If your site is small it is going to die if people can't chat in it. There must be reason why every altchan isn't running meguca.
What's realtime?
>>110021600your posts show up as you type them so everyone can laugh at your typos
>>110021600you can see the other person typing before they post.
Because realtime interaction just highlights even more that the board is dead.
>>110021616>>110021617No use case. Thread closed/
All the imageboards I've seen that have used meguca (in the past ~3 years) haven't been very good. I don't know. I was left with a bad taste. And it just seems odd to turn imageboards into chatrooms.
>>110021639That's because retards that want to "chat" are better off on discord instead of this trying to tardwrangle imageboards into a bootleg discord
>>110021588Owner of Cyberix Network here..It's because I don't use Meguca.A new site update will include a similar feature in the chat, however.
>>110021588The rise of real-time chats and the resulting fall of forums has directly contributed to the falling literacy rates world-wide.Nobody even on 4chan bothers to uphold proper grammar, which makes the whole website so insufferable to read.
>>110021754clearly you weren't on /b/ in the early days
>>110021750Merging the forum with the chat (which is more active than the forums) allows for good conversations to be saved to the forum while improving its activity. I have a system that automatically separates chat logs by topic and uses our AutoMod model to generate conversation titles. It's perfect. The chatrooms have no concept of message history or archival. Everything is temporal. So, the forum then serves to be its long-term memory + anything else people choose to put over there.
>>110021754Been that way since teen girls got their hands on their nokias and sms cost per word
>>110021771Ok that was soul
>>110021588Stop posting this thread every week. Not everything needs to be a liveboard.
>>110021786ive never seen this thread before sir opposition
>>110021779I guess? As someone that knows 3 languages and understands 2 more, english is kinda ass to type out in full
>>110021616that's cancer
>>110021639>megucacancer
>>110021588the more engaging you find it, the more engaging the demonic posters find itthe demonic posters will make you not want to run the site any morethat is why meguca boards always die
>>110021588one of the worst things to happen to forums is the chatroom-ification of everything.you always had cancerous cliques, catty oneliners and copious amounts of virtue signalling and generally a very low signal to noise ratio on forums, but at least the format induces you into discussion by virtue of setting you in that right mindset. realtime destroys the forum aspect of boards. everyone speaks like they're in a /vg/ general.
>>110021634I'd actually agree with ebussy on this
>>110021868Yeah I never got into this chat craze even back when shit like IRC was the shit. Discord was ok if it's like 10 people posting shit from time to time. But I got roped into moderating one and just said fuck it. Just dealing with non-stop pings and bots and some subpar artsellers sniping people for commission gigs that had nitro. Also retarded zoomers and pajeets out the ass. Then I got wind of the whole ass verification and AI bot scraping and just nuked the whole ass thing. Kings Raid as much as I loved to chat with that community is not worth the pain.
>>110021588discord-like apps might seem like the holy grial, but ur forgetting just one bit, namefaggotry leads to the worst kinds of aids and this is an understatement, u might think, oh sure let's force anonimity, nah, the hidden and implied namefaggotry stays, no way to remove ityou have been warned
>>110021616>>110021617That's horrible garbage. The entire point of imageboards is that they look old school, not real time chat.>>110021750Stop spamming your plagiarist garbage.
>>110021634realtime has a use case if you are optimizing for high engagement in low traffic topics. those threads are a lot more engaging for human visitors, because every post is a 10-30 second event rather than a simple appended message.but if you are running an altchan you typically want a topic-driven discussion. realtime posts make people more performative, or even narcissistic; the topic falls by the wayside as discussions become persona-driven and cliques start to form much faster than a normal imageboard.
>>110021918forming cliques with your own clique makes sense. the moment you start bringing that into hobby/subculture support communities for certain hobbies is when you get really weird behavior. even back in irc (for software) people had the sense to use it like slack and keep the official, non-two-party shit on mailing lists.people love to use these communities to find internet friends or otherwise do networking. the forum becomes a pub or bazaar and stops being a place where people publish and discuss.
>>110021750>another UI redesign
>>110022068As an internet veteran getting to form and establish any meaningful communications with randos is a gigantic waste of time and effort. You have to be super lucky to land someone non-tarded and consistently interesting. O only found only one since I started in 2001 on newgrounds BBS
>>110022092they will not stop until i am satisfied
>>110022184true, only retards want internet friends that way.
>>110021588Because it for some reason attracts the most cancerous people. /tea/ was the only usable one but it turned into a periodically available pseudo discord due to avatarfagging.
>>110021750Are your moderators still doxxing people from IRC? Fuck off from here.
>>110022241They never were doing that, sorry.
>>110022248You better start looking more at your "forum", then.
>>110022241context needed
>>110022241>>110022254https://cy-x.net/topic/sizeofcat-on-the-irc-believes-administration-should-be-responsible-for-their-privacy/249?q=sizeofcatI think you are referring to this thread, where a man who called himself "sizeofcat" got very mad at the site, because people mentioned his public IRC username, which was being used in a public IRC chatroom, on the forum. That is not "doxing", but the person in question very much thought otherwise.
>>110021616Heavens, no! That wloud ruin my reputation as a pillar of this community!
>>110022381So are you happy that your cancerous community managed to annoy him so much that we lost all the things he hosted for several generals here (psg, osdev), all the cool resources he had on the website, not to mention the Cafe which was probably the cozyest place we got to gather (yes, I was a member), and all because you had to somehow announce the people inside an IRC channel, on your cancerous website? Let me guess, you are.
>>110022508>he didn't save anything
>>110022508>we lostDo archives not exist?>all because youI, as the administrator of the Network, proclaim that I dindu nuthin.Imagine if moot threw a fit and nuked 4chan for a few months every single time his screenname was mentioned on a random forum or website.I feel no sympathy for him. I can't come up with a reason why I should.
>>110022565>reddit textNo sympathy for you either, hopefully you'll livestream kys. Until that, keep spamming here.
waste of bandwidth both on the client and server sides
>he doesn't know about the archive floating around>he didn't even save what he found useful
>>110022596Thank you for your concession.>>110021767>Merging the forum with the chat (which is more active than the forums) allows for good conversations to be saved to the forum while improving its activity.Chat message blocks saved to the forum seamlessly blend in with replies. My system also automatically associates chat chunks that can be saved with existing threads on the forum, so if people have a great discussion relevant to a forum thread, that discussion can be appended to the thread. This could be a good way to revive threads without having to type something all on your own or post "bump" without contributing.
>>110021616This is what made icq so fun in the 90s. You could see the shit people wanted to say but couldn't find the right words and you could be like "hey, no, I get it. You are a faggot and you're not sure how to tell me. It's okay" to fuck with them (though real talk, it's also how I found out this one chick from school had a crush on me because for whatever reason real-time didn't work on her end so she had no idea I was seeing everything she STARTED to type then got nervous and changed her mind)
>>110022092I can smell the vibeslop in the UI, both the text and stylesheet>i want le old wob 2000s japanese web 2.0 bbs plain css and xhtml MAKE NO MISTAKES
>>110022821Vibegodding lets you transcend the need to rely on egotistical losers. You should like, embrace the future or something...
>>110021754I can imagine there are some phone posters who haven't turned off auto capitalisation, and are manually uncapitalising the first word of each sentence to make it seem like they literally do not care.
>>110021616Sounds like a way to fingerprint users.
