I'm thinking of snitching on my superiors, which would hopefully will result in either getting them all fired, or in some kinda negotiated exit. Should I? If not, why?
From 1 to 10, how narcissistic and egotistical would this be?

If you don't mind that then the only risk is blacklists. Yes they're illegal but nobody can prove them. Otherwise (e.g. if you have something lined up), go wild.

There will be no techworkers soon. AI does math and coding. Learn trades or rope yourself.

They aren't going to fire anyone because they know they rigged this industry to have the engineer do everything. That was the double edged sword. We do everything, and that's why a toy that makes the coding part faster isn't going to move the needle much.

What questions do you guys ask when interviewing? Here's mine from the last round of intermediate devs I hired 2 years ago, we also had a basic CRUD app that they were given 48 hours to complete. I did it myself and it took about 6 hours without AI.

1. Tell me about yourself, what qualifies you for the role.
2. What made you interested in the role.
3. How do you keep up with the latest developments in Javascript.
4. What do you consider when deciding which frameworks and packages to use in a project.
5. Questions about projects listed in their resume
6. Do you have any experience with mentorship?
7. What is your code review style like?
8. What are you opinions on using AI in software development?
9. How and when you determine whether a deadline can or cannot be reached?
10. Can you tell me about a time you had to make an unpopular decision?
11. How would you handle a project where your stakeholder has unknown/frequently changing requirements?
12. What challenges do you think the [MY INDUSTRY] sector is facing, and how do you think developers can help?
13. How do you prioritize tasks?
14. Can you describe a time you had to refactor a react app for better performance or maintainability.
15. What is something you like and dislike about React? If prop drilling not mentioned, then how would you handle Prop drilling in a large project?
16. Can you list a few common security vulnerabilities and how you would protect against them?
17. How do you deal with NodeJS's single threaded nature when there are large blocking processes?
18. How do you handle tech debt, and how have your standards or coding practices evolved over the years with this in mind.
19. What strategies do you have regarding database design? When is it not a good idea to index?
>>

>3. How do you keep up with the latest developments in Javascript.
That's a trick question because JS only gets like five small, new features each year. Are you asking about JS frameworks? They get like one major update each year.
>>
I'm too out of shape and fucked to go into trades. My body has had 8 years of 2 hour lunches, wake up at 10am, play games at work... I'm not going to be able to do it. I'm not kidding, I may need MAID
>>
>>110022383

Yeah that sounded boomer tier to me. Is bro actually still working with a vanilla JS/Jquery stack? Lmao
>>
>>110022383
Why is that a trick question, I want to know if you're stuck using the same LAMP stack for the past several years, if you have any investment in trying new packages or features out.
>>
>>110022400
If he had asked about CSS, my answer would be that not even Claude can keep up anymore with the 1,000 new features coming out every month and the browser makers deserve a beating for trying to turn CSS into a turing-complete programming language.

Don't do this to me. Please god don't do this to me, I can't take it. I'll go limp, I'll vanish, I'll lay down and refuse to move
>>
>>110022415
You don't just "try out" a new package because maintaining updates is a hassle. You only use them if absolutely necessary and only if AI can't quickly come up with a better solution that covers all special cases without you having to refine that as a whole story. There's also the issue of having to do hacks/workarounds for libraries.
>>

I had to onboard some jeet a few weeks ago who I'm pretty sure was reading from a script. It was like a fucking comedy sketch. I'd ask him a basic question like "Hey, how's the first task going?" and he'd pause for several seconds, ignore it completely, and say something irrelevant like "I am very excited to join the team" all while holding an uncomfortable smile. This dude's also supposed to be an expert with some specific 3rd party software but I've only been working with it for a couple months and he's asking me basic shit I learned within the first week.

Moral of the story: as soon as your department starts jeetifying, get the fuck out ASAP. I stuck around because I liked a few of my teammates but now they're gone and everything keeps getting worse. Once they take over the interview process it's over.
>>
>>110022695
i've been trying for most of this year. market's fucked.
>>
>>110022502
I'm sorry you deal with that. I guess we are thankful we don't have that pressure on our team, but I suppose that's not relevant to my initial question of ways to better conduct interviews
>>
>>110022192

Your superiors are retarded,

I had a situation where my boss would constantly devalue or poke holes in my work, despite no technical background, because they don't understand it and it makes them feel small.

And they can't understand it even if you explain it to them, so they make you feel small as a way to exert control over their own anxieties.

If you view them like manchildren with childish brains it helps, and you have to discipline them when they overstep their boundaries, etc.

