Shaving off the last 100~200MHz is usually enough to significantly improve power efficiency.

Because people with older DDR4 systems have been buying them to avoid paying for DDR5 upgrades.
I sold my 14700K recently for more than I paid for it in Amazon.
It’s got the latest Pcores for a DDR4 system, and the voltage risks are manageable if you’re comfortable with tweaking BIOS settings.

I've been thinking about going LGA 1700 instead of 5800X3D all year, especially now as CPU shortage FUD has its latest episode. It may already be too late to secure anything more than a 14600K and B series chipset for all I know.

For about $50 more than the price of a 5800X3D I could get a 14600K with a B760/660 board, even if at least 2-3 Pcie slots and 6 SATA ports are preferable. I thought I could get away with it by then tuning the chips, only to discover this plan may not be entirely feasible as Intel gate keeps voltage and power features to Z series chipsets. 14700K can be had for around 50$ more than a 5800X3D retail. The motherboards become the problem afterwards. But I thought the improvement in single core performance and latency/.1% lows by going back to monolithic would help as much as the extra cores in non gaming workloads.
>>
no offense but amd cpus are a joke. $450-500 for 8 cores that arent even that powerful. intel is selling more powerful cores at 20 at lower price. nova lake is going to destroy amd.
>>
>>110012058
If you just want to undervolt the CPU, you can try to find B- boards that allow VR Load Line Calibration and CPU AC/DC loadlines.
It’s not a full replacement for negative voltage offsets though.

I upgraded from my 5600x to a 5800x3D. Three questions:
- When I removed the old cooler the CPU came with it even though the socket wasn't unlatched, is this bad for the CPU (I'm planning to sell it, all pins seemed fine).
- I used this pattern, is it possible to have air bubbles when installing the cooler? I put it down gently and then jerked it a little then started screwing.
- Should I run a benchmark to make sure it's fine?

Amd is just working their way up to x3d on hedt sockets. Thats been their entire plan from the start. Theres way more money in x3d on server chips than there is on consumer grade desktops.

The future as I see it is intel mass producing mobile laptop chips that top out at the desktop level, while amd corners the hedt market that dips down into the desktop space. Amd seems completely un-interested in producing anything in the mobile space other than glorified minipcs and Intel is going to transition a large part of their fabs into producing ram and storage.

Monitor question. I'm looking at replacing a pretty meh 400 nit """HDR""" monitor with an actual HDR monitor. I don't need a high refresh rate (120 or even 60 is fine), and I can do either IPS or OLED. I want 4k and 32' with good HDR.
What's the verdict on ASUS ProArt? I'm specifically looking at the OLED PA329CDV and the PA32UCR-K. Former has DisplayHDR True Black 500, latter is IPS but DisplayHDR 1000.

the updated fo32u24 is like 50€ more and is the new panel and better
it has a hdr brightness boosting mode also and thedisplayguy mains that monitor and shills it, also he got it for free

It all depends on how long the jewish tricks to fund AI works. Once they stop working it all comes crashing down and only a few companies doing AI will be left standing, like Google and Microsoft who will then buy out all the data centers they could ever need from the ones who failed. That should be a huge hit on the corporate memory demand which will drop memory prices that in turn will increase the consumer demand. Basically it will stay high for a while and when it starts coming crashing down, it will be a slow fall because all the consumer demand is suddenly unleashed

Check the technical docs. Your issue's answer is most likely hiding in their if it's truly a hardware issue. jesus fucking christ, you guys were right, buying a prebuilt is actually cheaper now (implying the ram in the prebuilt is not CL48, which i will ask the vendor about), but here's the thing, i panicked and last year i bought a PSU and a 5060ti 16gb that i don't really game with because it's plugged into my ddr3 system (i only have been emulating ps2 games), and im eyeing a prebuilt for a decent price but it also has the same 5060 ti 16gb, it would be cheaper than buying all the other stuff i need to make use of the 5060 ti i own, but i'd be left with a spare 5060 ti. i shamelessly asked gemini ai what to do and it told me to sell both of them and buy a 5070 ti with that money, that sounds very nice and reasonable, should i do that? i don't know how long it'd take me to sell them in my third world country if im selling them for slightly less than the current prices, they sell new for 715usd, im thinking about selling each for 550usd, would i be underselling them too much?

How do I know if a graphics card is a good card functionality wise? It can't just be because of big number.

I mentioned that my GPU is a AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT.
I didn't mention the Gigabyte part though.
According to one anon, RDNA3 is bad.
Is my card bad?

