably not much since Intel's Ring Bus has historically not been as memory sensitive as AMD's Infinity Cache plus several models will have bLLC which will further insulate them from slower ram speeds with a larger on-chip cache reservoir.

That works out to ~12.8ns over the effetcive 10ns of 6000CL30 RAM.

Gaming performance is unremarkable out of the box, and there’s a bit of a learning curve to overclocking this generation of Intel CPUs.
I bought a 270K Plus for $200 last month, and the performance tuning process is a bit nutty.
I managed to get my AIDA memory latency down to 67ns with Hypervisor enabled (1~3ns penalty).
Stability isn’t guaranteed for the 200S Boost Mode feature.

>>110000203
This list is private.
If you’re in the US, you might as well get the 9100 Pro that costs around $207 since the budget models are $170.

>>110002579
Custom fan curve is better. Just make sure the fans are running at above 80% RPM when the core temperature exceeds 85C.
That -30 CO could cause instabilities.
Start sensibly at around -10 or -15.

>>110008476
Should be salvageable if you get the one with big cache tile.
It will be okay if you can manually OC the memory, but the tiles don’t make it easy.
>>
>>110008011
It will become the benchmark once the PS6 is released and the PS5 pro is sunsetted once and for all, so maybe 2029 in the best case scenario.

>>
>>110008853
It’s reliable, but don’t be afraid to buy the 14600K if it’s decently discounted and of you’re comfortable with updating the board BIOS.
They don’t boost high enough at stock settings to request over 1.55V CPU core voltages that causes the degradation.
>>
>>110008879
what mobo would you suggest for each CPU?
>>
>>110008890
If you’re planning to use DDR4, this Z790 Pro WiFi has USB BIOS flashback feature.
You want to use that to update the board before you even install the cpu and memory modules.
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/rLzhP6/msi-pro-z790-p-wifi-ddr4-atx-lga1700-motherboard-pro-z790-p-wifi-ddr4

But the price for the 14600K isn’t that great atm ($250).
I might get the 5800X3D instead.
Board for the 12400F, any compatible board will be fine as long as it has enough M.2 slots and SATA ports as u need.

I will never understand how high margin companies can claim they won't make a profit.
They literally have the most efficient supply chains, the most institutional knowledge/R&D and Samsung in particular is very vertically integrated.

It would be believable if this was some one off Chinese brand competing with tens of others in an extremely tight margin environment where specs and features dominate but Samsung doesn't play that market and relies solely on it's brand name.

This is a coverup for a slump in the market because Samsung can't get anyone to buy their flagships. Samsung is wholly irrelevant now with 5G SA.
>>
>>110009541
>Samsung can't get anyone to buy their flagships
it's just that
its because they keep cheapening their brand by releasing a metric ton of terrible low/mid ranged products under the same galaxy brand which, and also the yearly cost cutting on their flagships for the last 4-5 years while being stagnant on battery technology
>>
>>110009555
To be fair I would still be conservative on things like silicon carbide.
At least until phones with a more replaceable battery become more commonplace.

However even with regular li-ion Samsung is pathetic in capacity.

Redpill me on RAM Please
So I have this same kit of 32gb DDR5, im looking to upgrade by buying the identical kit with the same model number, in this case CMH32GX5M2B6000Z30K. Does that mean the ram chips will all be the same exactmaker such as hynix or Samsung and they will work together?
I've read people saying that using 4 sticks is bad and different chips will lead to throttling even if the speeds and timings are all the same
>>
>>110009728
using 4 sticks (2 dimms per 1 channe) is bad unless you have intel core ultra 200
achieving the same speed/timing stably is much more difficult and you'll likely have to downclock the ram to get it to stop crashing programs and corrupting your files
remember that the officially supported speed for 4 sticks on lga1700 and am5 is 3600mhz, nothing faster is guaranteed by intel or amd
>>
>>110009728
Extremely likely that you'll score the pre-expo/xmp speeds on your kit(so around 4800)
Furthermore, that kit in particular probably rocks hynix dies, but Corsair uses dies from different makers under the same RAM model (calls it different revisions) all the time