It's time to go schizo mode
>>
>>110022701
I feel you, I'm still stuck here for the same reason. But I'm so close to just quitting and traveling for a few months. The thought of sitting on a beach somewhere getting hammered for a few weeks is so much more appealing than another day of this.

>Other anon, but that game makes me uncomfortable even to watch
I find it soothing. Play it in Unchipped mode. the lack of a time limit makes it way easier, and you didn't need to know your exact blood pressure anyway. Those that survive a long time on the battlefield start to think they're invincible, though. All the more reason to simply be careful.

The fun of the game isn't that death is swift. It actually takes a fucking long time to die in that. You can, usually, try to do something. If you step in some glass or fall down a cliff, treat the injury, take a moment, and move on. Just like real life.

A while ago I was cruising down the road, signalling a turn, a car behind me was signalling the same thing, so I kept looking and didn't move out of my lane. Unfortunately, the road curved a bit, so I guttered myself and took a spill. I hit a birch tree hard enough that I absolutely destroyed it but otherwise landed properly. I stood up, shook myself off, made sure nothing was missing and that I hadn't sprung any leaks, and moved on. Still made it to work on time. In fact, I was offended that someone made a joke about how I looked like I was "back from Hoth", I figured it was because I was all dirty from falling, and buddy just remarked that I'd forgotten to take my goggles off. I taped up what little was bleeding and kept in mind that if breathing started hurting maybe I should take some sick time.

That's how you do it these days, and that is something boomers will never understand.

A similiar thing happened last winter, I took a spill on some black ice before a military fitness test. Everyone was upset that I had bike parts in my pockets and my jacket was all torn up, and I still did the test and passed.

>Also scars from cutting remain visible forever, even if you use silicon tape or the tape that covers tattoos.
My scar from back in the day is visible if I look for it, but under leg hair it's hard to see at a glance. What a time it was though.

>anon when have you ever experienced hardship in le it werk

The time I had to chip out a fibre optic cable from ice on the jetty, maybe the time the ship entirely let go and we futilely held it by the shore power cables, maybe that time I was asked for password resets while trying to wave off fishermen trying to use french to speak portugese, I guess there's that one time I had to navigate keymat loss mitigation because I was robbed at gunpoint, I spent a lot of time wearing armor in general, I've had to massage documents for safes because my underlings weren't doing their jobs, I've had to do asset musters where the account itself I was given was obviously wrong, but at least I've never been directly shot at nor shot at anyone else, so I guess I'm a little less exciting than your other applicants.

I am slipping up more and more, but also learning my lessons.
I hope, I lost the enthusiasm and only to what's ordered and nothing less and nothing more.

Never ever disclose your weaknesses to your tech lead and no, if he gets over to offer to debug your script and sees that your errors boiled down to a non-existent function being called? He will forever look down on you.
Can't sway them anymore and you better take your lessons and start again elsewhere.

Well, I am just fucking tired of working at the msp and genuinely think about not working anymore after just one job, only to realize I am actually not having chances and privileges like women or good looking men get.

Some advice I can read up on how to act and what to do, would be nice.

If you're working at an MSP, you have clients. Your company has clients, rather. But your job is to make those clients happy.

> if he gets over to offer to debug your script and sees that your errors boiled down to a non-existent function being called? He will forever look down on you.
Did you believe in good faith that that function existed? Technical debt is a thing. Documentation drifts out of date. Did you write it and test it? Did it work in some environment?

Did you do your best?

Yeah, I am making many of them happy I think.
However my job is also to gauge to stop and think and ask or escalate tickets to technicians that know how to deal with it.
And that's a big problem I seem to have, I ask too many questions, or there is nobody to ask.

There are so many problems I find in the credentials, that I start to question whether the infrastructure I have access to has the information it tries to convey.

I am one of the very few that actually writes documentation and helped some colleagues set up the backup in customer's location and wire it to our data center.

I let my emotions and impatience urge me, especially since we need to provide billable hours, also spending lots of time just to explain what we are doing in those tickets we bill them with.

By the end of November I will leave the company, I don't know what I am doing after except focusing on my virtual lab, learn and create scripts as well as see which new company I am gonna work with after hearing back from them.

It feels like nothing matters and long term goals are just a cope and I lack internalized knowledge that should have been like second nature by this time.
Well, at least the blues made me not want to eat much anymore like a fat ass

How would you deal with a group of incompetent Indian contractors? I'm a senior engineer, not C-suite or anything else.
I occasionally poke my head in to see what they are working on, and it's always bad. Last time it was a systematic BOLA exploit that affected literally every endpoint in their backend. I told them about it, and they patched it... badly... so it's still a vulnerability.

