i like to be hopeful, but AI is only getting more powerful and is literally integrated into almost every facet of society now. unless some serious legislation is passed, i doubt that things will ever be the way they were before.
>>110002793>will prices ever go back down?no, this is unironically the lowest they'll ever be
>>110002793Have GPU prices ever gone back down? Has food prices ever gone back down? The answer is no. Why would any business lower prices when the customer will pay a higher one?
Yes, but only when I buy, sorry guys, I am single-handedly keeping the prices up (until I buy)
It's not and evebmn if they fall down I don't think it'll be much of a big difference , and building new factories for them it's also hella expensive that's why we only have few places that can make them I guess I'll still be using my 2008 lenovo laptop
>>110002804>Have GPU prices ever gone back down? Yes>Has food prices ever gone back down?Sometimes they do.
yesle bubble will pop/g/ told me so
They'll be forced somehow to decouple ai hardware from consoomer hardware at one point, in a few years hardware both normal people and corpos got when prices were cheaper will start going out of comission and everyone will start screaming
>>110002820No, they don't. Can you still buy a Big Mac at its original place + inflation? Nope. How about a house at original price + inflation? Nope. A 980 Ti, the best GPU at the time was 917 adjusted for inflation. Can you find a top-tier GPU since on launch with a cheaper price? Nope.Prices always go up because people are willing to pay it.
>>110002802I guess I will own nothing, rent the 5080 from Nvideo GeForce Now, and be happy.
>>110002811i have a 2010 dell vostro lol
>>110002876Honestly they aren't that bad for the most part, just change it to Linux and they work just as fine (unless you want to play heavy games)
>>110002862GPU prices did drop after the mining craze subsided and the AI craze didn't start yet. Will they ever drop to the "old" levels? No, they won't. But there's assurance that they will stay on the same level forever.DRAM prices dropped several times before back when the cartel did the same shit. We can't say for sure whether it will happen again, but we certainly can't claim that they will stay at current levels forever, that's just braindead doomerism.
>>110002882i run winxp and play abandonware on it, some parts of it are kind of fucked but i've been repairing it, it works like a charm!
>>110002793They simply turned off the machines making DDR4 (they're still installed btw and can be turned back on at any time!) and immediately jacked the prices up 100% a month until it cost 5x as much because the prices bottomed out... what do you think?
why aren't antitrust laws enforced anymore?
>>110002793>will prices ever go back down?dram production is largely automated so they should go down eventually.
>>110002883>Will they ever drop to the "old" levels? No, they won't.Thanks for admitting I was right.
hopefully never
>>110002793sorry bub, the boomer rats said robots need 200gb memory and terrabytes of ssd.you will own nothing and be happy, but you will be able to rent gpus and only use them for jew approved tasks.
>>110002843nope you will be forced into streaming hardware
>>110002793When demand destruction takes place. The whole IOU shitstorm by ML companies is going to crash very hard once operational costs sink in and their subscription models cannot keep it afloat.
>>110002793>integrated into almost every facet of society now.I never used it and never will. It's about as impactful as nfts or the metaverse. Completely worthless.
>>110003204based carpenter anon
>>110003209I'm actually unemployed and on welfare. No idea why people use AI.
>>110002802>>110003005Very midwit take that ignores basic economic incentives. Even more so since prices staying high implies increasing usefulness of AI, which is already being used to improve and develop the production process itself.
>>110002793Long term they will, computing progress is all about making more compute per dollar, but I doubt it'll happen anytime soon lol
>>110002793look it from the bright side, prices will never be this low again
>>110002804>Have GPU prices ever gone back down?yeah, they dropped a lot after coof
There's no economic or corporate solution to this, it has to government. I'm sure this will piss off the based and redpilled brigade, but this is how the history of humanity plays out.Theoretically the Democrats can come back in office in the US at some point with a strong enough election result to start regulating AI companies and their circular economy, but it's years away. And it's a bit of a pipedream that enough of them won't be bribed by these companies. Buy now if you can afford it while still having food to eat, it's not going down for years.
