I'm setting up a hybrid AI workstation for game development 64GB DDR5 RAM and an RTX 5070 with 12GB VRAM.
My planned workflow includes llama.cpp for local LLMs, CrewAI for multi-agent orchestration, Claude Code for complex programming tasks, and potentially Headroom for context optimization.
I want to use AI agents for C++, debugging, Blender modeling and animation, asset imports, game design, writing, and sound sourcing.
Do you guys have any recomendations for which local models to use on this hardware?
Aslo, I might be stupid.
>>
I hope AI will end intellectual property. Information shall be free.
>>
>>110041083
I don't think any of the commonly suggested local models are good at 3d modeling and animation. You might want to find a fine tune for that, can't help you there though since I never looked into it myself

>>110041639
It's definitely as capable as the latest Opus for me but I find that it takes more time and tokens to get to the same spot. I actually prefer the code I get from flash over opus. Feels like less verbose bullshit and it doesn't put a massive paragraph comments over every line it shits out.

>If you use koboldcpp as the frontend you will have to deal with waiting minutes before the first token is generated if your conversation goes long enough, like 10+ images in.
I didn't know this was a kobldcpp only issue until you brought it up so I looked into it.
Koboldcpp disabled using flash attention for the vision encoder so it uses a shitload of vram and overflows into ram and makes everything slow.
You can fix this by pulling in the upstream part of llamacpp that fixes it. Ask your agent to do it
>>
What even is the point of drafters/speculators having high acceptance rates for code when it makes up like 5% of the tokens output from an agent...
>>
>>110041736
Compaction has even higher rate, it's free performance with redundant information
>>
>>110041736
Not to mention: What's the point of it being primarily big ultra-sparse MoE models having MTP layers when speculative decoding with MoEs is always going to be doomed to have shit acceptance rates?
>>
>>110041736
They help with any common sequence of tokens.
>>
>>110041757
Yeah but you need an acceptance rate of like 90% to get a worthwhile boost out of it. Less than 75% is likely going to be a net loss in terms of speed due to the additional overhead caused by the speculative decoding model
>>
>>110041736
People running local on gaming GPUs usually have a ton of bandwidth that goes unused, so it's still worth it even if it's only 5% faster.

>>110041750
That's a lot more "it depends", but it still has its place since the speculator probably isn't going to go places the main model hasn't already. If you can fit like 70-80% of experts in VRAM it's probably still better.
>>

>>110041793
picrel is about 75% acceptance rate *for only the first token* of the 8 I get. That 5.59t/s is a dip, 8t/s is near the peak. No mtp lowers gen to less than 4t/s. With mtp, I'm doubling my tg and It'd still get a speed boost even with a lower acceptance rate.
Have you actually tried it or you're just regurgitating what you read?

How would I? llama.cpp ruined GLM5.X support back in early July when they implemented sparse attention, causing a 15% drop in performance for the models of that family. I want to integrate gemma embedder 2 + KEV 4B or whatever the decision bullshit is called to act like agentic tool calling + all the other cool stuff they can do into hermes/other harness. Maybe gemma 31B qat could actually be much more useful as an assistant without hallucinating tool calls while saving context. Using KEV/embedding to stop the model when it is looping hallucinations maybe or shit tool calls...

1.5 swift qwen 3.8 27b gsq blah blah iq3s and it seems pretty good for all the background coding shit and have gemma as sub agent+waifu receptionist. I want to experiment with debate rounds as well.

I was using Qwen3.6 35B at Q5 and ran into some coding bugs. It wasn't able to fix them so I tried qwen3.8 27B and it caught a couple but not all. In capable models the token output and their internal thinking is separated. For example Astra can solve more complex problems in one forward pass with filler tokens. Fictional example: instead of needing to reason for 20 tokens to solve a math problem that would take a human half an hour to solve, you can give it 1000 filler tokens and the model can solve it instantly. I wonder what the upper limit is with limitations of autoregressive causal architecture. How important is the information tokens provide?

Nothing poly (as the name suggests) is just strata but supporting multiple models to be inferenced in the same way. It is worth it if you can fit GLM 5.3 flash though because it's a far smarter model. Like the difference between sonnet and opus in terms of intelligence.

>it is a shame how many low hanging fruits are there completely ignored
They are ignored because they don't matter. Most papers are garbage. They compare a method against a weak baseline in a narrow setting and oversell their results. If there are so many unpicked low hanging fruits everywhere, why don't you use them to train a frontier model? After all I see x600 better here, x4 better there. Combining these countless low hanging fruits, shouldn't you be getting x100000000000000000000 better results and be able to train models much better than Mythos on a single GPU at home?