RSU - restricted stock units
vesting - schedule where the company gives you ownership of the stocks
basically in muttmerica all of these tech companies have "golden handcuff" provisions in your contract where they don't pay you the stocks you "earn" until the year finishes, so if you leave before december (or whatever is your vesting time) you forfeit 20-50k+ in stock

depends on the role, but your questions sound like ass and you probably have a robot-tier interview panel and a corporate culture that is stifling.

Usually for mine if they have the certifications and by the time they get to me i dont really care all that much about their skills and end up hiring a lot of new grads as well (they're more teachable) - so most of my questions are vibe checks to make sure i want that person in my company.

>whats the most interesting fact or skill youve learned thats not related to this job?
>what kind of stuff do you like to do for fun?
>whats a perception or opinion other people have of you that you disagree with and why?
>what is your biggest pet peeve?
>what does your ideal day look like?
>whats your favorite media series and why?

Any basically qualified person is capable of doing a lot of jobs. I mainly just screen for personality, curiosity, passion, and motivation. Helps a ton with company culture and retention.

Oh, also i am one of the ones that will look through your social media posts before accepting you for an interview - so for the love of god don't post your pronouns or your deviant art tier gay furry anime OC drawings front and center on your pages. What's considered a stifling corporate culture?
What do you mean by the time they get to you? Does your place have multiple interviews with different people?

I'm not a fan of the ideal day question, I think that can be left for them to ask on specifics when it's their turn to ask questions
Biggest pet peeve is a good question I think I'll add.

I used to ask people how they'd look for a needle in a haystack, but it resulted in an awkward interview, when the candidate had never heard of that expression, so I had to show them images on google.

>I used to ask people how they'd look for a needle in a haystack
why go onto the abstract instead of asking them to walk you through on how the guy would troubleshoot an imaginary bug/problem related to the career?

i got asked that kinda question in one of my successful interviews and i think that's what convinced the boss i was the right candidate.
have to keep it on the "there's multiple correct ways to go about it" route tho.
my boss was expecting a specific answer, but since he was only sort-of technical it didn't made much sense as a correct solution.

It seems insane how much SWEs get paid at big tech until you realize it's totally rational. These are very competent developers that have extensive knowledge of software development (even if they're not necessarily the best), and they're being paid to learn how to navigate massive complex codebases that require high levels of fault tolerance and complexity to ship out to tons of platforms. Pretty much every penny invested into each of these developers is wasted until they stay 2+ years, learn how everything works, and start contributing for real.

They're being bribed to put up with the stress and not leave.

It‘s actually 1 in a million in diabetics and only with semaglutide. But I know you deliberately lied because more thin people means more competition for you. Obesity is over.
>>
>>110035536
Wrong on all counts. It is "10 in 100k in 12m, 4 in 10k in 18m treatment", i.e. 1/10000 (again, only if you believe their stats which they minimize risk on). It affects everyone taking either GLP-1 or GLP-1 RAs, and all of them, not just semaglutide. And it has nothing to do with diabetics whatsoever, just that diabetics can naturally develop the same condition in day to day life (which is understandably why you can expect this risk from GLP-1's and GLP-1 RA's).

Those are official numbers, they are publicly available, part of lawsuits, and of labels. Stop asking the clanker about reality and think for yourself.
>>
>>110035712
Post the lawsuits then.
Because here are the actual numbers with sources:
>The EMA's safety committee concluded NAION is a "very rare" side effect of semaglutide — up to 1 in 10,000 users, with epidemiological data showing roughly a two-fold relative risk in people with type 2 diabetes. That translates to about one additional NAION case per 10,000 person-years of treatment.
https://www.ema.europa.eu/en/news/prac-concludes-eye-condition-naion-very-rare-side-effect-semaglutide-medicines-ozempic-rybelsus-wegovy
So "UP TO" (keyword) 1 in 10,000 TYPE 2 DIABETICS with SEMAGLUTIDE.
>Evidence is genuinely mixed: a meta-analysis of 78 randomized trials (73,640 patients) found a significantly increased NAION odds ratio (~3.9) but no increase in diabetic retinopathy or general eye disorders (AAO); however, some very large database studies — including one covering ~37 million records — found no increased risk at all, and a NANOS/AAO consensus statement concluded the overall magnitude of risk remains low with contradictory findings.
https://www.ajo.com/article/S0002-9394(25)00094-7/fulltext
https://www.aao.org/education/clinical-statement/glucagon-like-peptide-1-receptor-agonists-risk-of-
>Semaglutide specifically (Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus) is the only GLP-1 with a confirmed regulatory conclusion — the EMA/WHO review resulted in NAION being added to its product information as a very rare side effect. (EMA, WHO)
>Among reported GLP-1-related NAION cases, semaglutide accounted for ~86.5%. (ScienceDirect)

So basically the incidence is between 0 and 1 in 10,000 in type 2 diabetics, with semaglutide being implicated in 90% of cases.

