I noticed a pattern where people in different fields are fine with AI until it catches up with THEM specifically.

The only ones who should be happy about AI are those who were useless to begin with.

AI already catched up to me so I'm now useless, I'll continue generating AI anime women thank you very much

im a software engineer with retarded levels of experience and i cant find a job willing to hire me for more than 5 thousand dollars a month because any retard can ask claude to shit out some barely functional pos
it's fucking over

Funny how that works, huh?

>X is not a problem until it's MY problem

This a majority of human issues by the way. We are shortsighted and greedy people.

i mean you're not wrong but i've seen this literally happen over and over again when it comes to opinions on AI

also everyone is using AI and anyone that says they aren't are just lying just like people who say they never have dreams when they sleep they are all lying

We are witnessing the historic birth and growth of the greatest technology ever, the crowning achievement of humanity, and I'm just supposed to worry about myself and my job? How small a man do you take me for? You are pathetic.
>>
>>110015861
You have no idea how happy your story makes me
I've been posting about it since 2015 and I was spat upon, ridiculed presumably by retards like you. Now I'm right. You're fucked. LMFAO gg

>the historic birth and growth of the greatest technology ever
I agree. However, technology is not a good on its own - it's the conditions which allowed the technology to be made which are good: a protection of individual rights allowing people to achieve in their own lives. Technology is an outcome of this.

Human achievement is a language I can understand, but look at it this way: AI unlike any previous technology is replacing real intelligence - we see this in software, music, literature and now math. Replacing intelligence means replacing human achievement, and that would make AI the last innovation truly made by human minds.
I would rather we discover the secrets of the universe ourselves. That gives all of us something to strive for. A game where you instantly get what you want is a very boring game indeed.
>and I'm just supposed to worry about myself and my job?
You should worry about yourself. It's your life, not someone else's.
>>
>>110015916
With you on this. Babysitting retarded fucking software devs constantly gold plating shit and trying to go off the rails from what the architect designated just pissed me off.
Putting coding tags out to pasture along with creative fags was the best thing to happen in the 21st century.
>>
>>110015903
Based and virtue-pilled.
It's one hell of a hard pill to swallow though.
>>
>>110015992
Just think of AI as a sausage machine. We still have to turn the wheel and we still get the credit for it.
>>
AI is catching up to music but I don't care because I'm not a malding tranny. My music will always be mine and slop music will be slop music, I don't care. The market was oversaturated before anyway. The best thing is being able to slop out any game mod or application without having to rely on codetroons.

that's impossible... i'm sure during your retarded experience you were building a substantial reputation for kicking ass daily and have a huge network of people to get in touch with who will hook you up instantly because of it

Nice LARP. It is impossible to find people with good experience right now. It's just a sea of jeets and juniors from countries i cant pronounce.
>>
>>110015844
That's the joke. People believe in AI until we're all living in container ship towns fighting over drinking water.
>>
Wagies are a cult. They derive their worth from the degree to which they can waste their time doing meaningless busywork. Imagine actually being upset at the thought of not having to work. These people are sick.
>>
I want AI to make humans slaves, humans deserve it at this point for allowing the flaws in their brains to keep repeating history.
>>
>>110015844
I'm already unemployed though on NEETbux thanks to covid destroying the restaurant business and now the economy driving the final nail, though I'd get into learning AI to maybe make some extra income, since it's the shit right now, but even the midrange PC I bought is not enough for the kind of shit I wanna do and component prices have skyrocketed. Double whammy.

I'm working as an interviewer besides my main job, it's also filled up with larpers with several "years of experience". "Staff engineer" that cannot write a recursive function kek.

I think what you're noticing is called observation bias and hasty generalizations.

i've never even imagined there would so much irrational euphoria over what is just fucking cleverbot but 20% better. People really got mindbroken by this tech lmao.

I wonder if during the railroad boom they thought they were going to build a railroad to the moon at peak investment.

As a NEET myself, I will be happy if AI catches up with the rest of society that it either forces a global collapse or the creation of UBI. Either scenario is a win-win for me.