>>110002862>because people are willing to pay itBut why?
>>110002889>can't play 1080p porn without buffering yawn
>>110002793yep, shortly after the guillotine parties
>>110002862At least the Bic Mac and house can mean roughly the same product. How much does a 980 Ti class GPU cost now? Few hundred bucks. Comparing best GPUs available to consumers is also misleading since the product class has expanded. 5090 is a big thirsty brick even compared to a 980 Ti.It's like saying older cars were a much better deal because there is now a street legal car that goes 280mph that is very expensive.
>>110002802I need to buy as much as I can right now. Just like real estate. Prices never go down. So I need to leverage as much as I can in order to attain more memory RIGHT NOW
>>110002804Actually ya the prices sold for chicken breasts one month that is high. Go down the next month. Or do you think all goods and services always increase in price always at the same time?
>>110003120What do you mean by forced?
>>110002862Prices for homes are down from their highs.
>>110003164YOINKS!!!
>>110002843What will that do? Ultimately the chips are still the same, changing the carrier board isn't going to relieve the bottleneck at the chip fabric.
>>110002896How else are politicians supposed to get rich?
>>110003544Is the price of a house built & sold in 1980 + adjusted for inflation the same as it is today? No, it's MASSIVELY more expenses today in comparison to what it should be.
>>110002793>2024 vs 2026feels good :)
>>110003684Okay but why are they down from their highs. I thought prices only ever go up?
>>110003684> more expenses today in comparison to what it should be.What determines what the price of something "should be?"
>>110003684Anotha one. How does money come into existence? Sorry for slamming so many questions at once. Each of them are pertinent to you.
>>110003260>No idea why people use AI.To not look like you
>>110003684>The boom gets started with an expansion of credit>The Fed sets rates low, are you starting to get it?>That new money is confused for real loanable funds>But it's just inflation that's driving the ones...>Who invest in new projects like housing construction>The boom plants the seeds for its future destruction>The savings aren't real, consumption's up too>And the grasping for resources reveals there's too few>So the boom turns to bust as the interest rates rise>With the costs of production, price signals were lies>The boom was a binge that's a matter of fact>Now its devalued capital that makes up the slack>Whether it's the late twenties or two thousand and five>Booming bad investments, seems like they'd thrive>You must save to invest, don't use the printing press>Or a bust will surely follow, an economy depressed>Your so-called "stimulus" will make things worse>It's just more of the same, more incentives perverse>And that credit crunch ain't a liquidity trap>Just a broke banking system, I'm done, that's a wrap
>>110002793No.
>>110003739If I sold a paperclip for $100 and then dropped the price to $95, would you be okay with it because "it's down from its high" or would you say it's massively expensive still?
>>110002793I know soldered ram sucks but it's the only way I could think of making our own RAM. I mean I permanently soldered a hard drive to a sata port and it still works. This should work on a perfboard.
>>110002843Just like micron?Oh wait
>>110003743Original price + adjusted for inflation to current year. If the 2026 price is higher than that, then it's more expensive than it should be.
>>110002862>mcdonaldsgo eat some real food you retard amerilardfruit and vegetables, meat, fish, whatever, price goes up and down all the time depending on season and weather conditions
>>110003753You want to go over the entire history of currency? NOPE, you can wikipedia or AI that shit. Even then you won't get the full history since written human history is missing ~292,000 years of information.
>>110003665When consumers no longer have access to enterprise grade hardware they'll go from complaining about prices to complaining about the government. Basically nothing will change.
>>110003883>he doesn't understand what an example isGoddamn, your IQ must be single digits. Go back to 1st grade special ed and try to learn something.