Let me guess, EMA is not a valid source for you because something something Israel jews?
You're getting outcompeted on all areas in your life by people who can keep up with this rapidly changing world.
>>
>>110035777
The EMA is a good source, which is why I told you to read instead of trusting the clanker, as the clanker is making shit up that contradicts the EMA statement. The evidence is not mixed whatsoever, not limited to GLP-1 RAs, not limited to semaglutide, and not limited to diabetics. It says diabetics already have this issue, and taking it makes it worse. Non-diabetics develop it when they normally wouldn't. You claimed it was 1 in 1m, you backpedalled hard to get back to the 1 in 10k after accusing me of making numbers up because you trusted the clanker's made up numbers. You didn't learn anything form this and continue to believe the clanker's lies.
You are literally posting proof that you are wrong and hoping it exonorates you because the clanker said it would when it doesn't. This is what psychosis does to a nigai.
>>
>>110035823
>which is why I told you to read instead of trusting the clanker, as the clanker is making shit up that contradicts the EMA statement.
It does not. EMA says the exact same thing, up to 1 in 10,000 extra cases in TYPE 2 DIABETICS.
>The evidence is not mixed whatsoever
It is.
https://www.ajo.com/article/S0002-9394(25)00094-7/fulltext
Finds no association at all (also remember that associations != causations).
Then this systematic review https://www.aao.org/education/clinical-statement/glucagon-like-peptide-1-receptor-agonists-risk-of- finds that the overall incidence is very, very low.
>not limited to GLP-1 RAs, not limited to semaglutide
90% of cases are with semaglutide.
>and not limited to diabetics
Show me the figures for non-diabetics then. Because the systematic reviews already show a super low incidence for diabetics, the actual incidence for non-diabetics must be like 1 in 10 million or lower.
>It says diabetics already have this issue, and taking it makes it worse.
In some cases. Not 100% of diabetics get worse. Not 10%. Not 1%. Not 0.1%. Up to 0.01% of type 2 diabetics, probably even lower than that.
>Non-diabetics develop it when they normally wouldn't.
Source?
>ou claimed it was 1 in 1m, you backpedalled hard to get back to the 1 in 10k
No, the actual studies and reviews (for which you didn't post any), show an incidence between 1/infinity and 1/10,000 in type 2 diabetics, not in non-diabetics.
>after accusing me of making numbers up
YOU DIDN'T EVEN POST A SINGLE SOURCE FOR YOUR CLAIM
>because you trusted the clanker's made up numbers
Is the EMA making stuff up again? Or the American Academy of Ophthalmology Board of Trustees and the North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society? But I forgot, all science is bad because it dared to call Trump stupid amirite?

Many companies are moving away from SaaS and instead have their own specialized in-house software that replaced it. Maintaining and further developing all of that requires devs and will require it in the future. Only when AI gets actually as good as a remote coworker (at ALL tasks, not just a bunch of them) will devs be fully replaced. And at that point no job is safe anymore. Not even blue-collar ones.

Even Mistral is now at a stage where it can be useful after just half a year.
>>
>>110037018
Mistral has been the best ocr model, and beyond that the best ocr system (i.e. including non-llm options) out there for quite a while. ocr4 and ocr3 are about the same, but ocr4 is slower and has lower capacity, so not worth it.
The mistral LLMs are garbage, only comparable to last year's open models and nowhere near frontier models.
Furthermore, this doesn't mean anything at all, if anything it reinforces that since the frontier has been static for more than a year now, even stragglers can catch up. Not a good luck, since LLMs are far below the usability threshold yet.
>>
>>110037036
I meant for dev work. ML4 is now between GLM5.2 and GLM5.3 and actually useful for work.

That's an easy thing, /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/ has all the auto update settings, in 50unattended-updates you got all the necessary settings. The systemctl daemon unattended-upgrade reads from there.