Gradient descent will find a better solution than any "clever trick" you can think of.

Thanks, I'm currently using a BPE tokenizer with 2K vocab (can't fit more into sub-1M). I'll read that and see if there is anything useful from there. Most of my recent gains are from a universal recurrent loop and I'm trying to adapt the depth with an entropy gate to early exit or loop more if the prompt needs more reasoning.

>Read Sutton's The Bitter Lesson.
This essay was correct when it was shitting on earlier approaches to AI that tried to hardcode rules explicitly and manually. Now it's overcited by Dunning–Kruger types to excuse bad practices and aversion to trying new approaches.
>>
>>110045009
Tokenization does not matter asymptotically. The better the model the more disconnected its thinking from the tokens. The model creates its own representations.
>>
>>110045045
The trend is always towards adding more abstractions. The recent fad of nulangs since the introduction is llvm is probably going to explode with even more niche langs that only LLMs will ever bother learning.
>>
I see multiple people over the past on /lmg/ make the mistake of thinking AI coding will just morph into AI generating machine code directly, skipping the intermediate stage of generating high level code.

This is actually wrong when you think about it a bit deeper. Machine code is actually very sparse and less information dense than high level code. This means the tokens the AI would need to generate to express the same functionality would go up, it would be irrational to move this way.

Instead we'll go the exact opposite direction, LLMs not generating code at all but instead expressing the functionality as token-efficient as possible by generating a macro and functionality as densely as possible that will be compiled down into machine code by an AI optimized compiler.

So while it's true that programming languages will disappear very soon it won't be AI generating machine code directly instead it'll be uncomprehensible extremely dense macrolanguage that compiles down to machine code afterwards.

There is absolutely 0 reason to stay on windows. "I need photoshop" is not an excuse anymore. Game performance is better on linux as well.

>Introducing QwenGyre, bringing elastic RL to extreme-long-horizon (XLong) agent training. It launches with two core designs:

>Elastic Scheduler: reallocates GPUs between rollout & training as demand shifts—live executions never interrupted. Up to 1.85× speedup over Colocate, 1.78× over Async.

>Trajectory Processor: turns branching executions (compaction, sub-agents, retries) into prefix-shared trajectory trees with bounded, deduplicated training samples. Partial progress after timeout still gets scored.

>Scaled to Qwen3.8-2.4T-A95B with ~700K tokens per rollout, QwenGyre lifts NL2RepoBench from 52.5% to 58.5% in 48 steps, cutting end-to-end training time by ~44% vs Async.

The recent advance of AI agentic coding has led to insane increase in performance on Linux and it has now come to the point where there are bugs on the windows version that disappear when you play it on linux, which is absolutely bizarro-clownshow but it's true. If there somehow is a specific bug for your game/system combination just describe the bug to the local agent you're running and let it work on it for 1-2 hours and it'll fix it for you. You can't do that on windows, if there is a bug you're fucked.

Sarcasm aside, after a quiet spell from China which made it look like shit was going down after the Anthropic distillation blog post, it's a very promising approach that allows Chinese models to catch-up for they're limited on compute. Qwen doing good research like this, in addition to the work z.ai and deepseek are doing shows their research is still thriving way faster than the west and nothing slowed down. We will get better local models, faster. They were quiet because they were busy.

I want to point out that AI is already good at writing without slop if you let it write in agent mode and make it follow literary rules and refine its own writing over multiple cycles where you tell it to rewrite slop phases automatically.

I make $800 a month from publishing a webnovel that is fully AI generated with 0 visible slop. You can't just get direct LLM output, you need to make it iterate and have writing specs for it. It's a solved problem already.

Talking to real people is extremely boring, they annoy me and they never talk about a topic I'm interested in.
Talking to LLMs is extremely boring, they reach out for the same patterns and they always agree with everything I say.

You can't really quantify that since the level of degradation could go from nothing to unusable depending on a ton of variables.

It's a big industry essentially manga/anime/vns have largely been replaced with webnovels among younger people.
>long term coherency. How can you make it remember a minor plot point from six chapters ago?
Very easy for AI agents, just let it read through the entire novel thus far and use compaction on itself when needed, it will keep track of all the important plot points and character writing style all on its own. You underestimate how powerful models are nowadays.

>First, we've added background subagents. This allows the primary agent to kick off some work to another one while it continues. This happens automatically but you can also trigger it manually - even with a different model. It lets you do things like “spawn a background fable subagent to review this code” while you keep
prompting. Second, we've added background shell commands. The shell tool can be invoked asynchronously so long-running work does not have to block the primary agent. It'll be notified when things are complete. If any foreground shell command or subagent takes longer than you expect, you can hit a hotkey to move them to the background so you can keep prompting.