And in the future if I ever upgrade with current prices how do I know if the graphics card I am about to buy is good?

a gpu consists of a gpu chip, vram and a motherboard
in your case, the gigabyte 7800xt is
>chip: radeon navi32 (what amd markets as the rx7800xt)
>vram: 16gb gddr6 running at 19.5Gbps / 256bit bus width
>motherboard: gigabyte gaming oc / aorus

to judge a gpu's performance, all you'd need to know is the chip it has as vram is strictly defined by amd/nvidia and don't vary across models, and different motherboard models only have a minor +/-5% effect on performance (mostly differentiated by noise)

I'm kinda surprised to see 5000 series cards in the top spots. It's such a dogshit generation except the 5090, I don't really understand why so many people are apparently upgrading to it.

What I mean is that basically every performance tier other than the 5090 was already available with the 4000-series cards years ago, or even the 3000s. Anyone who wanted 5070, 5060 or 5060 Ti level of performance could have already had it years before the 5070 even released, why did they need to wait for a product line that basically didn't advance at all to buy it? Could've easily bough one of the 4070 variants years ago, they're basically the same shit, why did people wait this long only to apparently upgrade now when they're getting wallet raped for doing so?

It's not like they were waiting for better performance, it's not like they were waiting for lower prices either, they just fucking waited for no reason and chose to upgrade right now when the market is tearing them a new asshole for buying a graphics card. Very, very strange.

And no, DLSS 4.5 is not as good on 4X as it is on 5X, never will be, nor is anything future released.

if you are waiting for the next gen and you are not waiting for the top card you are pretty much retarded yes since the performance already exists

are people retarded? the answer is Yes!

but 5000 series gave some QoL like they fixed the display connector so you can use dsc and dsr together and also u got a dp2.1 connector, but not many even care about these features that bought them probably

>>110020427
>But it isn't?
It's the worst gen NVIDIA released in at least a decade. A 5080 is only 10-15% faster than a 4080S, even the 5090 is only 25-30% faster than a 4090 on average. These are complete gutter dogshit performance improvement numbers gen-on-gen, NVIDIA has not made such a bad generation of cards in at least 10 years. People shat on Turing relentlessly for the shit perf boost and a 2080 Ti was 30-40% faster than a 1080 Ti. Back then that was considered really bad, now retards like you suck shit straight from Jensen's ass for like 25% better performance on a card that uses 600W and is more expensive too.

I'm running a 4790k with 32 GB of DDR3 and SATA SSDs with a 2080ti
I've got a new case but no other new parts, would it be worth upgrading to a new mid-tier CPU and RAM but keeping the GPU and storage the same?
I use it for a variety of tasks and would boot multiple operating systems including Windows (10 or 11?) for gaming with friends and Photoshop, and Linux or BSD for fun, coding, music storage, etc.

Or should I just buy all new shit and get as high tier parts as I can afford?

I guess I can hear all kinds now that everything is more quiet but still it bothers me. the noise stops if I unplug the gpu and use the igpu so I am pretty confident it's the gpu. claude reasoned that it's coil noise from programs accessing the sensors but it's inconsistent. sometimes it's a periodic tick, others it's three ticks in a row, then silence and then once very 5 seconds https://h.uguu.se/YNLfsdCv.mp3

the replacement card appears to be brand new as well. only real difficulty in the process is that they never acknowledged they received my old one or alerted me they'd sent out the new one, i had to manually pester the support chat to get any updates at all and they only said "yeah the tracking number shows it arrived (which i already knew) so wait 5-7 business days for an update" and then 2 days later fedex showing up with the replacement

it only now occurs to me i really should have immediately turned around and just sold the replacement card instead of plopping it into my system but oh well

You need to find a reliable intermediary to sell 5090s, eBay isn't enough.

h-how much longer?

waiting is what got people to this point in the first place
you could have bought last year or even two years ago and not missed out on anything because new consumer tech doesn't exist anyways

14700K for $435 or 14600K for $300? Thinking of having this be my next 5 year CPU to replace my 3800X and these chips seem like they have the highest single-core performance I can get with DDR4, if I can find a compatible motherboard.

Overall, I'm thinking of spending $450-500 on a new monitor, and $500-$600 on a new CPU + motherboard combo while I still can.

that cpu used to be free with a 3 game bundle that you could sell

Claude helped me overclock my DDR5 memory, made me a spreadsheet and all.
But it's only as good as the quality of information you're feeding it.

I gained over 35% faster memory read bandwidth than stock, reached nearly 98% of the CPU's theoretical maximum @ 8200 MT/s (131.2 GB/s).
Reduced memory latency by over 10ns as well.

ok but what did you gain outside of artificial benchmarks
>>
>>110023006
Better 1% lows & smoother frame times in CPU bound games.
Tasks that require high memory bandwidth gets completed faster.

i did hear nvme prices might go down in 2027 q2

There was some discounts on some overpriced models so could be true