>>110002862yet salaries are still exactly the samereally curious, that one
>>110003900Food analogies always failAnd you are still fat ameritard
>>110003914Salaries aren't the same. Compare it to previous decades and it's lower, as is the buying power by magnitudes. Boomers used to do work side jobs in their early teens getting paid inflation adjusted 25+ dollars an hour.
>>110003930You continue to prove you have a single digit IQ>muh fat americanYou do know that the entire western world has high rates of obesity, right? So if you're not in East or Southeast Asia, your country also has a high rate of obesity. Then again, I don't expect you to know that because you're actually retarded.
>>110003299>democrats will help usNobody is on your side, it’s just greedy jews all the way down Hillary Clinton is a part of the Walmart cartel of all things, they love creating poor retarded people that vote for them
>>110002793no, prices for no product or service have ever returned to pre-boom levels. maybe for a temporary increase due to an extreme situation like poultry and eggs during the bird flu but that was an absolute exception.
>>110002793Not if desperate retards with no self control keep paying those prices.
prices are coming down right now. just wait.
>>110003986>just waitLet me guess, another 2 weeks?
>>110002793A little but it will remain retardly expensive. I bet on it settling around $20 to 25 a gb of ram and $100 a tb of storage
To the people saying “why would they lower prices if people are willing to pay these prices?” and the short answer is they aren’t. Stores have been sitting on inventory for a while because no one in their right mind would ever pay $1000 for 32gb of ram. Sales on computer components are down across the board, as are sales of laptops and desktops, but components especially are just collecting dust. The store I’m working at has had the same ram sticks sitting in the same case for a few months now because no one will touch them, doubly so for the NVMEs. Consumers set the prices, never forget that.
First step>make all consumer hardware retardedly expensiveSecond step>implement online IDs so nothing is anonymous and everything is trackedThird step>make everything on the cloud so it's even worse than NK & China
>>110004017>consumers set the prices>still believing in supply & demandIf that was the case, they'd be dropping those prices to the floor to move them. Instead, the prices keep going up.
>>110003974OK Zoomer this costs $7k inflation adjusted>but only the previous ten years of history existsShut up.
>>110004038Yeah that’s what a speculation bubble looks like, don’t tell me you actually thought pets.com and beanie babies had real market value. Prices are high because a handful of companies are willing to pay those prices, the second they stop the prices will crash because the consumer segment is already dead.>but they won’t crash!!!They will, the AI economy is so unstable it’s downright comical. It’s literally all circular financing with no real plan to achieve profitability, and it hinges on the production of data centers that are obsolete by the time they get built and Enron tier financing structures. I would call the AI bubble a house of cards but, frankly? The cards are sturdier. All it takes is a single bad news reel or a small downturn and the entire thing implodes because no one has any actual capital, it’s ALL loans and speculation, top to bottom.
>>110004040yes, recency bias does exist but especially the 2008 crash rewrote the rules. you know what would be required for tech prices to get anywhere near pre-shortage, or even pre-crypto boom? a tech revolution that allows manufacturers to exceed demand. and even if that somehow was going to happen those manufacturers would keep it under wraps to keep their bottom line as high as it is right now.
>>110004110They won't crash. Price manipulation and artificial scarcity is a thing. Do you know how many thousands of gallons of milk are poured out by farmers every year? How about how tons of potatoes are destroyed? If they didn't do this you could by both for fractions of the price they do now. Even before AI shit, TSMC would magically have a flood, power outrage, ran out of water, etc. every other year to keep the chip costs up.>muh AI bubbleIF there's a crash, it won't matter. All the major players will get MASSIVE government bailouts, the same the banks did and the airplane industry did before them. They'll keep doing the same shit knowing the safety net will always be there.
>>110002793People keep buying RAM even at the increased prices, so no, they'll never go back down.
>>110003957you look like this
>>110004203If I post a picture that shows a group of only blacks or muslims in a European country, does that mean the entire country is 100% black or muslim?

>>110003871Why was I willing to buy a paperclip at $100. How is the value of something determined?