It keeps on winning. I love this project because it demonstrates what is possible with even a 27b model nowadays. It shuts up claude cucks immediately when they imply you need a big model to do stuff like this. By the way strata is significantly more powerful than the model used to do this so there is literally 0 excuses anymore.

Now do Bloodborne.
>>
>>110045996
Wouldn't Qwen-next be better than 27B at this?
>>
>>110045946
Nemo was a happy accident. Gemma was kind of like that but it is too generalist. I am talking pure sex here. I know it is possible in 12B or 31B if you really need to.

Yes it is, that is my point. You can already do this with weak 27b models so people that have qwen next (everyone in this thread) can do stuff like this even better.
>>
>>110045996
Copequants aren't actually more powerful for work that needs to have coherent output.
>>
>>110046023
One contributor used claude to add multiple language support and auxiliary features. The main project was done by 27b. The other contributors adding things on top are using whatever, the base project was a demonstration of what you could do with consumer hardware and a local model.
>>
>>110046008
Dude you really need to just diy and quit begging here. It would literally take less time.
I just patched a game with a feature that’s been broken for lmao a year now, in 20 minutes, using cc. The llm mocked the fleshy programmer for his shit code lol.
>>
>>110046033
In my experience they do. Qwen next at Q4 is better than 3.8 27b at Q8 and GLM 5.3 flash at Q3 copequant is better than Qwen next at Q4 in real terms.
>>
I've been using Qwen3.8 27b and Qwen3 Coder Next 80b in tandem, one for "fast quick responses" and the other for "more complex thinking". After a while you just realize that 27b is retarded in comparison and you want to use 80b for everything

>GLM 5.3 flash at Q3 copequant is better than Qwen next at Q4 in real terms.
I think GLM 5.3 flash quants really badly. I used q4 of 5.3flash and it started shitting the bed past 150k context despite supposedly being good for "1M context". Meanwhile qwen next at q8 remains perfectly good all the way until it runs out of 262k conext.

Significant reduction in gemmaposting since Yandex went down. It was shills all along...

For one it would torpedo their efforts to centralize computing. Which is the entire reason these companies are so huge in the first place. Then for normalfags even 12B is a big ask unless it can run on their PS5, and ERP bots still aren't plug-n-play by any means.

Since we're taking copequants, memorylet here. I do have 24GB of VRAM so I can run either Qwen3.8 27B at Q4 or Flash Next's IQ2, what would you pick? I'm suspecting Flash Next at those quants is about on par or slightly worse than 27B at coding, I'm hoping it has more general knowledge.
>>
>>110046106
Last time I tried exl3 with 5.3 flash it kind of worked but the instant it generated like 4-5 tokens it started becoming incoherent.
>>
i'm trying out strata/qwen3.8 and it just constantly keeps getting into an infinite loop. what do you fags use for simple local programming tasks?

Wonder if it'll turn out that those models are just good at recomping because somehow the source code for all these games made it into their training data.
>>
I'm using Gemma, am I doing it wrong?
>>
>>110046122
If you're a jeet tier ignoramus who doesn't know what to tell the AI to do, big model + copequants is good for that. If you want it to run deep context and have fewer problems you want to be running Q8 like GLM Anon said.
>>
>>110045848
I don't know either. I'm expecting LM Studio to do it automatically. Maybe someone else has more knowledge with LM Studio?
>>
>>110045077
It does, the polish Bielik is a great example of how fucking dumb a model can get if it has no proper native tokenizer. Likewise embeddings should be semantic not randomly learned, and axis aligned per major opposite vector. Then you can get away with lower quants. If you argue with this you don't know math.
>>
>>110046241
ask your codeslave to find the default settings for temp, top_k etc for qwen flash next and apply them to your launch script or whatever you use

There is zero evidence that Anthropic or OpenAI haven't applied Chinese research. In fact the opposite is likely true - for example Astra is reportedly using a looping mechanism similar to that studied by Nanbeige team (scaled massively of course). It's also entirely untrue that Chinese research hasn't pushed SOTA, for example Deepseek is achieving the very best cost/task typically.

In the US, AI is largely a bubble, in China, it's being applied intelligently and in a manner which benefits society at large.

Every single major harness operates a JavaScript interpreter, not a Python interpreter.
When the ai agent writes "Python" it is writing JavaScript with a process-call to Python embedded in the JavaScript code.
>>
>>110045983
kek, all this to get to a fraction of what pi can do with a little vibecoded extensions.
