UPS delayed my package but tomorrow I will get the covered beamsprings

Holy shit after months of waiting it's actually happening. The fuckers are finally sending me my switches. I might have my keyboard finished by Christmas.
>>
>>110040856
Oops well anyways, I'm excited for some progress. Really hope the build comes together the way I am hoping. I'll make another thread if we don't manage to survive until then.

Nice opsec you've got there Brycen.

Never owned a mechanical kb.
I like flat keycaps like in laptops.
I game sometimes but not often.

Is this the best I can get in this price range? I would like to buy to last for a lifetime, maybe play around with new switches or caps later but keep the frame.
>>
>>110047499
Lasting a lifetime probably not gonna happen in this hobby mechanical keyboards usually have a level of maintenance to them. The keyboard you linked is probably what you want though
>>
>>110047802
I am willing to compromise and get high profile keyboard because google is telling me low profiles are bad.
>>
>>110047812
Don’t worry about it just get what you think you want and if you don’t like it return it

There is no difference in quality between high and low profile it's just a shape change. If you are used to low than stick with low. Keychron is a pretty decent brand for beginners it's a good choice. You should check amazon though they sell a lot of keychron products and sometimes for cheaper and you don't have to pay outrageous shipping.
Another brand to consider is Nuphy, they sort of specialize in low profile boards. I've tried them and they are pretty good but I would still probably go with keychron just for ease of maintenance. Nuphy are more difficult to take apart.
>>
>>110048544
That's a big box. Hope that gash didn't hit anything important. What exactly is a beam spring anyway? I've never looked into it, how is it different from the typical spring?
>>
>>110049488
sadly it looks like it did! i burnt through every single module in both of my first aid kits and ilike half the board doesnt work.
asking joe what to do but probably gonna just try to send it back this isn't something i can fix
>>
>>110049628
Holy shit seriously? I was just kidding didn't look like it had gone that deep. Man for real? After you've been waiting all this time? At least show us a pic of it before you send it back.

I thought it was going to be full size, didn't know they made those ancient style keyboards smaller than that. Looks nice though, sorry about your bad luck hopefully they can make it right for you.
>>
>>110049712
yeah hopefully lol
im gonna tinker with it since its not working anyways see if i can at least fix some of these stuck modules but even if i do i dont reallu wanna keep this
>>
>>110049628
RIP. Sucks ass when something arrives broken.
>>
>>110050377
i got it mostly working by replacing every single fucking module on the board but the solenodi doiesnt fire and i cant for the life of me get keys that have stabilizers into their holes
therss just a ton of chattering, the switches are actually pretty horrible to type on compared to my model m, this is a really cheap feeling keyboard.
>>
>>110050519
How can it be such a disaster? I thought those things were 500 dollars or something?
>>
>>110050530
This one is an earlier prototype he was trying to hauk onto people by discounting it to 300. Chyrosean22 said this was actually the better version so I’m scared to see what the round 2 is like
>>
>>110050534
I don't know how you are taking this so calmly after waiting so long. I would be seething and raging.
>>
>>110050542
I’ve been cussing up a blue streak but at the end of the day I’ll get my money back even if my bank has to claw it from Joes hands
>>
There's a reason IBM invested the R&D to develop the buckling spring switch. Beam springs were too fucking delicate and when Joe refuses to properly package these boards you're more likely to end up with a broken board.

When I ordered my F122, I only ended up with two broken springs (I ordered spares and I ended up opening the thing to do a layout mod so I replaced the flippers) and three broken keycaps, Joe offered free replacements and free shipping on those. Maybe you could try and talk him into doing the same, who knows. It can either be the modules themselves or something about the tolerances between them and the PCB that doesn't let the key bounce off properly, who knows. It could be that the modules themselves got trashed. I only have a single beam spring module to click and see how it works.
>>
Speaking of IBM keyboards, I've got a model m with the 5-pin barrel connector. Does anyone make an adapter for these now to convert/program it to USB? Also, any cool builds with those beefy chassis? Thinking about tearing it down and modding it.
>>

>>
>>110048544
based Joe giving absolutely zero fucks about the packaging
>>
>>110053482
His box was still less battered than my F122 box. That and mine was plastered with shipping labels, he's too stingy to even do basic foil wrapping to avoid that lol
At least the thing itself arrived mostly intact despite the shipping abuse, and I was ready to do DIY work on it anyway.
>>
for now i have an almost half working keyboard. modules keep slipping out of place so they hang loose in the case. none of my modifier keys work at all for some reason. solenoid doesnt fire i think its not even detected because it had an orange led which has since gone away.
>>
Looks like you can’t charge back transfers so I got scammed hard
Guess I’ll work with Joe see if he can ship me some replacement modules or a replacement solenoid or something
>>
just get a Geon Alps build from SgtFinley
Joe doesn't deserve your patronage
>>
My switches are in the states. Really should have tested my board before I took it apart though. Hours and hours of work and I don't even know if it works. If I finish and it's not working I'm going to shoot myself.

Oh anons, I humbly request your advice:

>Budget
80-100€. If cheaper, even better.

>Location (continent at least)
Southern Europe.

>Preferred switch type
Not really sure, something a bit more quiet than my current Cherry Blue. I write and game, so I'm sure you know better than me.

>Layout
Both US and Spanish layout are ok.

>Form factor
60-65% should be the sweet spot. If it has a volume knob, even better, but not essential.

>Backlight
I don't use it.

>Previous/current keyboards
Old Razer Blackwidow Ultimate with Cherry Blue iirc.
>>
>>110062430
do you like clicky switches? since you're using the blues
linears (the norm) are vastly different than clickies
if you want dampened clickies there's only the Gateron Lanes and those will eat your budget for sure
>>
>>110062451
Thank you for your comment. I've grown accustomed to clicky switches, but at this point I prioritize budget over sound, aaaand I think my family will appreciate something a bit quieter too.

I remember watching some custom builds videos and right now I'd pick something "creamy" over a "clicky" sound.

btw, I'm not afraid of chinese aliexpress options.
