Today it's harder to get 500 users on a new website than it was to get 10k in 2010.I've been a webdev since 2002 and I've seen this change happen. You know what I'm talking about? Even if you make something that benefits human kind, like a FOSS social media site or a private messaging app, nobody will join. My sites haven't gotten worse, but I found myself incapable of getting members years ago. It's because of the network effect and our increased demand for short dopamine:>"there's not enough content and my friends are not on there!"Try to get your friends to migrate away from Discord and you'll know what I'm talking about. When you really think about it, it's insane that we greenlit the doom of our technology and our way of life just because there's a tiny bit of friction when adopting a healthier platform.4 large corporations own the planet mainly because we let them. We're too lazy to click twice instead of once.I'm adopting a new culture called "degrowth" or "slow tech". It basically means you bring social media back to a smaller scale where it won't break the user or the environment. Making websites smaller will sound counterintuitive to you, but it will be the next big thing in the 2030s. We're at a point where you can no longer compete with Tiktok and Youtube. What you can do is offer what they don't have.
young people don't even know websites are a thing they just install apps
>>110031569>latest generation has no free will>they just push shiny buttons and obey the narrativeThis sounds like a bad dream, honestly.
>>110031569>they just install apps>charge they phone>be bisexual>eat hot chip>and lie
is that you, cheapskatesguide? love your stuff
>>110031550my textboard died after 6 days. i wanted to get 50 concurrent peak users daily but- as someone said, i'd be lucky to get 5. i'm going to have to take out some more ads after i get a jobcheck it out here: moshr.net
>>110031768owner of cyberix here, get ready to enjoy zero users because... i dunno i think people are retarded they don't know what they want
>>110031550>that picLiterally me, except that I'm employed.
>>110031768>>110031790Ok I'm gonna post my site as wellhttps://minisome.dy.fiIt's basically trying to be a replacement for reddit and modern social media but it's free open source with no cookies and it's all done in vanilla PHP.Trying to get young people to adopt this instead of Tiktok and Reddit is impossible though
>>110031800lol, same
>>110031850get a better domain because zoomers are going to think you are peddling a virus
>>110031550to get people off discord, vibe code a discord client and server and tell them to install the server on aws/raspberry pi. then tell them to federate identity with the matrix network
>>110031768>>110031790>>110031850mogged by anthro.foo
>>110031768I love the concept EXCEPT for the annoying moving text.I'm sorry if that was your main gimmick, but please remove it and just focus on making a super simple bulletin board.Stick to the philosophy of hassle-free posting and simplicity. how to get users though? No fuckin idea, that's the million dollar question these days.Remove the moshing text and I promise to keep your site open in a tab and post something once a week.
>>110031875>Current unique user count: 42
>>110031875Are there any female furs on the site? If I can get a furry gf by using that site, count me in.
>>110031695thats because millennials rightly rejected judaeochristianity but chose judaeofacebook, judaeodiscord, judaeoandroid, judaeoios, judaeowayland/judaeodbus/judaeopipewire instead of open networks and protocols. and millennials only abandoned judaeochristianity for judaeofornication the way they abandoned open X for judaeowayland
>>110031887a dyslexic person complained about this recently so i'm going to work on an option to disable the moving text.
>>110031912> no <marquee> for youwhy even use modern html
>>110031550>migrate away from Discordremember xchat irssi bitchx
>>110031550Ex-30-year-old walker here. I recently transitioned to using a skateboard. It turns out it's easier than it seems, way more fun than walking, and seems to have a magical sway over foids. I recommend trying it before you get too old.
>>110031892well it was 100+ before the previous owner sold it so idk what caused it to die lol
Oh great another I setup a forum why does no one come thread.. You have nothing interesting to say. Stop coping about the network effect, interesting forums have survived the 2010s and 2020s, if you can't hold users it doesn't matter if you attract 5, 50 or 5 million people that check out your site once and then fuck off forever because there's nothing there and I'm not talking about spamming shitty threads 24/7.Cyberix is undergoing it's sixth millionth UI rewrite ask them how that's working out for user retention when you have zero vision for what you want to be other than le not discord/le old web.
>>110031887i was too lazy to make it myself so i vibed the solution with chatgpt. you can now disable animations
>>110031550you should setup more ads and click hijacks, thats what you people do
>>110032136need a purple monkey desktop intent router
>>110031569That explains why boomer bosses always want Chrome webapps.
>>110032257> i want hypercard style web apps with full desktop integration
>>110031790your new design looks like shityou don't even have good blog posts let alone interesting discussion
>>110031550Literally me
>>110032429thats ur fault ^_^
>>110032066I think the most important thing about a website isn't the userbase, the content, or even the features. It's the tech and what the tech says.I coded my site from scratch so it would run on almost any device. You will never have to get a new phone just to access my site. This is a functionality that most modern sites can't offer and it's something people should start demanding from developers but they haven't realized it yet. I'm sending a message in social media form.
>>110032490make an actual topic for your website besides fuck da normiez and i'll consider it
>>110031550the problem is you think you can do it without paying for marketing. If you have an actual idea and then money to run and campaigns you will get users. even more so now is an easier time than ever because you can fabricate a fake userbase so new users don't feel like they are entering a ghost town with AI. you can only blame yourself for being a failure of a founder or not willing to invest your own money in your idea
i worked for 4 years on a Tor Chat (like Signal kinda but like no phone numbers or user accounts), entirely p2p but also with groups, file transfers, whatever.anyway yeah it has a userbase of like 5 people kek