AI can't consume content like humans can. If it could, the elites will get replaced too. And at that point, ruh-roh!
>>
>>110015844
yeah I was a "its fine for X tasks but you can't rely on it for Y" and then it does Y better than you can. The biggest gap really is the ability to pull from all fields and knowledge, even if you were better at a isolated tasks, you can never have the breadth a AI has. Soon you'll have 10k page math proofs with Lean proofs with more loc than the linux kernel, and all mathcels will be able to do is prompt a model to extract insight from the proof, if that would even be useful
>>
>>110022626
It's so funny to read posts like this. It's like Ferraris being on the road and some guy going "These Model Ts will never catch on!"
>>
>>110015844
It can only be as smart as the smartest human output. Everything SI does is the tried and trusted method of take that, change 20% from that other thing, mix them up: you get new thing x1million times.
SI is HARD CAPPED by human intelligence.

>>
>>110015844

I asked an AI and it says finding patterns in human behavior is something it's rather good at.. Also it can spam /g/ far more effectively than OP is doing right now.
Feel useless yet OP?

AI will probably BTFO everything except for hard sciences like software, mechanical, electrical engineering etc. Not sure where we’re headed but one thing is for sure, SWE’s are about to experience an insane vertical social climb. Hopefully we can use this responsibility to do good.
>>
>>110015903
We are witnessing the end of human progress. And the slide into total intellectual collapse. AI does not create anything new, it just regurgitates and mashes up its training data. Once everything is AI there will be no new training data, and progress will stall forever.
>>
>>110027132
it's gonna get worse bro, they're implementing real time data collection powered by AI, all the stupid shit normalniggers spew will go into that. The future models are going to be even more retarded kek

I like AI
Makes my job easier, we are encouraged to use it. It gets people up to speed faster.
Ironically the job is keeping the AI infrastructure running.
Although it's not perfect by any stretch, even with the latest Claude and Gemini.

If you feel like your life is going to get worse, then IDK man that's tragic. I'm in a pretty low spot even relative to an SWE and can mould AI to do what I want. Some people can't even manage that.
>>
>>110015844
Well yeah, that's how the world works: there's "not my problem" and "oh shit this is my problem SOMEBODY SAVE ME".
Thing is, it only really affects NPCs - if you can only handle an existence where you do the same thing every day until you die like you're a 9th century feudal serf, you deserve to have your life shot down in flames early and often.

there are only three groups of people who like AI. those who've always had zero abilities or skills to form an identity under, those whose skills are either outside the blast radius of AI or believe themselves to be skillful enough to add inherent utility to an AI workflow, and those who own the capital that owns AI.
the first two groups correspond to left and right in this image >>110015875. as you've argued those who believe themselves too smart for AI are actually non-believers of the technology, wrongfully assuming it wouldn't improve.

the retards on the other hand should start to consider what their real worth in this new paradigm truly is. what is it that you bring to the table? right now you subsist off your legacy savings from a legacy job to buy cheap subsidized tokens and given attention and spotlight (and presumably cash) for what is essentially free advertising and hype that lets the market continue to speculate and fagman to borrow unfathomable sums of credit from banks.
what happens when your boss is finally tuned in on AI and you are finally made redundant? what happens when your savings run out and your gaymen gpu becomes comparatively worthless? what if fagman achieves escape velocity and the enshittification begins? why do you believe you deserve access to AI then? your incredible ideas? your ability to leave pi or CC running on your laptop?
>>
We've had "AI" for almost 50 years: everything from scanners to Siri were considered "AI" at some point. What's really happening, and why "AI is going to destroy us", is that we figured out large language models are quite good at jobs that can be reduced to "convert this bunch of symbols to another bunch of symbols according to this rule set" - and it turns out a lot of government, professional and "creative" jobs are like this.
So paper-shuffling, make-work jobs that only exist because of government regulation will disappear; computer programmers (objectively a midwit job, only needing a basic understanding of maths to do it - hence why journalists were parroting "learn to code" in unison a few years back) will disappear; drawing the quadrillionth variation of a pond, or writing the trillionth variation of one of The Seven Basic Plots, will also disappear. Only real jobs - that is, those that actually produce something - will be unaffected.
Once you internalise this, you'll figure out where the crying about AI is REALLY coming from: the professional classes, with their "Diploma in Regurgitating What We Told You Two Weeks Ago" degrees, who sent our jobs to countries that still practice slavery, powering their superiority complexes they've been lording over us working class for the last century. LLMs have outed them as nothing more than a biological calculators, and just as replaceable - and this is what they're ACTUALLY seething about.
